Beyonce aimed to imitate a goddess when she put together her Coachella outfits.
The 36-year-old superstar took to the stage at the Californian festival for the second time on Saturday (21Apr18), a week after delivering her first headline performance – which has been hailed as one of the most groundbreaking sets the event has ever seen – and ensured she looked the part.
Beyonce’s enviable wardrobe was designed by Balmain creative director Olivier Rousteing, who has insisted that the garments were the result of a “real collaboration” and carefully thought out.
“I wanted her to look like a goddess, so every detail had to feel timeless,” Rousteing explained in an interview with Dazed & Confused. “This is the outfit that people will remember from this generation, to the next ten generations; people will open books and see that outfit.”
Beyonce’s Egyptian-inspired outfit perfectly exemplified the concept, and the detail in the design meant that it took a whole two months to complete.
“The idea for the Egyptian outfit was the moment where she wanted to bring out the goddess, something epic,” the French fashion designer smiled. “I love the fact she mixed so many different cultures in the performances. It felt like there was a feeling of opening with something really iconic, almost coming from the sky and after you see different evolutions during the performances.”
Rousteing claimed that after eight years working at the Paris-based label, teaming up with the music legend provided him with “one of (my) most unforgettable memories.”
