Mahershala Ali has been tapped to star in Ermenegildo Zegna’s latest campaign.
The two-time Oscar-winning actor has had a longstanding relationship with designers at the Italian luxury fashion house and often sports Zegna suits at red carpet events.
Now, Ali is fronting the marketing imagery for the label’s fall/winter 2019/2020 adverts, which are themed around the question of “What Makes a Man?”
“Mahershala Ali is a versatile actor who has depicted and embodied many shades of masculinity,” a brand representative praised. “He is a natural fit to represent the idea of what a man is today. He brings a personal gravitas and a lightness of spirit, an inner richness and wit.”
In one image, Ali is seen in black trousers and a beige blazer while sitting on a wooden floor and playing with toy cars, while in another snap, the 45-year-old poses on a balcony while clutching a white flower.
Hong Kong-based star Nicholas Tse also appears in the campaign, and in one photo, sits in a leather chair in grey trousers and a tweed jacket while holding an electric guitar.
“The talented and multifaceted artist Nicholas Tse was destined to become a star since the day he was born. His unique personality and passion for the arts, coupled with his determination to challenge stereotypes, makes him the perfect voice to explore the meaning of modern masculinity,” the spokesperson added of the 39-year-old.
In addition, Zegna bosses have created a What Makes a Man T-shirt for the new line, with proceeds to be donated to a global charity supporting education programmes.
