Oscar de la Renta has tapped into its Latin American roots for spring/summer 2020.
The luxury fashion house, which is helmed by co-creative directors Fernando Garcia and Laura Kim, unveiled their latest collection at the Cunard Building as part of New York Fashion Week on Tuesday night, with celebrities including Lucy Hale, Karolina Kurkova, and Priyanka Chopra all perched on the front row.
In the show notes, the designers explained that they were inspired by late brand founder de la Renta’s Dominican heritage, as well as Garcia’s childhood, as he grew up in the same nation, as well as in northern Spain.
With a backdrop featuring colourful arched walls, potted palm trees, and baskets filled with fruit, the presentation opened with a model walking the white runway in a draped pink and peach dress matched with a pale pink blazer, with the ensemble topped off with strappy white stilettos.
A series of dresses made of floaty fabrics in yellow and floral print followed, with Garcia and Kim also introducing knitted tops and pleated skirts, kaftan-style dresses, striped asymmetrical gowns with frayed edging, as well as strapless gowns with woven patterning.
Featuring a palette of sunset hues, including lemon yellows, orange, and blush pink, the line was interspersed with touches of sky blue, olive green, and coral.
The show wrapped up with a parade of models showing off glamorous evening gowns made of taffeta or tiered tulle, with Candice Swanepoel rocking a strapless nude number with a corset-like bodice, and Irina Shayk closing the spectacle in a gorgeous black gown with halterneck and high-low skirt.
New York Fashion Week continues on Wednesday with shows from Michael Kors and Dennis Basso.
