Jason Momoa has thrown his support behind a new Justice League T-shirt designed by the movie’s co-director Zack Snyder to raise awareness about suicide prevention.
The filmmaker had to step away from the 2017 DC Comics blockbuster following the suicide of his daughter Autumn in March (17), with Avengers director Joss Whedon stepping in to help complete the picture.
Fans subsequently decided to launch a crowdfunding campaign to create a special T-shirt to boost donations to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention in memory of Autumn, and Snyder showed his gratitude by offering up a superhero-themed black-and-white design for the top, which features symbols representing of each member of the Justice League, including Batman, Aquaman, Wonder Woman, and Superman.
On the back is a quote from late mythology expert Joseph Campbell, which reads, “All the gods, all the heavents, all the hells are within you.”
Snyder recently shared the link to the campaign on Twitter, marking his first post in 10 months.
“My contribution to the fan-initiated fundraising t-shirt campaign,” he wrote. “All of the proceeds from this shirt going to American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.”
Over 2,200 people have so far pledged to buy the merchandise, handing over $30 (£23) or more towards the project, which had an initial goal of just $1,000 (£770), and has since raised more than $45,000 (£34,800) for charity.
Aquaman star Momoa has now given the campaign a big boost by promoting the T-shirt to his social media followers.
“I AM AQUAMAN because of Zack Snyder he is a legend in my eyes (sic),” Jason captioned an Instagram photo of the top. “He made a justice league T shirt. ALL THE GODS. to support suicide awareness and prevention. Honored to do my part to support my Ohana (family). I love u Zack and (wife and production partner) Debbie (sic).”
