Carine Roitfeld is hosting a star-studded virtual fashion show to raise awareness for the coronavirus relief effort.

The second annual CR Runway show, in collaboration with the amfAR Fund to Fight Covid-19, will be a catwalk extravaganza featuring the likes models Karlie Kloss, Alessandra Ambrosio, Ashley Graham, Adriana Lima, Halima Aden, Hailey Bieber, and Irina Shayk.

Hosted by Derek Blasberg, head of fashion and beauty partnerships at YouTube, the Fashion Unites show will feature runway walks with models wearing looks from their own personal wardrobes, which Roitfeld styled remotely.

The 30-minute show has been entirely self-filmed and will feature inspiring words from the fashion elite.

Designers Diane von Furstenberg, Virgil Abloh, and Alexander Wang are set to make a virtual appearance alongside Kim Kardashian, Winnie Harlow, and Amber Valletta.

The former editor-in-chief of Vogue Paris said she was inspired to “engage with the creativity of others more than ever” while in self-isolation at her luxury apartment in Paris, France.

“I am very proud of how much we all stepped out of our comfort zones to create this event,” she told WWD. “For the first time, hairstylists brought their visions to life without the use of their hands, models called the shots from behind the camera, and I learned how to style looks using only what I could see through a video call on my phone.”

The inaugural CR Runway fashion show, co-founded by Vladimir Restoin Roitfeld, debuted in Florence, Italy, in June last year, and included models Irina Shayk, Bella Hadid, Karolina Kurkova, and Stella Maxwell.

The Fashion Unites show will stream on YouTube at 4pm (EST) on Friday.

A Hindu group is demanding an apology from Alessandra Ambrosio over the name of her “highly inappropriate” bikini collection.

Last year, the Brazilian supermodel teamed up with her sister Aline Ambrosio and best friend Gisele Coria to create luxury brand GAL Floripa, which includes one-pieces, triangle tops, bandeaus, and bottoms.

They recently launched a new collection called Yantra Style, which features a swimsuit and bikini in golden yellow tones, with prices starting at $180 (£138), and is inspired by the Sri Yantra symbol.

However, members of the Universal Society of Hinduism have taken offence to the use of the word “yantra” for the supermodel’s bikini line, and want her to apologise and rename the collection.

In a statement, Rajan Zed, president of the Universal Society of Hinduism, said that using the term was disrespectful, and the yantra was a “serious and sacred symbol/concept used for Hindu liturgy, and meditation and was installed in many Hindu temples.”

He added that the “highly revered” yantra was meant to be used as part of worship in temples and not to be used in selling bikinis for “mercantile greed.”

“It is very disrespectful to link such a sacred symbol with a product which touched pelvis and buttocks,” Zed continued. “How could a bikini bring enlightenment as indicated by Ambrosio’s firm?”

He called for the inappropriate usage of Hindu deities, concepts, icons, or symbols for commercial or other agenda to be halted immediately.

A representative for the Victoria’s Secret model has yet to comment on the statement.

Tommy Hilfiger and Lewis Hamilton recruited many famous faces to model their latest designs at London Fashion Week on Sunday.

The American designer unveiled his fourth collection in partnership with the Formula One driver, as well as their capsule collection with musician H.E.R., at the TOMMYNOW Spring 2020 show held at the Tate Modern in London on Sunday night, with celebrity guests including Billy Porter, Charli XCX, and Meghan Trainor.

The show featured a diverse, age, and size-inclusive mix of models from both sides of the Atlantic, ranging from ’90s British favourites Jodie Kidd, Yasmin Le Bon, and Erin O’Connor to newcomers such as Halima Aden, Alton Mason, and Jasmine Sanders. Other U.K. faces included Jourdan Dunn, Georgia May Jagger, and Karen Elson, while international models included Winnie Harlow, Alessandra Ambrosio, and Candice Swanepoel.

The famous faces on the runway vastly outnumbered those sitting front row, with the show also featuring celebrity relatives such as Helena Christensen and Norman Reedus’ son Mingus, Kate Moss’ sister Lottie, Liam Gallagher’s son Lennon, Bob Geldof’s daughter Pixie, and Christy Turlington’s nephew James.

