Jane Fonda has given fans the ultimate ’80s throwback by reviving her iconic workouts in a promotion for her virtual Fire Drill Fridays rallies.
The Grace and Frankie actress took to video-sharing site TikTok on Thursday to post her first clip, in which she was dressed in gym clothes and positioned on a yoga mat.
“I’m bringing back the Jane Fonda workout during this home sequestration,” Fonda commented, before launching into a set of leg lifts.
However, the video then switched to a short clip from one of her popular 1980s workout videos, before cutting to a shot of the star standing in a red coat.
“You know what? There are too many workouts happening right now on television and computers. What I would really like for you to do is to work out with me for the planet,” the 82-year-old stated. “There’s a climate crisis that’s a real emergency. Whether you’re on your couch or your yoga mat, would you join me for the virtual Fire Drill Fridays? The future needs you, I need you.”
In the accompanying caption, Fonda called on her followers to join in on the virtual rally she is hosting on Friday alongside members of Greenpeace USA.
“Join our virtual #FireDrillFriday this Friday at 11am PT / 2pm ET to keep the pressure on politicians to adopt a #GreenNewDeal, end new fossil fuels, and enact a just transition to a renewable economy that protects workers and communities. Let’s tackle the climate crisis while we #StayHome,” she wrote.
Fonda has been arrested for civil disobedience a handful of times at her weekly Fire Drill Fridays rallies in Washington, D.C. in recent months, and will take to social media to continue her campaign amid the coronavirus lockdown. Those interested in taking part in the virtual rally can register at Greenpeace USA’s Zoom website.
