Shanina Shaik has hit back after she was slammed by some of her followers for sharing a nude snap to mark International Women’s Day.

The 28-year-old model posted the sexy snap on Instagram to mark the occasion on Friday (08Mar19) and wrote alongside it: “Here’s to strong women. May we know them, may we be them, may we raise them. #internationalwomensday.”

However, many people were unimpressed with Shanina’s decision to shed her clothes for the image, with one writing: “Nothing like taking advantage of women’s day to promote yourself. Shame on you.”

Another commented: “Stripping doesn’t make you strong happy women’s day to all the women who know what real strength is.”

But the Victoria’s Secret beauty was quick to respond to the criticism, insisting: “This is simply capturing a beautiful image of a raw woman’s body. Where is stripping? And shouldn’t we uplift women on international women’s day?”

And in response to another person who suggested the image was too “sexual” for International Women’s Day, Shanina wrote: “I understand clothes or no clothes it’s nothing to harm or pushing in a sexual manner.”

Shanina was just one of hundreds of models worldwide who took to social media to celebrate the special day. Kate Upton posted a picture of herself breastfeeding four-month-old daughter Genevieve, who she shares with husband Justin Verlander, and wrote: “Will cherish these moments forever. can’t imagine a greater superpower! #internationalwomensday.”

Kate also shared a throwback picture from her pregnancy, alongside a quote she wants to teach Genevieve about.

“A world without sexism would be a world where hard work, merit and qualifications are put before gender. True partnerships would be present rather than the constrictions of traditional roles,” the quote read. “Instead of being put in a box, everyone is on an even playing field and therefore benefits. This is the world in which I want my daughter to thrive.”
