Tiffany Haddish shaved her head so she could wear wigs for her upcoming movie role.
Earlier this month, the Girls Trip star sparked concern when she took scissors and clippers to her hair during an Instagram Live, and told fans that she was relieved to finally be able to feel her scalp.
However, Haddish has since revealed that she underwent the dramatic hair transformation to prepare for an upcoming role in an undisclosed film.
“I actually have this movie that I am working on and my character has to wear wigs. So it would be easier if I don’t have any hair on my head. The wig will fit better,” she explained during Dave Chappelle’s socially distanced comedy gig in Ohio, according to the New York Post’s Page Six.
Haddish had been sporting braids for the last two months, and smiled in the 26-minute long Instagram Live video, which she saved to her grid, as she fired back at followers who alleged she was having a nervous breakdown.
“Why, when a woman decides, ‘Hey, I’m going to cut this hair off, because I want to see my scalp,’ she gotta have a mental problem?” the Like a Boss star said. “Nothing is wrong with my brain, guys. I’m not suffering from no emotional s**t, nothing. I’ve literally been talking about this for years, how I want to see my scalp. I know every single piece of my body… I’ve been talking about this for a long time.”
Haddish also said she wanted to cut down on the amount of time she had to dedicate to styling her textured hair.
“Even if your hair is braided, you gotta grease your scalp, you gotta tie ’em up at night, you gotta make sure they look neat, it’s a lot of work. So, I’m taking time off!” she laughed.
