Manolo Blahnik is launching a line of men’s accessories.
The Spanish designer’s luxury footwear is a staple of the fashion world, with celebrity fans including Jennifer Aniston, Blake Lively, Olivia Palermo and Miranda Kerr.
But Manolo is now moving into the men’s market, and after opening his first dedicated men’s store in London’s Burlington Arcade in July (18), he has announced that he is making an accessories range too.
“I think there’s a niche group of people out there that still love beautifully executed things, fabrics, colours,” he told The Telegraph. “I love accessories, which is why I wanted to make them for myself. I sent some crocodile fingerless gloves to Karl Lagerfeld too.”
The collection includes standard and fingerless gloves made from colourful leather or cowhide, pocket squares and scarves.
Made from silk, the squares feature bold patterns and the designer’s initials.
“It’s a small selection, and very specific,” Kristina Blahnik, chief executive officer of Manolo Blahnik, explained to Footwear News. “It’s about creating solid foundations and building layers on top – a sprinkling of newness underpinning the classics.”
Regarding the capsule, Kristina recalled how Manolo simply yelled out the word “accessories” while working on his men’s shoe collection in his studio one day – and the range quickly came together soon after.
And she is adamant that even the most conservative of men are beginning to become more experimental when it comes to outfits.
“Men’s fashion is getting much more explorative, colourful and expressive,” she added.
The Manolo Blahnik men’s accessories line will be sold online and at the brand’s flagship boutique.
