She might only be 13, but Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown knows a thing or two about trendsetting.

At the recent Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards, the teenager opted to wear her brunette hair in “space buns”, with black ribbons wrapped around them.

Hair bows are going to be one of the biggest trends of 2018, and we spoke to some of the U.K.’s top hairstylists for their tips on how to properly embrace this look.

“Millie gave her space buns a very girly, pretty touch by adding black satin bows,” Mathew Watt, Owner and Director of Mathew Watt Hair & Nail Bar, told us. “Bows are one of this year’s biggest hair accessories and have been seen all over the red carpet, with celebrities incorporating them into many different looks from ponytails to buns and half up half down hairstyles.”

Whether you opt for a ribbon, velvet or leather bow, these hair accessories are the perfect finishing touch for any look. To emulate Millie’s style, Mathew suggests using a comb to create the perfect middle parting, before separating the hair into two ponytails at each side of the head.

“Taking one ponytail at a time, twist the hair up, rolling it into a bun, and secure with a hair tie,” he added. “Once you have done this on each side, finish by adding two bows – created using ribbon – to the top of each of your buns. To keep the hair looking neat and tidy, as well as free from flyaways, use a finishing spray, serum or oil, which will also give the hair a gorgeous shine.”

Dean Jones, Owner of Dean Jones Hair, is also a fan of this trend but advises using coloured bows if you’re feeling a bit braver.