The genderless ‘See Now, Buy Now’ collection was the most sustainable TommyxLewis release to date, with 75 per cent of the line using more sustainable production methods, including organic cotton, recycled fabric, and low-impact denim washes.

Naomi Campbell opened the show wearing a neon yellow and beige tracksuit with chunky high-top sneakers. A number of streetwear looks followed, before the collection focused on preppy outfits heavily featuring nautical stripes and the stars and stripes of the U.S. flag, with Ambrosio wearing a crisp navy blue blazer over the top of a white and blue striped shirt, worn as a dress, and a white jumper.

Hamilton linked arms with Campbell as he walked down to the catwalk with Hilfiger and H.E.R. to give the final bow.

“Thanks to @thomasjhilfiger, @hermusicofficial, all my amazing models including @naomi and of course to everyone at @tommyhilfiger,” he wrote on Instagram. “It’s been such a journey to create our most sustainable collection to date, but it’s something I’m so proud that we’ve been able to achieve. Feeling very grateful for all our hard work today.”

London Fashion Week continues on Monday with presentations from Burberry, JW Anderson, and Erdem.

Alessandra Ambrosio will be heading home to her native Brazil to celebrate New Year’s Eve at the beach with her family.

The retired Victoria’s Secret Angel, who resides in California, will be flying back to her native Brazil to ring in the New Year with her family and take part in all the Brazilian traditions.

“I’ll be in Brazil so I just get to spend time with my family by the beach,” the model told New York Post’s gossip column Page Six of her New Year’s plans. “We have many traditions in Brazil for New Year’s. Everyone wears white. There’s a lot of fireworks. Everyone goes to the beach. You have to jump seven waves and you make a wish in each wave, and then we throw flowers to the goddess of the ocean. So there’s a lot of traditions that we do!”

The 38-year-old, who shares 11-year-old daughter Anja and seven-year-old son Noah with her former fiance Jamie Mazur, already has a resolution in mind for 2020 but she didn’t want to share it with the outlet, with her explaining, “Otherwise it’s not going to happen! But it’s always something good.”

The catwalk beauty spent Christmas in Santa Monica with her children and new partner Nicolo Oddi this year, but she explained that if she goes to Brazil for the festive holiday, she will spend it having fun in the sun because it’s summer in the country.

“I’m from Brazil and (traditions are) very different because it’s always summer there and it’s nice and warm,” she said. “So Christmas is usually by the beach and super hot … for me, it’s all about just hanging with the whole family together, family and friends and just making the most of it.”

Alessandra Ambrosio was sad the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show was cancelled because it always felt like the beginning of Christmas.

The 38-year-old Brazilian beauty walked the runway for the famous lingerie brand 17 times before she retired after the 2017 edition of the Fashion Show, which traditionally takes place in November.

However, when it was confirmed that the show would not be returning this year, Alessandra was disappointed as for her, it meant that the festive season had well and truly begun.

“We had such a good time,” she told People.com. “For us, it was like the beginning of Christmas. Because just before Christmas, there was the Victoria’s Secret show.”

The mother-of-two told the outlet that the women she shared the runway with, such as Adriana Lima, Behati Prinsloo, Candice Swanepoel, Elsa Hosk and Shanina Shaik, were like family, and she used to hold viewing parties.

“That’s what I miss the most, working with them” Alessandra sadly shared. “When the show aired on TV, I used to gather all my friends and have a pyjama party. It was always fun and very Christmas-y, so I’ll miss that, for sure.”

And when it comes to staying fit during the festive season, the model confessed that before it was easy, because she relied on getting in shape for the Victoria’s Secret show, so she’s now having to plan plenty of outdoor workouts at her home in Los Angeles to maintain her figure.

“I just got a new big dog and she requires a lot of walks, so I take her on big hikes in L.A. and that keeps me fit. For New Year’s, I get to go to Brazil and so that helps too – a lot of swimming, being in the water and being on the beach,” she said.

