Tommy Hilfiger and Lewis Hamilton are gearing up to release their first capsule collection.
The Formula One driver was recently declared a global brand ambassador for the American luxury label, and now it’s been revealed Lewis will actually design for the brand, with the first Tommy x Hamilton collection scheduled to drop this fall (18).
The range will be revealed to fashion editors on 7 May.
Hamilton shared the first glimpse of the range’s logo to fans at an exclusive event in Shanghai on Wednesday (11Apr18), having put his own stamp on Tommy Hilfiger’s signature flag trademark by overlapping it with his initials in navy. An art installation explained the influences behind the design, which was inspired by street art as well as the font used in the racing champion’s own tattoos.
The British sports personality was announced as the brand’s latest ambassador shortly after he sat front row at the label’s Milan Fashion Week show, which saw a collection, the designer’s fourth and final with model Gigi Hadid, that merged Hilfiger’s love for fashion and motorsports on a racetrack-style runway.
And the iconic fashion designer was delighted to confirm his company’s collaboration with the star.
“Lewis is a global superstar and he’s not only one of the top athletes in the world, he’s also, in my eyes, a fashion icon. He is a student of fashion, he has a sense of style, and he puts himself together in a very cool way that’s very real,” said the 67-year-old during an interview with Lewis at Tommy Hilfiger’s London showroom. “His look is iconic. He has millions of fans all over the world, watching his every move. He has young fans, young men who want to look like him, who want to dress like him. They actually want to emulate him.”
