Valentino is set to stage a couture runway show in Beijing.
It will be the first time in six years that the Italian fashion house has held a show in China, as it traditionally debuts couture collections in Paris, France.
The exclusive event on 7 November will also coincide with the launch of its new flagship store, which was designed by creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli and British architect David Chipperfield.
The huge 4,503-square-foot two-level boutique features a three-sided, transparent floor-to-ceiling glass window and high ceilings, which Piccioli wanted to include in the design to create a dream-like effect.
“Just like in a dream, where we cannot stop visions to happen, I would like this event to be experienced with no filters, no structures, no pre-conditions of any sort,” he said, according to WWD. “Because our ability to wonder when facing beauty has no limits and so has to be life: unlimited, profound, unexpected. Daydream-like.”
The flagship store in the Northern district of Taikoo Li Sanlitun shopping centre will carry all women’s and men’s ready-to-wear collections, accessories and fragrances.
Valentino chief executive officer Stefano Sassi said that China is “one of the most important markets for Valentino.”
“The recognition of our brand is very high and the loyalty from our clientele is very strong. The Chinese client appreciates Pierpaolo Piccioli’s collections where modernity and respect for values, not only of style, have made the brand great,” he added.
The first Valentino boutique in China opened in 2007, and there are 29 boutiques across the vast country, including three in Beijing alone.
