Ashley Graham gave her now-husband Justin Ervin a shortlist of engagement rings she liked in preparation for a proposal.
The 31-year-old met the videographer in church in 2009 and he popped the question after they had been dating for a year, with the pair getting married two months later.
Ashley didn’t pick her ring out, but she gave Justin a clear idea of what she wanted by sending him photos of what she liked and what she didn’t.
“I knew I wanted stackable, flat to the hand, gold – but not shiny – matte, brushed. I couldn’t see the ring in my head, but those were the non-negotiables,” she recalled to Harper’s Bazaar Bride.
The curvy model got her wish and now has a set of stackable gold bands tipped in petite diamonds on her ring finger, which she hopes to add to when they celebrate their 10th wedding anniversary next year.
When Justin proposed, he told Ashley that he wanted to get married in two months, so she let him take care of organising the nuptials with the help of a wedding planner.
“I said, ‘You’re marrying a girl that doesn’t care about weddings so – you plan it, and I’ll just show up,'” Ashley shared. “Sure enough, he planned the whole thing with a wedding planner. When I showed up, and when I saw what Justin had done, I was in shock. And then he brought the wedding planner over, but there was not one decision that I had to make.”
Because of the quick turnaround, Ashley was unable to get a bespoke wedding dress, so she went back home to Nebraska and bought one off the rack.
“It was a size 10 with a corset, and so we had to put a whole panel in the back so it was a whole situation – my boobs were spilling out – but it didn’t matter because it was my wedding day, and I loved the dress,” the star recalled.
