Rosario Dawson’s maintains her flawless complexion by drinking clay as part of her beauty routine.

The Sin City star swears by the unconventional self-care method, revealing it has boosted her health as well.

“I’ve been starting to drink clay lately,” Dawson told The Cut. “There’s really good, fine, food-grade clay that helps to clean out your system and rid you of parasites.”

The 39 year old also uses clay products as part of her face-wash and cleansing routine.

“I’m not a retinol and acids-type person; I can’t do all of that kind of stuff. It’s about finding the stuff that works for me,” she added.

And the women’s rights activist is thrilled that there have been changes to the perception of beauty in recent years, noting she supports the outcry against airbrushing celebrity photos.

“One thing that’s coming up quite often now, which I think is really great, is this push back on all of the photo airbrushing,” she told Glamour. “I’m going to be 40 this year. It makes sense that I’m going to have wrinkles.”

Dawson has experienced her share of airbrushing following magazine photoshoots and admits the decision to alter her looks left her feeling self conscious.

“They’ve airbrushed scars and stretchmarks and all kinds of things out over the years that make it look impossible,” she scolded. “I’m starting to look at photos, and I get body dysmorphia looking at my own pictures. Technically, I supposedly look like that, but I don’t. (I’ll look and think), ‘I don’t have that waist!’ It’s making it seem like something’s wrong with you.”

These days, she has learned that peace from within is one of the best beauty tools, and insists meditation helps her retain a stunning glow.

“Meditation, I think, is key,” she told the publication. “You’ll feel the impacts of it. They’ve done all the research around it to see how it affects your brain and development. It’s incredible. It’s recommended to do 20 minutes, twice a day.

“It sounds crazy to people. It’s amazing how much more time I feel like I have in a day when I do it, because I’m so focused that my body relaxes and lets me show up much better in the time that I do have. So it’s interesting that by taking some time off, I actually get to show up.”
