Mindy Kaling has signed on to co-write Legally Blonde 3.

Rumours of a follow-up to the 2001 comedy and its 2003 sequel have been swirling for years, but Reese Witherspoon confirmed she would be reprising her role as sorority girl-turned-lawyer Elle Woods for a third instalment back in 2018 and the script has been in development ever since.

According to Deadline, Witherspoon’s friend and A Wrinkle in Time co-star Kaling has been hired to write the script with Brooklyn Nine-Nine co-creator Dan Goor.

It was previously announced that the franchise’s original scribes Kirsten ‘Kiwi’ Smith and Karen McCullah would be penning the screenplay, but according to the publication, Kaling and Goor won’t be doing a makeover on that script but writing a completely new take.

Legally Blonde 3 marks the second feature film Kaling and Goor have written together following a wedding comedy starring The Mindy Project creator and Priyanka Chopra. That project was won by Universal executives in a heated auction last year. Kaling’s recent solo writing credits include Late Night, starring herself and Emma Thompson, the TV version of Four Weddings and a Funeral, and Netflix’s Never Have I Ever.

The news comes shortly after Luke Wilson, who played Elle’s love interest Emmett in the movies, told Entertainment Tonight that he hadn’t talked to Witherspoon about the third film but “always kind of hears rumours here and there”.

“Never anything official about them doing another Legally Blonde, but I’d love to do another one,” the 48-year-old continued. “I mean, just that character Reese played was so funny at the time and that has kind of become this iconic character now.”

Witherspoon will also be producing the follow-up via her Hello Sunshine banner alongside the franchise’s original producer Marc Platt.

Storm Reid is reportedly the top choice to play Idris Elba’s daughter in the new Suicide Squad movie.

Editors at film publication The Wrap have claimed that the 16-year-old is being eyed for role in the upcoming The Suicide Squad, though a deal has yet to be reached. Specific details about the part Reid could potentially play are being kept secret, with little known about Elba’s character either.

Should the 16-year-old sign on for the movie, she and Elba will join John Cena among the new castmembers of the follow-up to 2016’s supervillain film.

Margot Robbie, Joel Kinnaman, and Jai Courtney are reportedly set to return as DC Comics characters Harley Quinn, Rick Flag, and Captain Boomerang, respectively, while Oscar winner Viola Davis will also be back as Amanda Waller.

Reid has enjoyed a steady rise to fame in Hollywood, and recently appeared in HBO’s new show Euphoria, alongside Zendaya, and reunited with A Wrinkle in Time director Ava DuVernay for her critically-acclaimed Netflix series, When They See Us.

The starlet will reportedly finish filming on The Invisible Man remake, with Elisabeth Moss, before beginning shooting the comic book movie.

Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn is taking charge of the project, simply titled The Suicide Squad, with production expected to begin in September, ahead of an August 2021 release.

The first movie, directed by David Ayer and co-starring Will Smith, Jared Leto and Cara Delevingne, was critically mauled but went on to make almost $750 million (£600 million) at the global box office.

Elba was originally cast as Deadshot, effectively replacing Smith, although it was reported soon after the news was announced that the 50-year-old Oscar nominee was disappointed the British actor did not get his blessing before accepting the role.

According to editors at Collider, Elba and Gunn then created a new part in the movie for the Golden Globe-winning actor, but details are still under wraps.

Ava DuVernay has been tapped to direct a Netflix documentary about the life of Prince.

The filmmaker has made history by becoming the first black female director to be nominated for a Golden Globe Award, and the first to have her film nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture for her work on 2014’s Selma.

More recently, DuVernay helmed Disney fantasy film A Wrinkle in Time starring Reese Witherspoon, Oprah Winfrey and Mindy Kaling, and now her latest project sees her telling the story of the late music legend.

“Prince was a genius and a joy and a jolt to the senses. He was like no other,” she told reporters at Deadline. “He shattered every preconceived notion, smashed every boundary, shared everything in his heart through his music. The only way I know how to make this film is with love. And with great care. I’m honoured to do so and grateful for the opportunity entrusted to me by the estate.”

In addition to being approached by members of the Kiss hitmaker’s estate, editors at Deadline also report that Prince personally reached out to DuVernay with a view of working together before he died in April 2016 at the age of 57.

The 46-year-old, who also directed the Oscar-nominated documentary 13th, has been granted full access to archives, recordings and even unreleased material by the flamboyant singer-songwriter.

The project is still in its early stages, and DuVernay, editor Spencer Averick and other members of her team have paid repeated visits to Prince’s Paisley Park home and studios in recent months.

Last month (Sep18), executives at Netflix denied that a Prince feature was in development after reporters at The Daily Mirror claimed that producers at the streaming service were hoping to sign Bruno Mars up to play the icon.

