Barbara Palvin was “very disappointed” when she heard the 2019 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show had been cancelled.

The Hungarian model was first cast in one of the U.S. lingerie brand’s presentations back in 2012 but didn’t appear in a show again until the 2018 event.

Earlier this year, Victoria’s Secret bosses promoted Barbara to Angel status, and in a new interview with U.K. Harper’s Bazaar, she explained that she was a little sad to learn the annual show had been canned as it would have been the first time she was able to wear her angel wings.

“I was very disappointed,” the 26-year-old told the publication, before adding: “But (the company leaders) know what they’re doing, and I trust the process. I feel like the world is changing around us, and everyone needs to go with it, and that’s their way of doing it.”

After months of speculation about the future of the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, executives at L Brands, the label’s parent company, announced last month that the event will not happen this year.

In recent years, Victoria’s Secret has been hit by the growth of contemporary underwear labels like Third Love, Aerie, and Rihanna’s Savage X Fenty, while bosses have also been accused of failing to embrace diversity and inclusivity in its marketing imagery and shows.

And during a recent chat on the TODAY Show, former Victoria’s Secret Angel Karlie Kloss argued that it is time for the brand to undergo a major transformation.

“I think it’s a reflection of the world we live in today,” she said of the cancellation. “And, you know, consumers demand that brands are inclusive and body positive and sustainable. And I think brands have to evolve.”

Barbara Palvin: ‘Fashion doesn’t excite me’

Barbara Palvin considers fashion her job, not a personal interest.

The Victoria’s Secret Angel and Sports Illustrated model was discovered in Budapest at the age of 13, and four years later, she made her Milan Fashion Week debut for Prada.

She’s since walked for the likes of Louis Vuitton, Vivienne Westwood, and Chanel, and has landed high-profile campaigns for H&M, Armani Exchange and L’Oreal Paris.

However, the 25-year-old considers fashion her job, not a personal interest, and told Fashionista she would rather wear clothes from the closet of her boyfriend, actor Dylan Sprouse.

“I’ve definitely learned a few things through 13 years of work, but fashion still doesn’t really excite me,” she candidly shared. “Sometimes when Dylan gets some stuff, I take it.”

She also revealed she is bored by shopping, and because she tries on so many clothes during photoshoots, she thinks of buying clothes as a chore.

“When I go shopping, I know what I need and I’ll just go into one or two stores. When I’m shopping, I feel like I’m working. I prefer to not even try things on. I’m just like, ‘that should look good’ and I’ll take it,” Barbara stated.

The Hungarian beauty lives in Brooklyn, New York, with former child star Dylan, and prefers simple styles and comfortable clothing.

“It doesn’t matter the brand. If it feels right on my body, I’ll take it. I usually go for something comfortable, casual but still sexy. The more simple it is, the sexier it looks,” she explained.

Despite walking for high-fashion houses on catwalks around the world, Palvin feels like an “outsider” in upscale luxury stores.

“New York is closer to my style than Paris. Paris can be too chic for me. New York has a little edginess, but still can be classy. I do love Chinatown and Brooklyn, like little stores. I don’t like to go to the rich area. I can’t do that. I feel like an outsider there,” she added.

Halima Aden screamed for 10 minutes when she heard she was being featured in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue.

The Muslim model’s historic casting became public knowledge last month, and now her issue has officially dropped.

Tyra Banks made her return to modelling by covering the famous issue, with U.S. soccer star Alex Morgan and model Camille Kostek gracing two alternative covers.

Talking on People Now, Halima revealed she didn’t hold back when she heard the news

“I just screamed for 10 minutes straight. And then it was like OK this is happening, I went back and stalked Barbara (Palvin)’s to see how she posed,” Halima smiled, referencing model Barbara who was also on the show.

“It’s my first year, I still can’t believe it. I’m just all the feels. I’m just so grateful SI featured me as the first hijab-wearing burkini-wearing girl to make a debut.”

Admitting she kept “hush-hush” about the job until the official announcement was made, 21-year-old Halima, who was born in a refugee camp in Kenya to Somali parents, was anxious about what her mother would make of the news.

“I was super nervous about my mom and what she would say, but then it was amazing,” she grinned, joking that her mom’s reaction was “could have posed a little better”.

Hungarian beauty Barbara added that her mother is also her biggest critic.

She also spoke about what it’s like to be back in the Swimsuit Issue for a fourth time

“I was definitely more nervous the first year – I was younger so I just tried to be sexy. I feel like now I’m more confident and more grown up so you can see an actual grown up,” the 25-year-old shared.

Grace Elizabeth can’t quite believe she is the latest model to get Angel wings at Victoria’s Secret.