Emily Ratajkowski and Teddy Quinlivan have blasted the models who agreed to take part in a controversial trip to Saudi Arabia.

High-profile models including Winnie Harlow, Alessandra Ambrosio, and Stella Maxwell joined the likes of Armie Hammer, Ryan Phillippe, Sofia Richie, and Scott Disick in the country’s capital of Riyadh for the MDL Beast Festival.

Members of the Saudi government allegedly gifted the all-expenses-paid tours to celebrities and Instagram influencers to improve the country’s reputation and spark an interest in their tourism industry, despite their track record of human-rights abuses.

According to editors at news outlet Insider, Richie shared a picture on Instagram from Riyadh’s opulent Ritz-Carlton hotel, which was reportedly the same hotel that Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman used to detain a number of prominent people under the guise of anti-corruption charges.

In light of the issue, Ratajkowski released a statement to moderators at fashion commentary website Diet Prada and told them she had turned down the trip.

“It is very important to me to make clear my support for the rights of women, the LGBTQ community, freedom of expression and the right to a free press,” the 28-year-old stated. “I hope coming forward on this brings more attention to the injustices happening here.”

While Quinlivan took to Instagram to share her disgust at her fellow models and urged her followers to be “conscious” of their actions.

“As a LGBTQ+ rights activist, supporter of human rights and equality of the sexes, I felt it was important I speak on this issue specifically on this platform,” the 25-year-old, who came out as transgender in 2017, wrote. “We all have to be conscious of what we are supporting and what we lend our platforms to.”

Martha Hunt also turned down the trip to MDL Beast Festival.

“I stand in solidarity with the repressed people of Saudi Arabia and refuse to be used as a campaign to cover up those suffering from injustice,” she said.

Journalist Jamal Khashoggi was assassinated by Saudi operatives at the nation’s consulate in Istanbul, Turkey in October 2018. The Saudi royal family has denied ordering or sanctioning the killing. In addition, women’s rights activist Loujain al-Hathloul was arrested in May 2018. She remains in prison pending the next court session.

Alessandra Ambrosio has been tapped to star in the new campaign for Pretty Ballerinas.

The Brazilian model is taking over from Olivia Palermo as the face of the footwear label, known for its ballet pumps and flat shoes, and will front the spring/summer 2020 imagery.

“Alessandra Ambrosio shows that the flat designs of Pretty Ballerinas can be as sexy and sophisticated as any high heel when posing for a photocall or walking the red carpet,” said creative director Ursula Mascaro. “Twelve creations, 12 Pretty Ballerinas designs for 12 looks created especially for 12 moments of Alessandra’s life. They are the core of a collection that inspires nights of glamour, and days of freshness, sensuality, and joy.”

In the images, Alessandra is seen posing in colourful ballet flats, animal print slides, and chunky sneakers. She also shows off some new accessories, such as a red leather purse and a cross-body handbag.

Accordingly, a Pretty Ballerinas spokesperson added that Alessandra was a natural fit for the brand because of the effortless way in which she navigates motherhood and the modelling world.

“Alessandra Ambrosio is a symbol of a generation of supermodels that entered the world of fashion in the late 90s, becoming an international icon after gaining her Victoria’s Secret Angel wings,” they commented. “She follows the path started by Olivia Palermo as the contemporary Audrey Hepburn of the new millennium with its values of elegance, naturalness, and sophistication, but providing a more sexy and powerful image closer to the reality of today’s women.”

Pretty Ballerinas’ spring/summer 2020 collection is now available to buy online.

Alessandra Ambrosio has been honoured with a wax figure at Madame Tussauds in New York.

The Victoria’s Secret Angel unveiled her wax double – which is based on her stunning look from this year’s Cannes Film Festival – as part of the museum’s Fashion Experience exhibition on Thursday.

At the film festival in May, Alessandra wowed when she was photographed wearing the daring red halterneck Julien Macdonald gown, which featured a racy thigh-high split.

“It was definitely one of my favourite (looks) and it came out everywhere,” she told the New York Post’s Page Six Style column of the decision to choose that particular outfit for her Madame Tussauds figure. “So I was like, let’s just do that one.”

