Betsey Johnson has confirmed her memoir will be released in April 2020.
The designer, who opened her first boutique in 1969, is known for her feminine and whimsical garments, as well as for doing cartwheels at her fashion shows.
Johnson announced that she was nearly ready to unveil her book back in October, and taking to Twitter recently, she shared that the memoir will hit shelves on 7 April.
“Can’t wait for you to read my memoir! It’s coming soon and I hope you all love it!” she wrote, adding a link to a website for pre-sales.
Simply titled BETSEY, Johnson’s memoir will delve into her childhood in Connecticut, her memories of the fashion scene in the ’60s, the ups and downs of her business, and the time she was forced to file for bankruptcy.
“Throughout her decades-long career, she’s taken pride in producing fun but rule-breaking clothing at an accessible price point. What they might not know is that she built an empire from scratch, and brought stretch clothing to the masses in the ’80s and ’90s,” a spokesperson for publishers Penguin Random House commented of the book.
The memoir, co-written with the 77-year-old’s longtime friend Mark Vitulano, will also share the fashion star’s thoughts on body image, love, divorce, men, and motherhood, as well as her health scares, including a battle with breast cancer and major heart surgery in April.
BETSEY will be illustrated with many of Johnson’s landmark clothes, fashion sketches, and personal photos.
