Angelina Jolie has opened up for the first time about the iconic leg-baring dress she wore to the Oscars in 2012.
The actress wore the racy black Atelier Versace gown with thigh-high split to the 84th Academy Awards, and became a social media sensation and spawned the @AngiesRightLeg Twitter account when she powerfully posed with her right leg prominently on display.
Five years later, she’s finally revealed that she simply felt comfortable and confident in the dress while walking the red carpet with her then-husband Brad Pitt.
Angelina told Extra that there was another dress she was due to wear, but it was more “complicated”.
“There’s a whole longer story behind that. I had a more complicated dress and I wore the more comfortable dress, which was that one, and I think I was just so comfortable that… I think when you feel comfortable, when you feel yourself,” the 44-year-old explained. “You embrace it. And sometimes, maybe it appears to be a thing, I don’t know.”
She went on to add that she simply dressed for the theme of the red carpet, which also featured Gwyneth Paltrow’s white caped Tom Ford dress, Emma Stone’s flame-red Giambattista Valli Haute Couture high-necked creation, and Cameron Diaz’s strapless nude Gucci gown.
“You never know if it’s going to be pink in theme, because it could be,” Angelina continued, before revealing that her custom-made Versace dress actually had more secret slits in it.
“I have some panels that are see-through, so we have a secret slit, actually,” she shared.