The rising fashion star kicked off her career in 2015 with campaigns for the likes of Guess and Polo Ralph Lauren and has since gone on to land coveted gigs for Chanel, Karl Lagerfeld, and Estee Lauder.

Grace made her debut appearance at a Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show in 2016, and on Wednesday (10Apr19) was announced as the brand’s new Angel – with the model now describing her colleagues at the U.S. lingerie label as an “incredible family”.

“This almost feels unreal, I’ve been pinching myself all morning! Since the moment I entered the modelling world my goal was to work with Victoria’s Secret. Today I am proud to announce I am… (drumroll please) THE NEWEST ANGEL!!!” she wrote on her Instagram page. “I can’t even express how grateful I am to all of my family, friends, and fans for your constant support and belief in me. You guys have been the biggest force behind my journey. I’m so excited for this next chapter in my life and in my career. Thank you, Ed Razek, Monica Mitro, John Pfeifer, Sophia Neophitou, and Michelle Priano, for welcoming me with open arms to this incredible family. I love you all.”

Following the retirement of longtime Victoria’s Secret Angels like Adriana Lima and Alessandra Ambrosio, executives at the company have contracted new faces for the prestigious gig, with Hungarian model Barbara Palvin and British stars Leomie Anderson and Alexina Graham also recently tapped.

And now that Grace has accomplished her dream of becoming a Victoria’s Secret Angel, she has set her sights on another of her goals.

“I’m ambitious!” the 22-year-old shared in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar. “I’d love to do a Jimmy Fallon appearance, book more fashion magazine covers and campaigns and maybe in the future even try acting…basically, all of it!”

Model Grace Elizabeth has scored her wings as the latest Victoria’s Secret Angel.

The 22 year old, who first graced the runway for the lingerie brand in 2016, joins Barbara Palvin, Alexina Graham, and Leomie Anderson among the new crop of Angels.

Recalling her first Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show in Paris, Grace reveals she was “freaking out” before her catwalk debut and almost had a panic attack.

“When I first walked out, I passed by Bruno Mars and I was like, ‘Hey’, and then I turned the corner and the first people I saw were my parents,” she says. “It was very emotional.”

And she reveals she’s picking up impressionable young fans, who only know her through her Instagram account: “Normally the younger girls that see me come up and are like, ‘Are you Lovegrace_e?’ It’s like a secret name. I’m like, ‘Yep, that’ll be me!'”

In her new Angel announcement video, posted online on Wednesday (10Apr19), Grace also reveals boxing and Pilates keep her fit and trim, while yoga helps her “zen out”.

The confident Florida native ends the video by stating, “I am up next!”

“I was in Tulum, Mexico on vacation laying by the beach when I got the exciting news,” she recalls of the big Angel news. “I told my mother. She had already seen the email come through and was counting down the minutes until I called her. I called her as soon as I saw and she answered, ‘Hello, is this my angel?'”

Grace has been a longtime Victoria’s Secret favourite and served as a spokesmodel for the brand’s PINK collection.

She signed to Next Models at 16 and went on to book jobs with Guess and Polo Ralph Lauren. She has also walked the international runways for Ralph Lauren, Max Mara and Chanel.

Leomie Anderson is the latest model to get Angel wings at Victoria’s Secret.

The London-born fashion star, who has modelled for the likes of Jeremy Scott, Tom Ford, and Vivienne Westwood, first walked in a Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show in 2015.

Leomie has since gone on to appear in all subsequent spectacles, and on Thursday (04Apr19), a spokesperson for the U.S. lingerie giant announced that she had achieved Angel status.

“Congrats to our NEW Angel, @leomieanderson! Can’t wait to see you work those WINGS!” a representative wrote alongside a snap of Leomie on Instagram.

Following the retirement of long-time Victoria’s Secret Angels like Adriana Lima and Alessandra Ambrosio, executives at the company have contracted new faces for the prestigious gig, with Hungarian model Barbara Palvin and English beauty Alexina Graham also recently tapped.

And taking to social media to express her excitement, Leomie explained that she was still “in shock” over the news.

“This is something I was even scared to dream about because I never thought it would come true, but I am insanely excited to announce that I am Victoria’s Secret’s newest ANGEL!! I can’t even believe it,” the 26-year-old wrote.

In addition to modelling, Leomie is known for her popular videos, with her posts including everything from make-up tutorials to travel diaries. After being asked by a follower to speak on the pressures young girls are under in society, she was also inspired to found LAPP The Brand in 2016, a clothing line and platform in which women are encouraged to share their stories.

English beauty Alexina Graham is the latest model to get Angel wings at Victoria’s Secret.

