Tavi Gevinson has taken Karlie Kloss to task over her ties to the Kushner and Trump families.
Karlie took to Instagram earlier this week to share a quote from writer Cleo Wade regarding the anti-racism movement following the death of African-American man George Floyd at the hands of police officers in Minneapolis, Minnesota on 25 May.
“Thank you @cleowade for the reminder to live by these principles, we needed this today,” the 27-year-old model wrote in the caption.
However, fashion blogger/actress Tavi did not take kindly to the post, and called on Karlie to take a much more vocal stance against her in-laws – including her husband Joshua Kushner’s brother, senior political advisor Jared Kushner, and his wife Ivanka Trump, who is the daughter of U.S. President Donald Trump.
“Karlie, give it a rest. You have a lot of nerve to make a show of championing girls’ coding and your family in public (lame @ you ignoring Ivanka on social media; she still went to your wedding). I can’t believe you’re not more embarrassed not just by them but YOUR decision to only publicly disown their politics in polite ways so you can have it both ways,” Tavi commented. “I don’t know what kind of conversations you have behind the scenes (besides when Jared asked your dad to solicit solutions to a global pandemic in a Facebook group back in March) but like…what am I looking at. This is a f**king joke.”
Previously, Karlie spoke about how her political beliefs differ from that of her extended family in an interview for Diane von Furstenberg’s podcast, InCharge with DVF, and confessed it hasn’t always been easy to balance her Democratic political leanings with that of her Republican relatives.
“I really followed my heart on choosing to be with the person who I love despite any complications that came with it. For me, it was worth it to fight for that,” she insisted of her relationship with Joshua.
Karlie and her beau tied the knot in 2018 after dating for six years.
