Steven Soderbergh has written Sex, Lies, and Videotape sequel in lockdown

Steven Soderbergh has written a sequel to his breakout movie Sex, Lies, and Videotape during the coronavirus lockdown.

The Ocean’s Eleven filmmaker rose to prominence with his directorial debut, which went on to win the coveted Palme d’Or at the 1989 Cannes Film Festival and earned him a Best Original Screenplay Oscar nomination.

During an appearance on Flaviar’s NightCap Live on Tuesday, the director revealed he has been keeping busy during lockdown by writing scripts, including a sequel to the 1989 movie, which he hopes to make.

“During the lockdown, I’ve done more sustained writing than I’ve done since the summer of 1985,” he said, according to Collider. “When the lockdown happened here in New York, in order to stay organised and sane, I decided I’m gonna write. I’ve gotta go back to writing. So, within the first six or seven weeks of the lockdown, I finished three screenplays. One of them was a rewrite, one of them was an original, and one was an adaptation of a novel that I’ve been wanting to do. The original was a sequel to Sex, Lies, and Videotape. It was an idea that had been circling for a while, and I felt like I came up with the way to get back in, and so I wrote it, and I wanna make it.”

Soderbergh, who has since directed the likes of Erin Brockovich, Contagion, and Magic Mike, didn’t elaborate on plot details.

The original movie starred James Spader as a young man who videotapes women talking about their lives and sexuality as well as his impact on the relationships of a troubled married couple, played by Peter Gallagher and Andie MacDowell, and the wife’s younger sister, portrayed by Laura San Giacomo.

Soderbergh’s 2002 film Full Frontal is considered a spiritual sequel to Sex, Lies, and Videotape, even though it didn’t feature any of the original cast or characters.

Kristin Scott Thomas is proud to have starred in classic movies such as Four Weddings and a Funeral.

The actress played Fiona in Richard Curtis’ hit 1994 romantic comedy alongside Hugh Grant, Andie MacDowell, and John Hannah, and she is overjoyed that the movie is still being enjoyed by audiences decades later.

“I’ve made some films – Four Weddings and a Funeral, Gosford Park – that kind of lurk around for decades, and that’s something to be proud of,” Kristin told InStyle, before adding that there are some movies she’s ashamed of, but she will never reveal which ones.

“It’s been a mixture of luck and instinct that has allowed me to do some pretty good projects,” she shared. “And, actually, the past few years have been really interesting career-wise too, starting with The Party, which was a sort of political comedy, and then Darkest Hour, and then Fleabag.”

And Kristin insisted that the roles she’s offered now she’s in her 50s are much better than when she was younger.

“I would say that I’ve hit a sweet spot. Fortunately, as I have got older, the work has got better,” she explained.

Elsewhere in the interview, Kristin revealed that she was “frustrated” with her career as an actress for a long time.

“I felt that being an actress wasn’t particularly useful, and I felt frustrated by it. I would think, ‘What’s the point of doing this all?’ But I’m beginning to see the point now,” she stated, noting that movies can positively affect audiences, which in turn, gives her acting career meaning.

“When you realise that the work we do in the theatre or in the movies can have an influence on the way people behave with each other and how people think about things, even in a small way, that gives you purpose,” the 59-year-old added.

Dior has incited a call for female solidarity with its latest fashion collection.

Creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri unveiled her fall/winter 2020 line at the Jardin des Tuileries as part of Paris Fashion Week on Tuesday, with the presentation attracting celebrities such as Sigourney Weaver, Andie MacDowell, Cara Delevingne, Demi Moore, Nina Dobrev, Rachel Brosnahan, Karlie Kloss, and Alexa Chung.

The entrance to the space was decorated with a sign featuring the ambiguous phrase “I Say I”, a reference to the work of collective feminist artist Claire Fontaine as well as the introduction to the manifesto of art critic-turned-feminist activist Carla Lonzi. In addition, illuminated signs with slogans such as “Consent,” “Women’s Love is Unpaid Labour,” “Women are the Moon that Moves the Tides,” and “Patriarchy Kills Love,” were installed in the venue.

“They are the symbol of a joyful singularity, as well as a creative and collective way of approaching the multiple aspects of feminine subjectivity – and the infinite project that femininity represents,” a Dior representative explained of the concept.

To begin, the spectacle kicked off with model Ruth Bell walking the runway in a black suit, white shirt, black tie, fishnet tights, and Mary Jane-style flats.

A number of black outfits followed, with the looks toughened up via the addition of bandanas, tights, and combat boots. Elsewhere, a ’70s vibe was evident in long, embroidered dresses, miniskirts, and pleats and fringe detailing, while Chiuri also drew upon former creative director Marc Bohan’s use of check fabric in his designs during his 30-year-old stint at the French house, as well as founder Christian Dior’s love of the fabric.

