Carrie Underwood wanted to create “pretty and functional” swimwear for her new line to make all women feel confident.
The country singer recently launched a swimwear collection as part of her CALIA by Carrie Underwood athleisure range, and she told People her aim with the line was to create designs that were “pretty and functional” so women didn’t have to worry about risking a wardrobe malfunction while looking after their children.
“I’ve had women come up to me and be like, ‘Thank you! I can take my teenage daughter and we can get things that are cute but also appropriate for her and for me,'” she said. “And I think of myself running after my crazy kids and being at hotel pools, wanting to be cute but also not wanting to worry about things… Everything stays where it’s supposed to!”
Carrie is now mother to two sons – four-year-old Isaiah and six-month-old Jacob – with husband Mike Fisher, but even before she had children, she would opt for “sporty” swimwear and avoid tiny string bikinis.
“I feel like with swimwear, growing up in my teenage years, early twenties, I couldn’t wear a triangle swimsuit… I can’t do it, it’s not going to happen. It would never have happened,” the 36-year-old insisted.
And though Carrie isn’t the biggest fan of swimming, Isaiah “loves being in the water,” so she’ll take him to the pool, where she prefers to watch him from the sidelines.
“It’s nice watching him, maybe having a glass of wine by the pool,” the Cry Pretty singer joked.
CALIA by Carrie Underwood is available from Dick’s Sporting Goods stores.
