Joan Smalls has been left “overwhelmed” by the support she has received for calling out the fashion industry for not doing enough to support the Black Lives Matter movement.

On Thursday, the Puerto Rico-born model posted a lengthy video on Instagram in which she criticised the fashion industry for simply “jumping on the bandwagon” by supporting the Black Lives Matter movement and urged industry leaders to take action to address the racism and inequality that she has experienced during her modelling career. Smalls said it feeds “the beast of racism and inequality” and called on leaders to give people of colour “a real seat at the table”.

Her fellow models heaped praise on her in the comments, with Kendall Jenner, Imaan Hammam, Lily Aldridge, Duckie Thot, Karen Elson, and Ashley Graham all writing supportive messages. They also spread the word by sharing the video on their Instagram Stories, with Cara Delevingne and British Vogue editor-in-chief Edward Enninful also posting it on their timelines with gushing captions.

Uploading the video on their respective Instagram Stories, Amber Valletta wrote, “Listen up fashion family (praying hands emoji) Take Action,” Alton Mason posted, “I love you Joan! We in this together (sic). Thank you Queen @joansmalls,” while Victoria’s Secret star Jasmine Tookes stated, “Our stories will be heard… Very well said @joansmalls… Couldn’t agree more & have had all of the same experiences.”

Hours later, the 31-year-old, who also pledged to donate half her income for the rest of 2020 towards organisations supporting the Black Lives Matter movement, wrote a message on her own Stories timeline to explain how much the positive reaction has meant to her.

“I’m truly overwhelmed by the support and the love shown. To my friends, to my family and my Gaaaang! I love you more then (sic) you’ll ever know. I was nervous about this and had a lot of sleepless nights, so my heart is def touched,” she commented.

Tommy Hilfiger and Lewis Hamilton recruited many famous faces to model their latest designs at London Fashion Week on Sunday.

The American designer unveiled his fourth collection in partnership with the Formula One driver, as well as their capsule collection with musician H.E.R., at the TOMMYNOW Spring 2020 show held at the Tate Modern in London on Sunday night, with celebrity guests including Billy Porter, Charli XCX, and Meghan Trainor.

The show featured a diverse, age, and size-inclusive mix of models from both sides of the Atlantic, ranging from ’90s British favourites Jodie Kidd, Yasmin Le Bon, and Erin O’Connor to newcomers such as Halima Aden, Alton Mason, and Jasmine Sanders. Other U.K. faces included Jourdan Dunn, Georgia May Jagger, and Karen Elson, while international models included Winnie Harlow, Alessandra Ambrosio, and Candice Swanepoel.

The famous faces on the runway vastly outnumbered those sitting front row, with the show also featuring celebrity relatives such as Helena Christensen and Norman Reedus’ son Mingus, Kate Moss’ sister Lottie, Liam Gallagher’s son Lennon, Bob Geldof’s daughter Pixie, and Christy Turlington’s nephew James.

The genderless ‘See Now, Buy Now’ collection was the most sustainable TommyxLewis release to date, with 75 per cent of the line using more sustainable production methods, including organic cotton, recycled fabric, and low-impact denim washes.

Naomi Campbell opened the show wearing a neon yellow and beige tracksuit with chunky high-top sneakers. A number of streetwear looks followed, before the collection focused on preppy outfits heavily featuring nautical stripes and the stars and stripes of the U.S. flag, with Ambrosio wearing a crisp navy blue blazer over the top of a white and blue striped shirt, worn as a dress, and a white jumper.

Hamilton linked arms with Campbell as he walked down to the catwalk with Hilfiger and H.E.R. to give the final bow.

“Thanks to @thomasjhilfiger, @hermusicofficial, all my amazing models including @naomi and of course to everyone at @tommyhilfiger,” he wrote on Instagram. “It’s been such a journey to create our most sustainable collection to date, but it’s something I’m so proud that we’ve been able to achieve. Feeling very grateful for all our hard work today.”

London Fashion Week continues on Monday with presentations from Burberry, JW Anderson, and Erdem.

Candice Swanepoel is “grateful” for the way social media has allowed her to connect with so many new people.

The Victoria’s Secret Angel took to Instagram on Monday to share a bare-faced selfie, and in the accompanying caption, insisted that she appreciates every single one of her 14 million followers.

“Thank you for sharing in so many of my happy moments and for supporting my career and the things I care about…” the 31-year-old wrote. “We can point out many negatives on the effect social media has on society and people’s psyche, but it also allows us to connect in ways that were not available before…”

Candice went on to explain that she has met some of her “favourite people” on Instagram and thanked those who shared “so much positivity on this platform”.

“Isn’t it a beautiful thing to build each other up and support each other, life can be complicated, and we are all fighting different battles, so I just wanted to express my gratitude for all the love shared here. Kindness is free,” she touchingly concluded.

The mother-of-two was inundated with love and support from her followers on the post, which has more than 395,000 likes, and fellow Victoria’s Secret Angel Lily Aldridge left a series of heart emojis in the comments, as did Amber Valletta.

“Beautiful inside and out, ily (I love you),” model Alton Mason gushed.