However, after the story was picked up by multiple outlets, representatives on behalf of the 24K Magic singer commented that the rumour was “100 per cent” false.

Actress Rowan Blanchard bats away makeup artists when they get too close to her eyebrows – the only part of her face she won’t touch.

The A Wrinkle in Time star refuses to pluck, tweeze or shape her gorgeous brows.

“I literally don’t do anything,” she tells Refinery29. “I’ve never trimmed them or tweezed them. I’ve had a lot of makeup people try to and I say ‘no’ so quickly. That’s one part of my face I actually feel comfortable with, so I don’t want to change that.

“My brows are like, ‘F**k yeah, this is me baby!’ If you saw my dad, you’d understand my brows. We’re Syrian and Armenian, so that’s why I have them.”

Although she has been pretty adamant about leaving her eyebrows untouched, the 16 year old admits she would consider altering them in one dream scenario.

“I’ve always wanted to dye it (hair) platinum blonde, like Angelina Jolie in Girl, Interrupted. No one will let me, but I really want to,” she shares. “Maybe I’ll get there after I turn 18. I’ll go platinum blonde and shave my eyebrows off.”

Until she reaches adulthood and can go wild with her look, Rowan will be experimenting with different styles through cosmetics.

“I definitely play a lot with makeup,” she shares. “Beauty is something that… is just so infinite, but also, so dictated by what we want to look like. It’s always been something I’m fascinated by, like using the face as a place to paint.

“I think there’s something very advantageous about makeup, but it’s also a way to manipulate gazes, which I’m constantly trying to deal with and play with, like how do I make people look at me like this, or how to make them not look at me.”

Oprah Winfrey has signed on as the newest investor of healthy dining chain True Food Kitchen.

The A Wrinkle In Time star and media mogul has purchased equity in the U.S. restaurant firm and will serve on the board of directors in a bid to bring wholesome food to more Americans.

“I love bringing people together over a good meal,” Winfrey said in a news release to USA Today. “When I first dined at True Food Kitchen, I was so impressed with the team’s passion for healthy eating and, of course, the delicious food, that I knew I wanted to be part of the company’s future.”

The 64 year old was so excited by True Food Kitchen’s fabulous fare after sharing her first meal with her friend, celebrity personal trainer Bob Greene, at a location in Santa Monica, California, she made contact with bosses at the company almost immediately, inviting CEO Christine Barone to dine with her at her Montecito estate, where the two women discussed business opportunities.

“We discussed the future of True Food Kitchen and our strategy, and our goals to bring this way of eating to more people,” Barone told The Republic. “I get excited any time anyone is interested in True Food Kitchen, so I was certainly incredibly excited that she loved our brand and wanted to part of our brand.”

True Food Kitchen has 23 restaurants across the U.S. and Oprah has signed on to help double the amount of locations by 2021. Her role in the restaurant chain, which was started by Sam Fox and Anti-Inflammatory Diet pioneer Dr. Andrew Weil in 2008, is significantly different than her post as spokesperson for American diet company Weight Watchers – Oprah won’t serve as a promotional vehicle for True Food Kitchen, with the billionaire instead applying her business mind to expand the chain as a consultant and collaborator.

“Her involvement is really key to growth and success as we move forward, and we’re excited for her to be on board,” Barone added. “She’ll really be providing insight as an incredibly successful businesswoman… We’re looking forward to all she will bring to our team.”

Actress Mindy Kaling had to be sewn into her Ocean’s 8 premiere gown on Tuesday (05Jun18) to avoid a red carpet wardrobe malfunction.

The A Wrinkle in Time star documented her preparations for the New York City launch of her new heist movie on Instagram, and even shared a little behind-the-scenes secret as she encountered a last-minute problem with the sparkly black halterneck gown she had chosen by designer Prabal Gurung.

“Post-panic. Mid-sew in. Pre-#Oceans8 Premiere,” she captioned an image of herself surrounded by assistants as they pulled the back of her dress together. “Is it really a red carpet without a wardrobe malfunction?”

Mindy didn’t reveal exactly what had gone wrong, but she heaped praise on her team, particularly hairstylist Marc Mena, for helping to resolve the unexpected fashion issue.

“My glam squad pulled through,” she shared on her Instagram Story timeline. “@marcmena to the rescue!”

She also posted video clips from her night out, which included an afterparty at the Big Apple’s Metropolitan Museum of Art, which serves as the scene of the crime in the film.

However, when the new mum returned to her New York hotel suite, she had to recruit a friend to carefully free her from the outfit.

“It was such a glamorous night, except now Akshara has to cut me out of my dress, so this should only take like, 20 to 30 minutes, I think!,” she giggled in the video.

