Fashion designer Misha Nonoo created her own wedding dress.
The U.S.-based designer, who is best known for her eponymous line of women’s ready-to-wear clothing and her friendship with Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, tied the knot with oil heir Mikey Hess at Villa Aurelia in Rome, Italy on Friday.
When it came to selecting what to wear for her big day, Nonoo admitted to People that it was difficult making a gown for herself.
“It was really hard,” she said. “When I’m designing a piece, I’m usually thinking about every woman. It has to tick a lot of boxes. When you’re thinking about designing something that you’re going to wear for one day and you have to really only think about yourself, it’s different.
“Obviously, you want your husband to think you look beautiful and you want your respective families to as well, but otherwise you can do whatever you want – you can have short sleeves, long sleeves, high neck, low neck, open back, no back. It makes it much more challenging.”
However, in the end, Nonoo decided the best solution was to have two dresses.
“I like to design with a set of parameters. (It took some time) for me to come to what it was going to be in the end. I had some ideas initially. I knew I wanted it to be traditional. So, I’ve opted for two dresses, so I can tick both boxes!” the fashion star added.
Paparazzi photos showed Nonoo wearing a simple white dress as she arrived at the venue, while a delicate ivory grown with embellished floral details was seen being carried into the villa. No official photographs of the dresses have been released.
Nonoo and Hess exchanged vows in front of a star-studded crowd including Meghan and Prince Harry, Orlando Bloom and Katy Perry, Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner, Karlie Kloss and Joshua Kushner, and James Corden.
