Adam Shankman has signed on to direct Hocus Pocus 2.

The 55-year-old filmmaker will helm the sequel to the 1993 cult classic, which starred Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy, for Disney’s streaming service, Disney+.

Shankman is currently in pre-production on Disenchanted, a sequel to Disney’s 2007 hit Enchanted, with Amy Adams set to reprise her role as Giselle.

The director confirmed Variety’s report by sharing close-ups of the front pages of two scripts, which had the titles “Disenchanted (Enchanted Two)” and “Hocus Pocus 2”, on Instagram.

“Yep….Thanks with all of my heart dear @disney,” he wrote in the caption. “Looks like Il be working on a looooooottttt of magic for awhile (sic)… I feel incredibly honored and humbled to be guiding forward these two Disney crown jewel legacies. My only hope is to honor those who came before me and build something new and exciting, as I desperately try to not let down the fans and enchant the new initiates! Fingers crossed!”

His celebrity friends celebrated the news in the comments, with Jenna Dewan, who he worked with on Step Up, writing, “Adam…..!! This is amazing!”, Vanessa Hudgens posting, “I’m dead. Hocus pocus is my favorite movie,” and his Hairspray star Brittany Snow adding, “Oh. My. God.”

Singer-songwriter Ryan Tedder and Schitt’s Creek star Dan Levy both asked to be cast in Hocus Pocus 2, which has been written by Jen D’Angelo.

Midler, Parker and Najimy are not attached to star in the sequel, but sources have told Variety that Disney officials are hopeful they will reprise their roles as witches Winifred, Sarah and Mary Sanderson in some capacity.

When Hocus Pocus, which was directed by Kenny Ortega, was first released, the comedy horror was not a huge box office success, raking in just $39 million (£30 million), but it has since gained a cult following, with it frequently airing on TV, particularly during the Halloween period.

Goldie Hawn, Bette Midler, and Diane Keaton are reuniting for upcoming movie, Family Jewels.

The movie is set to be a multi-generational comedy that follows three women forced to spend Christmas together, along with their kids and grandchildren, after the man they were once married to drops dead in a New York City department store.

Screenwriter Peter Hoare penned the script, with Brian Oliver, Bradley Fischer, and Alan Nevins to produce, and Tracey Nyberg to serve as executive producer.

“The chemistry of Diane, Bette, and Goldie is unmatched and irresistible, and I’m thrilled to help reunite them on screen for generations of fans,” Fischer said in a statement.

Production is set to start this year. However, a release date has not yet been confirmed.

Nevins added that he and Fischer had been desperately vying for the Brooklyn-based writer for months.

“Brad and I always wanted Peter for this project but he was constantly busy,” he noted. “To our great joy, after the Cannes sale, we were able to get the three of us united. I, and the public, have waited many years for these three ladies to star in another film together.”

The movie will be the first time Hawn, Midler, and Keaton have worked together since the much-loved 1996 comedy, The First Wives Club. In the film, the trio played three ex-wives, who were dumped by their husbands for younger women.

Hoare is in-demand in Hollywood at the moment after a successful stint pitching his film, Down Under Cover – set to star Chris Hemsworth and Tiffany Haddish – at the Cannes Film Festival in May last year.

Paramount executives picked up the flick, which sees a detective and a police officer team up to investigate a string of robberies.

A sequel to Halloween cult classic Hocus Pocus is in development.

The original Hocus Pocus starred Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy as the Sanderson sisters, a group of witches who are inadvertently resurrected in Salem, Massachusetts. Directed by Kenny Ortega, the film was not a box office success when it was released in 1993 but it has become something of a cult classic and is annually aired on TV around Halloween.

According to Collider, executives at Disney are now attempting to develop a Hocus Pocus project for their upcoming streaming platform Disney+, which launches in November.

Jen D’Angelo, who served as a writer and co-producer on TV show Workaholics, has reportedly been tapped to write the script for the follow-up. It is currently unclear if it will be a straight sequel or more of a spin-off.

Midler, Parker, and Najimy, who played Winifred, Sarah and Mary Sanderson, are not currently attached to the project but sources have told the publication that Disney bosses are hoping D’Angelo will find a way to bring them back in some capacity.

