Naomi Campbell has been tapped to front a Vivienne Westwood campaign for the first time.
The supermodel has been associated with the luxury British brand ever since 1993, when she famously fell over on the catwalk while wearing a pair of purple platform heels, and the duo have worked together on many occasions ever since, but never on a campaign.
The British fashion star has finally been tapped to front a campaign for the company and poses in some of the highlights from Westwood’s own line as well as the designer’s collaboration with her husband Andreas Kronthaler.
“I believe things in life come along when they are meant to. It’s taken 33 years to do a Westwood Campaign and I’m so happy to be doing it in my 49th year. Its meant to be when its meant to be…,” Naomi said in a statement.
In images from the spring/summer 2020 campaign, the 49-year-old can be seen wearing a red gown with white oversized statement gloves, a black crepe dress, a multicoloured shirt, and in an explicit shot, Naomi can be seen nothing but an oversized black tulle hat, black heels and a necktie.
Explaining the concept for collection, Westwood added, “When I design clothes they always have to have a story and when somebody shoots me in our clothes I always have to have that story in my mind. I’ve been reading Mythology – for this it was like we were on our way to paradise and we were all going to change from fish into birds…”
The images were shot by photographer Juergen Teller on the backstreets of the 18th Arrondissement in Paris as well as an indoor white space lit with neon lights. Westwood, Kronthaler and French model Kandioura Fissourou also feature in the images and campaign video.
