Vivienne Westwood has designed a new edgy collection for Vans.
The British icon has put her punk spin on the classic skateboarding-inspired shoes by using her archive prints and graphics for the Vans x Vivienne Westwood Anglomania collection, which features six distinctive styles.
Her Sk8-Hi shoe is made from a natural vegetable-dyed tan leather and features embossed markings of a handwritten letter sent from America to Westwood’s flagship store in London, complete with a printed postage stamp listing the collaboration’s launch date.
The Sk8-Hi Platform has a tan buckled strap and is inspired by the 78-year-old designer’s pirate boot, which she first debuted back in 1981 as part of her now-iconic Pirate collection.
The Checkerboard slip-on features Westwood’s Destroy graphic from 1977, while her Authentic style is adorned with the signature orb and lightning bolt print from Westwood’s archive.
Vans x Vivienne Westwood Anglomania will debut on 20 September in selected Vans stores and Vivienne Westwood boutiques, and also online at vans.com and viviennewestwood.com.
Earlier this month, Westwood teased the upcoming collaboration on Instagram and posted a picture of a checkerboard which was covered with the designer’s punk-style neon lettering. “#VansxVivienneWestwood is coming soon,” the post read.
It isn’t the first time that Westwood has combined her designs with sneakers, as she previously collaborated with sports brand ASICS to rework their classic styles.
The punk icon began designing clothes alongside Sex Pistols’ manager Malcolm McLaren in the 1960s and 1970s and presented her first runway show in London in 1981.

Vivienne Westwood has teased a sneaker collaboration with Japanese sports brand Asics.
The British fashion house revealed plans for the capsule collection in an Instagram post on Tuesday (26Feb19), alongside a picture of one of the pieces from the line.
The image featured a patterned red and white Gel-Mai sneaker teamed with pink striped socks.
Captioning the post, the brand detailed the “exclusive” collaboration.
“#VivienneWestwood and established true sport performance brand #asics have come together to create an exclusive capsule collection of limited edition styles,” brand reps wrote.
The limited edition collection is set to feature pieces from both Asics and Asics Tiger, with styles set to be released over the course of the year.
The first two styles from the collaborative line will launch towards the end of April.
The sneakers will be available exclusively from Vivienne Westwood and Asics stores worldwide, and online at each brand’s respective websites.
In the post, the fashion label went on to highlight both brands’ history of innovation at the forefront of fashion.
“Both ASICS and Vivienne Westwood share a long brand history of design and championed uniqueness – with quality, craftsmanship and innovation at their core,” they continued. “This shared history and distinction to transcend the ordinary brought about this timely collaboration.”
Westwood is the latest in a series of high-fashion labels to team up with a beloved comfort and performance brands.

Steve Aoki has landed the role of watch ambassador for Diesel.
The electronic dance music (EDM) producer and DJ is known for his signature edgy style and long hair, which he shows off in the imagery for Diesel’s new transparency watch collection.
“I’m constantly looking for ways to create and collaborate on unique and one-of-a-kind material, musically and artistically, whether it be through different brand collaborations, through my lifestyle and fashion brand Dim Mak or expanding my art collection,” Aoki said in a statement. “My mind is always on overdrive, which allows me to develop my brand through various channels.
“(The watch design) was orchestrated with my influence in mind, the clashing features and futuristic design of Diesel watches very much aligns with my style and aesthetics, on and off the stage.”
Andrea Rosso, creative director of licenses for Diesel and son of founder Renzo Rosso, added that Aoki was the perfect fit for the fashion house.
“His style and his sense of aesthetic perfectly match the design and the clashing features of this watch, together with its new futuristic approach based on transparency,” Rosso said.
There are four watches in the blue transparency line, which have been inspired by the indigo dyeing of jeans and are all on sale now. Prices range from $140 (£108) to $240 (£186).
As well as his Dim Mak line, which became a part of the New York Fashion Week: Men’s schedule in 2017, Aoki has also previously teamed with sports brand Asics and co-owns streetwear brand Vision Street Wear.