And she revealed that designer Julian recreated the dress just for the waxwork. “It was pretty amazing,” she gushed.

Alessandra also discussed her panic over wearing the red gown, as she was due to wear another outfit from a different designer but changed her mind at the very last minute.

“The funny thing about this outfit is when I was walking to the carpet, I had a different dress to wear. And maybe like 30 minutes before I got dressed, they shipped this dress,” the 38-year-old beauty added. “And when I opened the dress, I was like, ‘Let me try!’ and it fit like a glove.”

The Fashion Experience exhibition offers visitors to the museum the opportunity to hit the catwalk and strut their stuff with tips from the Brazilian beauty.

Slick Woods attended the Puma x Balmain clothing launch on Thursday, shortly after it was revealed she was battling melanoma cancer.

The 23-year-old model, real name Simone Thompson, casually announced that she was undergoing chemotherapy on Instagram on Wednesday and reporters at The Shade Room subsequently claimed she had told them she was suffering from stage three melanoma cancer.

And Slick proved that she wasn’t letting her health battle get her down when she made a public appearance at the launch of fellow model Cara Delevingne’s clothing collaboration with Balmain’s Olivier Rousteing and sportswear giant Puma at Milk Studios in Los Angeles.

Dressed in black trousers, a baseball cap, sneakers and a denim jacket, she styled the look in an interesting way by securing the bottom buttonhole to the top button, exposing her shoulder, midriff, and green mesh vest top.

The launch was also attended by models Alessandra Ambrosio and Shanina Shaik and stars including Amber Heard, Eva Longoria, Bella Thorne, Machine Gun Kelly, and G-Eazy, who all sported pieces from the boxing-inspired collection.

The Savage x Fenty model referred to her medical treatment when she shared a photo of herself sticking out her tongue while out with her boyfriend Micky Munday and some friends.

“How I feel about chemotherapy, shout out to everyone that gotta go through it #atleastimalreadybald,” she wrote in the caption.

As fans expressed their shock at the news and sent their well wishes, Slick shared a picture of a pouting child and urged her followers to “stop treating me like a victim”.

Slick gave birth to a son named Saphir, who she shares with model Adonis Bosso, shortly after walking the Savage X Fenty show in September 2018.

Alessandra Ambrosio wanted debut bikini line to be ‘sexy and functional’

Alessandra Ambrosio used her experiences as both a model and a mother when it came to creating her debut bikini line GAL Floripa.

The former Victoria’s Secret Angel has teamed up with her sister Aline Ambrosio and best friend Gisele Coria to create the brand, the first collection of which is titled “Galactic Sun”.

Garments include one-pieces, triangle tops, bandeaus and bottoms in either a more modest high-waisted cut or a flesh-flashing Brazilian style – all in sun-safe “super soft Lycra”.

And in designing the pieces, Alessandra turned to her own life and thought about what she wanted in her swimwear.

“Now I’m a mom and when I go to the beach, I’m running around with my kids. So, I definitely want something that will stay in place and give me mobility,” she told Fashionista.com. “Obviously with Victoria’s Secret, they are a beautiful, sexy brand. (So, our line) needs to have that sexy element and I love that because, to me, we can always use that in our favour… We tried to create shapes that will show your body in the best way so you will feel good and comfortable.”

While many of Alessandra’s fans have praised her for turning her attention to designing, others have criticised GAL Floripa for coming in such limited sizes – with the smallest a U.S. size zero to two (U.K. size four to six) and the largest a size eight to 10 (U.K. size 12 to 14). And with 68 per cent of women in America wearing a size 14 (U.K. size 18) or bigger, the line is cutting out a significant market by catering to smaller women.

However, Alessandra insisted that they do want to introduce bigger sizes in the future – but are just starting out small to test the water.

“We’re a small brand, so we want to test everything (first),” she explained. “We want to make sure everything is in a perfect state and, for sure, the plans are to expand on the sizes and on the shapes. Hopefully, everything will go the way we want and we’re working hard to make that happen.”
