Actress and activist Jameela Jamil has slammed pregnant Amber Rose for promoting a new diet tea for expectant mums.
The Good Place star, who has been vocal about her fight against celebrity-sponsored diet ads, took to Twitter on Wednesday to condemn the model for appearing in ads for the Flat Tummy Co. product Organic Pregnancy Tea.
“So many women, with such big platforms, promoting such irresponsible f**k, that it blows my mind,” Jamil wrote alongside a repost of Rose’s promotional ad.
Rose appeared to respond to the backlash and defended her decision by editing her original post, writing: “This is not a detox tea – it’s specially designed to help reduce occasional nausea and support digestion during pregnancy – haters stop riding the bandwagon and think for yourselves.”
Jamil has been on a mission to expose the harmful side effects of the product, which has also been promoted by Kim and Khloe Kardashian, and has circulated a petition to “stop celebrities promoting toxic diet products on social media”, which currently has over 242,000 signatures.
“I am not going to stop coming after all the people, men and women, who perpetuate this gross culture of forcing women to remain small and doll-like in order to be accepted by society,” she tweeted last year.
Jamil previously called out Khloe for being “irresponsible” for backing the Flat Tummy Co.’s shakes back in March.
“If you’re too irresponsible to: a) own up to the fact that you have a personal trainer, nutritionist, probably chef, and a surgeon to achieve your aesthetic, rather than this laxative product… And b) tell them the side effects of this NON-FDA (Food and Drug Administration) approved product, that most doctors are saying aren’t healthy… Then I guess I have to,” she wrote online.
She then listed “cramping, stomach pains, diarrhea and dehydration” among the symptoms those who try the shakes might experience.