This isn’t the first time a Hocus Pocus project has been in the works. A TV movie remake was put into development for the TV channel Freeform, which is owned by Disney, two years ago. It was to feature a new cast and David Kirschner, a producer on the original movie, was onboard to executive produce, but the project didn’t get off the ground.

During a Reddit chat in 2014, Midler told fans that all the lead actresses were keen to do a sequel.

“I have canvassed the girls and they are willing to do it, but we have no say in it, so if you want a Hocus Pocus 2, ask The Walt Disney Company,” she said, with her co-stars later confirming they were keen too.

They have yet to comment on the latest news.

Top designers have lauded Bob Mackie’s contribution to the fashion business ahead of the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) Fashion Awards.

The 80-year-old is one of the industry’s most prolific fashion designers and costumers, having worked closely with entertainment icons including Joan Rivers, RuPaul, Bette Midler, Diana Ross, Tina Turner, Carol Burnett and Cher.

Mackie is to receive the prestigious Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2019 CFDA awards on 3 June, and in the lead-up to the ceremony, a number of fashion stars have shared their praise for the style pioneer, with Tom Ford describing him as a true influencer.

“Bob Mackie’s work has influenced fashion in a dramatic way, in that many of the body-fitting, seemingly transparent, and heavily beaded gowns that are worn on red carpets today are derivative of his work for stars like Diana Ross and Cher,” he commented in an oral history feature for Vogue.com. “The images of his costumes and gowns for these women have become a part of the landscape of fashion from the ’60s, ’70s, and ’80s, and in my case, become part of my hard drive of references.”

While Gucci creative director Alessandro Michele spoke about how he met the “guru” at the 2019 camp-themed Met Gala and gushed over the designer’s role in shaping Hollywood careers.

“You have to put energy inside clothes; Bob’s creations made impetuous energy of great artists and through his clothes, the artists were able to magnify their talent. Bob Mackie sanctified the voice and the attitudes of the rock stars who are the gods of the 20th century,” he insisted.

Elsewhere, Mackie’s longtime client Burnett noted that the designer always had a vision for an entire look, including wigs, make-up and accessories, while Cher noted that he is a “perfectionist” when it comes to fit.

In addition, ’90s supermodel Shalom Harlow, who wore a Mackie ensemble to the 2009 Met Gala, shared that it’s not possible to be a “shy wallflower” in one of his creations.

Bette Midler is poised to add her star power to a new biopic based on the life of feminist icon Gloria Steinem.

The Hocus Pocus star is in talks to take on the role of Bella Abzug, a lawyer and activist who helped found the National Women’s Political Caucus and went on to become a U.S. Representative.

Director Julie Taymor shared the news of Midler’s negotiations as she shopped the forthcoming movie to studio officials at the American Film Market’s buyer presentation on Wednesday (31Oct18), reports Deadline.com.

If she signs on, Bette will join a cast led by Julianne Moore as Steinem, while The Danish Girl star Alicia Vikander has been tapped to play a younger version of the legendary activist between the ages of 20 and 40.

Taymor is reportedly still on the hunt for two more actresses to portray Steinem as a child and as a teenager.

The movie, now titled The Glorias: A Life On The Road, is based on Steinem’s own memoir, My Life on the Road, and was adapted for the big screen by Taymor and playwright Sarah Ruhl.

The filmmaker will also produce the project, for which Steinem will serve as an executive producer.

Production is expected to begin in Savannah, Georgia in January (19).

Midler has scaled back her screen work in recent years to focus on her theatre work, but returned to the movie industry in 2017’s Freak Show, directed by Trudie Styler, for her first film since 2012 comedy Parental Guidance.

She is currently lending her voice to an animated version of The Addams Family, due for a Halloween 2019 release, and will soon begin work on another comedy, The Tale of the Allergist’s Wife, alongside Sharon Stone.

Bette Midler’s 1993 witch movie Hocus Pocus has topped a new list of Halloween films fans will be streaming on All Hallow’s Eve (31Oct18).

FandangoNOW asked film fans to list the flicks available on the site they’ll be watching after they’ve been trick or treating on Wednesday, and Hocus Pocus has beaten out The Nightmare Before Christmas and Beetlejuice for the top spot.

