Rooney Mara is a huge fan of meditation.
The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo star has become famed for her flawless skin and effortlessly elegant style, but, like the rest of us, the actress often falls victim to external stresses, anxiety and over-thinking – and has found meditation to be one of the greatest cures.
Speaking to Marie Claire about the power of self-care, Rooney revealed that she started doing Vedic meditation, a similar form of transcendental meditation involving the use of a mantra, over two years ago and now incorporates the practice into her routine every day for 20 minutes.
“I really believe that taking care of your state of mind should be the same as taking care of your body,” she shared. “You wash as part of your daily routine and you wouldn’t skip brushing your teeth, would you? If you think about meditation and self-care like that, it’s easier to stay on top of it. Meditation is just like a shower for your brain. I’ve found it to be life-changing actually.”
However, the ancient practice is just one cog in Rooney’s extensive exercise, diet and beauty regimen that keeps her looking and feeling good.
Not only has the 33-year-old turned vegan “for ethical reasons”, but she also enjoys a “minimalist” approach to make-up and calls on a number of celebrity trainers for a varied exercise routine.
“It depends which city I’m in, but I’ve worked out with (personal trainer) Andie Hecker for years,” she explained. “She used to be a New York ballet dancer, so we do Pilates and sometimes ballet. I also love The Class by Taryn Toomey (a yoga/cardio strength workout), and I do yoga and hike. I like to change it up.”
