Will Ferrell loved that he looked like a Marvel character in Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga.
The Step Brothers actor stars as Icelandic musician Lars, who is in band called Fire Saga with his childhood friend Sigrit, played by Rachel McAdams, in the Netflix comedy.
Real-life Marvel costume designer Anna B. Sheppard, who’s behind the looks in Captain America: The First Avenger and Spider-Man: Far from Home, created the outfits for Ferrell’s new flick, which delighted the American funnyman.
“Will loved it,” Sheppard told Fashionista of the Thor-like costume Ferrell wears in a music video fantasy sequence. “So that was important, and we were joking because he said, ‘Oh, I look like somebody from a Marvel movie!’ And I said, ‘Because you have a Marvel costume designer, that’s why.'”
As for McAdams’ ice queen vibe, Sheppard drew inspiration from a little closer to home after rejecting two earlier designs.
“I asked my daughter to lend me her wedding dress,” she smiled. “It’s a £8,000 designer wedding dress and I really had to beg her – on my knees.”
She eventually agreed, but all hopes of seeing her gown immortalised on a billboard at the planned Rotterdam premiere, which would have coincided with the real Eurovision Song Contest, were dashed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The movie was instead released on Netflix in late June.
“We are watching it tomorrow (at home) so maybe she won’t be cross with me, hopefully,” Oscar nominee Sheppard said ahead of her home viewing.
