Gisele Bundchen underwent breast surgery five years ago because she was “trying to please” others.
The Brazilian supermodel hit headlines in 2015 when she tried to evade the paparazzi by dressing in a burqa as she paid a visit to a plastic surgeon in Paris, but her attempts to fool waiting photographers failed after they identified her driver.
Gisele, who has previously expressed regrets about the procedure, has now addressed the incident in a new interview with Britain’s The Observer newspaper and shared that she didn’t do it for herself but because she was trying to please others.
“When I did that, I felt like I was trying to please. Because I was ‘the Body’ and… Look, I think if you do something because it is what you feel is your truth, then there is no problem,” she said. “Then whatever you do is going to bring you joy. But if you do it because it’s somebody else’s idea of you, that’s the problem. So that was another lesson that I’ve learned the hard way. I feel like today, where I’m at with my life, I don’t really care what anyone thinks. I care about living my truth. I care about being a great mother.”
The 39-year-old decided to get the procedure after breastfeeding her children Benjamin, 10, and Vivian, seven, for three years each.
“Yes, it’s going to make your body change. Yes, I can work out to be fit and feel good and rejuvenated, but I can’t change the fact that both my kids liked the left boob,” the model explained.
Gisele, who is married to American footballer Tom Brady, previously told People in 2018 that she wanted her breasts to be even and “for people to stop commenting on it”. She also insisted that she immediately regretted her decision when she woke up from the surgery.
“When I woke up, I was like, ‘What have I done?’ I felt like I was living in a body I didn’t recognise,” she confessed.
