Thierry Mugler is directing a ballet which will premiere in London in December.
The famed fashion designer left fashion in 2002 and has occasionally been tempted to make a return, with him recently coming out of retirement to create Kim Kardashian’s Met Gala look in May.
Over the passing years, he has been focusing on his other passions, such as dance, and in a chat with The Birds actress Tippi Hedren for Interview magazine, Mugler revealed that he was directing a ballet to star Svetlana Zakharova from the Bolshoi Ballet in Russia.
“I’m going to be directing a ballet with one of the most brilliant contemporary dance choreographers, Wayne McGregor. It’ll be me, Wayne, and Svetlana. Tippi, come to the December premiere in London,” he said.
The 70-year-old, who worked with the Ballet de l’Opera national du Rhin in France in his teenage years, went on to gush about the Russian ballerina.
“I’m working with the ultimate ballerina, the most beautiful of all time, Svetlana Zakharova from the Bolshoi Ballet,” Mugler praised. “Her beauty is beyond what we’ve ever seen before, and there really will never be another one like her. You can be the most incredible dancer, a technical and inspired dancer, but if you don’t have the right foot, the right ankle, the right knee, the right proportion, the right neck – she has everything.”
The French designer and bodybuilder has radically transformed his appearance, and he explained that dance showed him there is no limit to what you can do with your body.
“It showed me that there are no limits. When you do intense stretching the way I do, it’s sort of a meditation. And as time progresses, you realise it’s infinite. You die before you reach the end of your perfect technique, and then we become something else, so it is truly infinite,” he shared.
