Karlie Kloss has recalled how she fell in love with husband Joshua Kushner “despite complications” over their political beliefs.
The couple first started dating in 2012, and six years later, Karlie, 27, converted to Judaism and they tied the knot in an intimate ceremony in October 2018.
Karlie has previously spoken about how her political beliefs differ from that of her in-laws, as Joshua’s older brother Jared Kushner serves as senior advisor to U.S. President Donald Trump, and in a new interview on Diane von Furstenberg’s podcast, InCharge with DVF, the model confessed that she struggled in the early days of their relationship.
“As much as you love someone else, you can’t change or lose who you are for someone else and I think being in such a serious relationship so young, I really had to realise those boundaries of how much I love somebody else, how much I want to give to them but also to respect what I need as the other half,” the Project Runway co-host explained, noting that her husband really “wants me to chase my dreams”.
“I really followed my heart on choosing to be with the person who I love despite any complications that came with it. For me, it was worth it to fight for that,” she added, seemingly referencing her Democratic political leanings, compared to those of her husband’s Republican relatives.
Elsewhere in the interview, Karlie sweetly touched upon married life and described the 34-year-old as her soulmate.
“He is truly my partner. He is my partner in life. He is my best friend. He is my other half. I didn’t know that I could love someone in this kind of way and I feel like I’ve almost grown up with him,” she gushed.