Mindy stars in Ocean’s 8 alongside Cate Blanchett, Sandra Bullock, Sarah Paulson, Anne Hathaway, and Rihanna, among others. The film, an all-female spin-off from the George Clooney ensemble franchise, was directed by Gary Ross and opens in theatres this week (ends08Jun18).

Actress and comedienne Mindy Kaling was working out right up until she gave birth, because she didn’t think she’d be able to lose a lot of extra baby weight.

The 38-year-old A Wrinkle in Time star welcomed her first child, a baby girl named Katherine, in December (17), and admits she was exercising right up until the morning she went into labour.

“Because I like to eat, and I’m not skinny to start with, I knew that if I gained a lot of weight during my pregnancy, things could just fly off the rails in a really bad way…,” she tells Shape magazine, “so I kept my weight gain to about 27 pounds.

“I also worked out whenever I could while I was pregnant. I did a lot of yoga and a lot of walking, and I jogged until I couldn’t jog anymore. I exercised until the morning I gave birth.”

As a result, Mindy is a happy and healthy new mum – and even her daughter seems to be happy with her.

“She is a really happy baby,” the actress adds. “When she was born, she was kind of skinny and anxious. I think she was like, ‘Can this woman take care of me?’ But during our many breastfeeding sessions, we’ve gotten to know each other, and she’s learned to trust me over time…

“It hits me all the time that I have somebody at home who not just wants to see me but needs to see me. That’s incredibly rewarding. When someone needs you all the time, and they also kind of look like you, it’s a really nice feeling.”

And Kaling hopes that continues as Katherine gets older: “I want my daughter to be proud of what I do. I want her to brag about me to her friends,” she beams.

Zach Galifianakis avoided improvisation on the A Wrinkle in Time set as he didn’t want to ruin the story with “dumb jokes”.

The actor and comedian portrays alien being The Happy Medium in Ava DuVernay’s new film, which is based on the 1962 novel of the same name by Madeleine L’Engle, that follows a young girl who sets off to find her father with the help of three astral travellers.

While Zach is known for his hilarious turns in flicks such as The Hangover and Due Date but when it came to his latest project he felt it was wise to stick to the script.

“I didn’t want to do too much (improvisation) because, again, it might seem out of place in a movie like this,” he told Screen Rant. “It’s just much easier, especially when the lines are so precious, and I thought the script was great, I thought it was there, I didn’t want to ruin it with my dumb jokes.”

Zach went on to explain that Ava asked him to deliver some off-the-cuff lines a couple of times but he was “trepidatious” to do so as he was concerned about striking the right tone.

The star was also focused on getting his character’s image right, especially as the figure is a woman in the novel. Yet, Ava and Zach collaborated on all the details for his costume, right down to his man-bun hairstyle.

“Ava sent me a bunch of images of a hair style and the one we ended up using was the one that I picked first, I said, ‘This is uh, you know, a white guy with corn rows, perfect,'” the 48-year-old shared, adding,”I liked all of Ava’s ideas, so it was pretty easy.”

A Wrinkle in Time, which also features Storm Reid, Mindy Kaling, Reese Witherspoon and Oprah Winfrey, began hitting cinemas earlier this month (Mar18).

Ryan Coogler has written a touching tribute to his “big sister” Ava DuVernay.

As the 45-year-old opened her new movie A Wrinkle in Time in the U.S. on Friday (09Mar18), the Black Panther director penned a sweet letter describing the filmmaker as one of his heroes.

“Ava DuVernay is someone who makes the impossible look easy,” he wrote in an article for ESPN. “It’s why I feel privileged to call her my big sister. I met her in 2013, but she’s one of those people who you feel like you’ve always known.”

He continued: “Ava is a pioneer. She makes the most distant dreams and ideas a reality. She made a show called Queen Sugar and mandated the use of female directors and key creatives a full two years before the great Frances McDormand shared with the world what an inclusion rider was. Ava is inclusion, equity and representation.”

The 31-year-old added that the Selma director was “already one of (his) heroes” before they had ever met because he admired her 2010 and 2012 films I Will Follow and Middle of Nowhere.

Coogler went on to describe DuVernay, who at one point was in talks to helm Black Panther, as the “past, present and future”, and joked: “Sometimes I forget she is human.”

He concluded his sweet tribute by praising the “beautiful” movie, A Wrinkle in Time, which stars Reese Witherspoon, Oprah Winfrey and Storm Reid.

“I watched closely from across the hall at Disney while working on Black Panther as my big sister inspired her crew with love and navigated the challenges of studio filmmaking, adapting a book that many people called unfilmable into a movie that explodes with hope, with love and with women warriors,” he wrote.
