Bryce Dallas Howard is defying the fashion police by rewearing old outfits on the red carpets at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival.
The Jurassic World actress revealed her pledge to recycle looks on Instagram on Thursday (16May19), revealing the move was prompted by a personal fashion conflict.
“Hey online family, I’m in Cannes! You know what means (sic)… big time fancy schmancy dressing up!” she wrote in a caption attached to two images of herself wearing a vintage purple Ralph Lauren dress, yellow Manolo Blahnik pumps and orange Smoke x Mirrors sunglasses.
“I always feel conflicted when shopping for a press tour, because often these are clothes I will only wear once,” Bryce added. “In the past, since I’ve purchased rather than borrowed I realized ultimately this wasn’t an entirely sustainable practice.”
To address her guilt for only wearing an outfit once, the star, who is in Cannes with castmates Taron Egerton and Richard Madden to promote their upcoming Elton John biopic Rocketman, turned to online vintage clothing outlet The Real Real, which recycles luxury clothing on consignment.
“For several years now, I’ve relied on the @therealreal religiously to both buy and consign my own clothes. So for this @rocketmanmovie press tour, I challenged myself to exclusively dress in consigned and previously owned pieces,” she shared, noting her colourful outfit featured in the post was all purchased from the internet retailer. “This is my first look: the dress, shoes, and sunglasses are all from @therealreal.”
Bryce went on to wonder if she is the only person committed to dressing sustainably by swapping used and vintage clothes.
“I’m so curious, who of you out there buy or sell your clothes on consignment? Or vintage?” she quizzed her followers.