To conclude, the designer offered up a selection of chic separates, with highlights including striped metallic gowns, Grecian-inspired dresses with finely pleated skirts and drapery, as well as relaxed takes on classic menswear tailoring and suits.

The iconic supermodel wowed the crowd, which included models Kate Moss, Eva Herzigova, Cindy Crawford, and Amber Valletta as well as celebrities like Salma Hayek, Rami Malek, Andie MacDowell, and Ezra Miller, as she closed creative director Anthony Vaccarello’s latest presentation.

She strutted down the long runway in front of the Eiffel Tower wearing a black sequinned blazer jacket and matching trousers – a nod to the French fashion house’s famous Le Smoking suit – and black pointed ankle strap pumps with gold tips.

The 49-year-old shared footage of herself walking in the shimmering suit and wrote on Instagram, “Closing @ysl Spring Summer 2020 tonight was an honour! Thank you @anthonyvaccarello & @pg_dmcasting.”

Naomi had hinted at her appearance earlier in the day by sharing throwback footage of herself walking the YSL runway for the Couture Spring 2002 show and another snap of herself on the runway with Yves Saint Laurent himself.

“Mr. Yves Saint Laurent, you believed in me and stood by my side when I needed it most! Grateful for you and for all the memories we’ve made together over the years. Kind-hearted, creative genius and fashion visionary! We miss you dearly,” she wrote in the caption.

The show marked Naomi’s first appearance for a fashion house for spring/summer 2020. Earlier this month, she walked the runway for her annual charity event, Fashion for Relief, during London Fashion Week.

For his spring/summer 2020 collection, Vaccarello channelled rocker chic, festival style, and bohemian looks, with the collection featuring gold paisley embroidered dresses, chiffon blouses, and peasant-style smocks.

The models, which included Kaia Gerber and Stella Tennant, also donned micro shorts, cut-off jeans, waistcoats, cowboy boots, and tuxedo ensembles.

Helen Mirren has traded in her silver hair for a new pink hue.

The British Dame unveiled the fun colour at The Best Years of a Life premiere at the Cannes Film Festival over the weekend.

The pink tinge matched her floor-sweeping, rose gold Elie Saab dress and Chopard jewellery perfectly. The gown, shown at the label’s couture spring/ summer 19 show, features sequin detailing and a cinched-in waist, as well as draping to reveal one shoulder.

The dye job was only temporary though, as Helen was back to her silver roots for the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s Philanthropic party in the French city on Sunday night.

Other stars to shine on the red carpet at the screening of the French language film included Andie MacDowell, Priyanka Chopra, Iskra Lawrence, Monica Bellucci, Toni Garrn and Martha Hunt.

Andie, who starred alongside Helen in 2001 TV movie On the Edge, went for a structured one-shoulder white top and teamed the garment with a pair of wide-legged grey trousers. The pair happily posed together for waiting snappers, with both blowing kisses to the camera.

Priyanka upped the glam factor in a tiered white Georges Hobeika gown, which was reminiscent of a wedding dress. Her husband Nick Jonas joined her at the premiere, donning an all-white suit.

Plus-size model and L’Oreal ambassador Iskra wore a custom-made red sequinned number by Valdrin Sahiti, Monica was dressed by Dior in a plunging black dress with a statement alligator necklace, Toni went for a structured purple and a burgundy and violet asymmetric silk Ralph & Russo design, while Martha glowed in a gold mini dress.

Actress Andie MacDowell’s life long dedication to her fitness routine has helped her stay in shape as she approaches 60.

The Sex, Lies and Videotape star will hit the age milestone on 21 April (18) but she continues to maintain a youthful glow by staying committed to a varied and fun daily exercise regime, which she insists helps her to take care of her physical and emotional state.

“I think about longevity, and I take care of myself,” she tells the New York Post, revealing her cholesterol, in particular, is in tip top shape. “I advocate nine hours of sleep. (I) do yoga (and) hike every day.”

The L’Oreal spokeswoman also rides horses as a form of meditation.

“It’s soothing and calming (and) it lowers your cortisol levels,” she shares. “It’s good for everything. Being around animals in general is really comforting.”

The brunette beauty, who also starred in the films Four Weddings and a Funeral and Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes, also maintains a healthy diet specifically tailored to her wellness needs.

“I stay hydrated. Drink lots of water. Juice daily with fresh lemon and celery,” she says. “I’m O-positive so I can and do eat meat. I stay size 4-to-6. I watch my interior life and well-being. And I feel good about myself.”

MacDowell’s all-over body confidence helped her prepare for her latest role in the film Love After Love, in which she appears nude onscreen for the first time in her lengthy career.

The actress had few reservations when it came to stripping off in front of the drama’s cast and crew.

“I didn’t care who was there,” she reveals. “I felt no shame.”
