Cate Blanchett cherishes her close friendship with the notoriously private designer, Giorgio Armani.
The two-time Oscar winner has been the face of the Italian luxury label’s Si fragrance for more than six years, and last year, it was announced that Cate would front all of the brand’s make-up and skincare campaigns after she became Armani’s new global beauty ambassador.
The Australian actress regularly wears couture Armani Prive gowns on the red carpet, and recently donned a stunning sculpted, floor-length black strapless gown from the house at the premiere of Joker at the 2019 Venice Film Festival.
Opening up about her relationship with the 85-year-old Italian fashion icon, Cate revealed that their close friendship has been years in the making.
“I’ve been in a creative dialogue with Armani since I was 14,” she told Harper’s Bazaar. “I was always a great lover of masculine tailoring, and Armani was a huge touchstone for me in terms of growing up and developing my sense of aesthetic. And then to finally get to meet him and work with him, not only as a designer but also as a philanthropist… and now, being the ‘face’…
“It’s incredible, because I know how private he is. He takes a long time to move from being ‘Mr. Armani’ to being ‘Giorgio’, so I really prize our relationship.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Cate said she has previously considered quitting her Hollywood career and retiring to her English country home with her husband, Andrew Upton, and their four children.
“There are so many books I haven’t read, so many films I haven’t watched, so many conversations I haven’t had, so many plants I haven’t planted,” the 50-year-old shared. “I’m always saying I’m going to give it up. I think I’m done – but then someone presents me with a challenge.”