Following on from the news that Barbara Palvin is joining the Angel ranks, flame-haired star Alexina has shared her excitement that she is also being welcomed into the fold at the U.S. lingerie label.

“This is insane!! What a dream come true!” the 29-year-old gushed on Instagram. “Never in my wildest imagination did I think that this would become my reality. Angel Status?!?! WOW. Thank you Victoria’s Secret for believing in this Red Head, I am so honoured to be part of the @victoriassecret family. Can’t wait for what’s to come.”

She first walked in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show in 2017, and once again took to the runway for the 2018 spectacle.

Alexina has also previously worked with Balmain, Emporio Armani and Jean-Paul Gaultier, as well as posing for the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue.

However, in an interview with Glamour magazine, the model recalled how she was picked on as a child because of her naturally red hair.

“Like most redheads, I did get bullied at school because we just stand out,” she stated. “It took me a long time to get here, I have gone through so much in the last 10 years both in terms of my career and my life… this is a ‘two fingers up at my bullies’ moment.”

Alexina and Barbara fill the spaces left behind by Victoria’s Secret icons Alessandra Ambrosio and Adriana Lima, who retired in 2017 and 2018, respectively.

While the news has gone down well with fans, some have reacted angrily that slim Barbara has been labelled plus-size by Facebook account Superficial Doll, who posted that the Hungarian star is “finally the first plus-size Victoria’s Secret Angel”.

Adriana Lima has gushed that she’s “so happy” for Barbara Palvin, after she was announced as the next Victoria’s Secret Angel.

The 25-year-old Hungarian beauty was enlisted by the lingerie line following Adriana’s decision to leave the brand after 20 years.

And Adriana couldn’t be happier that her former colleague has officially received her wings.

“Barbara, I’m so happy that you have joined Victoria’s Secret. We have been working for so many years together and you deserve (it). Congratulations!” she told Entertainment Tonight (ET).

Barbara made her debut for the company back in 2012 and appeared again in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show last year (18).

After her new gig was announced, Barbara wrote on Instagram: “I don’t know where to begin but I’ll try. I never thought it would happen and it has exceeded all my expectations. I’m very excited to announce that I’m officially a @victoriassecret ANGEL!

“Thank you for believing in me. There were times where I let my own thoughts hold me back and it was a hard climb away from those but my family, my team… and everyone at VS they were always there to support me and uplift me. I am proud to represent Hungary, and most importantly, all of you in this new chapter of my life! Thank you all so much again.”

Now she’s left her Victoria’s Secret days behind her, Adriana is looking to her future – and she’s got some big plans.

As she spoke to ET back in December, following the broadcast of her final runway show for the company, Adriana teased: “For my future, I plan to be involved and supporting women in different projects. So let’s see what else is out there. I have a few tricks and other talents that you haven’t seen yet!”

Proud of all the work you’ve done leading up to this and here’s to more years of success and a little less Ben and Jerry’s ice cream.”

She replaces Adriana Lima, who walked her last Victoria’s Secret runway in November, 2018, after 20 years with the brand.

Robyn Lawley slams Victoria’s Secret over lack of curvy models

Robyn Lawley has criticised Victoria’s Secret for not hiring any plus-size models.

An association with the American lingerie brand has helped stars such as Candice Swanepoel, Lily Aldridge and Sara Sampaio become some of the most sought-after names in the business, and as a result, walking in the annual Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show is considered a career goal by many of today’s models.

However, plus-size model Robyn is not a fan of the label, believing that it excludes “curvy girls”.

“I hate Victoria’s Secret,” the 29-year-old commented in an interview with Australian current affairs programme The Sunday Project, which aired on Sunday night (09Sep18). “If they don’t use a curvy girl (in the show) this year, I’d be shocked. And if they don’t, just don’t buy their stuff.”

On Friday, it was announced that Winnie Harlow would be walking in the fashion show for the first time, while the likes of Barbara Palvin, Leomie Anderson and Devon Windsor would be returning to the prestigious catwalk later this year.

Though Victoria’s Secret bosses have yet to confirm any “curvy” models for the spectacle, Robyn is encouraged to see that many other brands are embracing a more diverse line-up.

“I think the fashion world has to wake up. And I think they are, very slowly,” said the star, who was the first plus-size model to be featured in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue.

She also admitted that she often feels insecure after seeing images of perfect-looking women on social media, and opened up regarding her decision not to have corrective surgery on the facial scar she suffered after falling down a staircase in her New York home.

“I was like if the fashion world doesn’t accept me back, I’ll focus on bigger more important things,” Robyn affirmed.
