Liam Payne looked to former Calvin Klein underwear model Mark Wahlberg for inspiration when starring in his stripped-down Hugo Boss campaign.
The One Direction singer wowed in the jaw-dropping ads earlier this year, and in a new interview, has now revealed that the Hollywood actor had a hand in helping him prepare.
“I love Mark, he’s amazing…. when I got to the underwear commercial, the first picture I saw was a reference of Mark from years ago,” he said in a sit down with the Australian radio show Smallzy’s Surgery.
Wahlberg himself was a boy band member, fronting the pop group Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch at the time of the promo in 1992.
“He is such a great role model to have in this business, he’s also had a really similar lifestyle like the one I’ve had so far,” the 26-year-old shared.
Liam, who had the opportunity to train with the star in Los Angeles prior to the shoot, also hopes to follow in his footsteps when it comes to his future work.
“He started in a band, then you know he’s doing the modelling and the underwear commercial, and obviously he’s had an amazing career since,” he added.
The photoshoot was shot by Mert Alaş and Marcus Piggott, with Robbie Spencer serving as creative director. In addition, Liam has teamed with designers at Hugo Boss on the Hugo x Liam Payne line, with items unveiled as part of Berlin Fashion Week last July.
The partnership marked the first apparel campaign from the brand to be fronted by a celebrity, with the likes of Jared Leto and Zac Efron previously appearing fragrance ads.