The film, which also starred Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy as witch sisters brought back from the dead and seeking mischief in 1990s Salem, Massachusetts, is currently celebrating its 25th anniversary, and the stars recently teamed up for a TV party event, hosted by Vanessa Hudgens.

According to the FandangoNOW survey, among those fans who voted for Hocus Pocus, 96 per cent have seen the film multiple times as part of an annual Halloween tradition; 86 per cent are Bette Midler fans; 73 per cent cannot wait for a sequel or remake; 72 per cent want to introduce it to their kids or friends, and 69 per cent know the dialogue by heart.

“For an entire generation, Hocus Pocus embodies the spirit of the Halloween holiday,” says Fandango Managing Editor Erik Davis. “It’s one of the few Halloween movies that works for the entire family and reminds you of your timeless childhood memories.”

Tim Burton films The Nightmare Before Christmas and Beetlejuice round out the top three, while last year’s horror hit It and the original Halloween movie complete the top five. The Shining, A Quiet Place, Edward Scissorhands, Psycho, and Practical Magic also make up the top 10.

Michael Kors has divulged his “crazy” plans for Halloween during a chat with Vogue.

The designer is the latest star to appear in the U.S. fashion publication’s 73 Questions video series, in which celebrities are challenged to answer rapid-fire questions in under 10 minutes.

During the clip, Michael is seen walking through his New York apartment, when his pal Bette Midler calls, causing him to ask if the actress has any important questions for him.

“Okay, here’s a question, what are you going to come as for Hulaween (her Halloween party) this year?” she posed.

“I was thinking this year I wanna do something crazy. Maybe kind of an earthy spaceman, what do you think of that?” he replied.

“It’s fabulous but not as good as mine,” she laughed, while Michael responded: “Alright, I know, you’re going to love it, Listen, I love you, but I gotta finish these questions.”

While showing off his luxury home, which he shares with husband Lance LePere and their cats, the 59-year-old explained that he starts the day with iced tea, blackberries, and bialy (a type of bread) – though grilled cheese is his guilty pleasure.

On the entertainment front, Network is his favourite film and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is his top TV pick. Donatella Versace also chose the Rachel Brosnahan-fronted show when she answered Vogue’s 73 questions.

Michael, who showed off his mostly black wardrobe in the video, did insist that he does sometimes wear colour. And he was happy to dish out some fashion advice too.

“Every woman, no matter her shape, needs a pair of black pants that make your a*s look fabulous,” he smiled, adding that his favourite fabric to wear is cotton, but he loves to design using cashmere.

Kim Kardashian will never wear one particular fragrance again because it evokes too many memories.

The reality TV personality has made a splash in the beauty world of late, launching six perfumes, including the new Kimoji Heart scents, under her KKW Beauty company.

While Kim now has a variety of her own fragrances to choose from each day, she has revealed that she still has a strong emotional attachment to Thierry Mugler’s Angel because her father Robert Kardashian, who died of cancer in 2003, used to buy it for her.

“My dad’s thing was that he always bought me fragrance, everywhere he went,” she told Refinery 29. “When he’d travel, he’d come back with fragrance and I collected them in high school. So, it really does evoke a memory.”

Angel, which comes packaged in a blue glass flacon, has base notes of vanilla, chocolate, caramel and patchouli, a heart of fruit and honey as well as a dash of bergamot.

And even though the perfume was Kim’s signature for a long time, she had to retire the scent after her dad bought it for some of his love interests following his divorce from Kim’s mother Kris Jenner.

“With Angel, he started to buy it for all of his girlfriends, too, and they would be really annoying, so I wouldn’t like it anymore. There were maybe two or three (girlfriends). I got so sick of it because it turned into all their fragrances instead of my fragrance. I was like, O.K. I’m done. I can’t wear that anymore,” the 37-year-old shared.

Kim added that she tends to wear her Crystal Gardenia scent on a daily basis, while her husband Kanye West likes to spritz on Yves Saint Laurent’s L’Homme cologne. She has just unveiled the Kimoji Hearts line, which includes a sweet floral named BFF, fruity scent Ride or Die as well as a playful citrus called Bae, and revealed on social media on Thursday that she had sent Bae to some of her “haters” including Taylor Swift, Blac Chyna, Pink, Bette Midler and Chloe Grace Moretz.
