Baja East co-founder and creative director John Targon has reportedly joined the Marc Jacobs team.
Editors at Business of Fashion report that the designer is going to the “creative director of contemporary” at Jacobs’ lower-priced category, starting from 2 February (18), with parent company Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton (LVMH) confirming his appointment but not Targon’s role within the business.
“We are happy to welcome John to our design team,” a spokesperson said.
Targon, who earned his fashion stripes at Celine, has not yet commented on his new role, but sources told Business of Fashion he’ll be bringing in his own team, which has supposedly led to lay-offs at Marc Jacobs.
He started ‘it label’ Baja East with Scott Studenberg in 2013, and it wasn’t long before stars like Lady Gaga, Hailee Steinfeld, and Demi Lovato were wearing their garments.
The design duo also recently featured as guest stars on the latest series of America’s Next Top Model.
Talking about how he likes to design for women of all ages, Targon previously told StyleCaster:
“Our base of customers is quite broad – we have everyone from working mothers in their 40s, 50s, and 60s to kids who are in college or just getting jobs who love fashion who are saving up to buy one of our sweatshirts or dresses. There is someone who wants a gator coat from us. There is someone who wants a floor-length cashmere parka – Gaga ordered four of them from us custom.”
