Donatella Versace has reminisced about her late brother Gianni Versace in a sweet social media post.
The chief creative officer of Versace has been posting memories from her lengthy career while holed up at her home in Milan, Italy during the country’s lockdown to help stop the spread of the Covid-19 virus.
And on Wednesday, she shared a touching snapshot of her and her sibling at the prestigious Met Gala in New York City almost 27 years ago.
“Here I am with my brother Gianni in New York, attending the #MetGala, it was May 1993,” Donatella wrote alongside the photo, which shows the then 37-year-old wearing a racy dress from her brother’s infamous bondage-themed Versace show back in 1992.
“Gianni that night was my stylist. I couldn’t give my opinion on one thing. He chose my clothes, my hair, my make-up and my jewellery. I didn’t have a say in ANYTHING!” she joked. “The bondage top, the leather skirt and tall black boots with gold chains were all from our fall ’92 collection, entitled Miss S&M!”
The 64-year-old reimagined the iconic minidress for Kim Kardashian in 2018, with the reality star spotted leaving her New York City hotel after the Met Gala in a bondage-inspired outfit.
The reality star’s look was inspired by an ensemble once modelled by Helena Christensen, with Donatella recreating the entire leather bustier including multiple straps and buckles.
Gianni was tragically shot and killed outside of his Miami Beach home at the age of 50 in 1997.
