Margot Robbie settled upon her outfit for the 2020 Oscars back in December.

The Australian actress, who was nominated at the awards on Sunday for her role in Bombshell, hit the red carpet in a vintage midnight blue chiffon bustier gown from Chanel, with the number featuring off-the-shoulder statement sleeves and a flowing skirt.

Margot, 29, and her stylist Kate Young were on the hunt for a pre-loved gown from the French fashion house last year, when they stumbled upon the intricate dress in the archives.

“We discovered this ’90s couture gown in Chanel’s archive back in December,” Kate told British Vogue, adding that the dress was a longer version of one that iconic supermodel Claudia Schiffer wore on the catwalk almost 26 years ago. “It’s very similar to the short dress that (Claudia) wore on Karl Lagerfeld’s spring/summer 1994 couture runway, but it was made for a client, so it’s truly unique. It just felt very Margot – it felt cool.”

And the process of borrowing from the Chanel archives made the experience a little bit more special for the pair.

“We know whose dress it was originally because Chanel keeps hand-written books. When I take a dress from the house’s couture archive for Margot to wear, we also have to write in the book who it is for and who is ordering it, which I just think is so cool,” the style guru shared. “For me, it underscores that really, really special clothes have a life that is long and romantic.”

Charlize Theron “instantly fell in love” with the purple Dior gown she wore to the British Academy Film Awards (BAFTAs) on Sunday.

The Oscar-winning actress wowed in a strapless purple couture Dior gown, which featured seamless pleats and a plunging neckline, complemented with a simple black belt.

Charlize’s stylist Leslie Fremar told British Vogue that the Bombshell actress has been trying out different looks throughout awards season and was thrilled to be wearing a classic Old Hollywood design.

“We’ve tried to alter the silhouette, colour and feeling of Charlize’s looks for each red carpet,” she explained. “You don’t see her wear this classic silhouette very often, so we instantly fell in love with it.”

Fremar revealed the mood and timing of the ceremony, which takes place during winter in the U.K., had a huge impact on what type of gown she wanted her client to wear.

“The evening lighting makes the red carpet photographs look so elegant,” she shared. “It’s softer and more beautiful than the bright sunshine at the L.A. ceremonies.

“Maria Grazia Chiuri (Dior’s artistic director) gave Charlize the option of wearing purple or red… The vibrant purple was the standout option, and dictated the silhouette of the traditional Old Hollywood gown.”

And Charlize, who has worked with the iconic French fashion house since 2004, has such a good relationship with the designer that most of the couture pieces created for her need no alteration.

“Maria Grazia’s team has mannequins of Charlize’s body, so when her looks arrive they fit really well,” Fremar explained.

The 44-year-old, who was nominated for Best Actress for her portrayal of Megyn Kelly in Bombshell, finished off her show-stopping look with a 10-carat diamond necklace from Tiffany & Co.

Charlize Theron had a diamond bracelet woven into her hair for the 2020 Screen Actors Guild Awards on Sunday night.

The actress, who was nominated in the Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role category for Bombshell, but lost out to Judy’s Renee Zellweger, looked stunning in a black and silver Givenchy outfit when she stepped out onto the red carpet at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.

But while Charlize’s ensemble garnered lots of attention, it was the Tiffany & Co. diamond tennis bracelet placed on her centre parting that really had fans talking.

“I didn’t have time to do my roots. So, my lovely friend Adir (Abergel, hairstylist) said, ‘Why don’t we throw a Tiffany necklace or bracelet in there,'” she told People at the event.

The bracelet, costing around $15,000 (£11,500), contained approximately three carats worth of diamonds. Charlize also sported large diamond earrings, bracelets, and rings from the luxury brand.

And in a video posted on his Instagram page, celebrity hairstylist Adir shared a close-up of his handiwork, with it appearing that he had braided the 44-year-old’s hair down the middle, before sewing the bracelet in with thread to secure it.

“Thank you, everyone, for the overwhelming love and messages about this futuristic look. Here’s a closer look at how I attached that beautiful @tiffanyandco tennis bracelet. Shiny hair and diamonds can make anyone happy,” he commented.

Other celebrities to opt for lots of sparkle at the 2020 SAG Awards included Jennifer Lopez, who teamed her elegant Georges Hobeika gown with a beautiful diamond necklace from Harry Winston, Reese Witherspoon, who rocked a one-shoulder crystal-studded Celine dress, and Dakota Fanning, who positively sparkled in a heavily sequined seafoam green Valentino creation.

Charlize Theron was overcome with emotion when she watched a video of Megyn Kelly reacting to her portrayal of the news anchor in Bombshell.

The Monster actress played the American journalist in the biographical movie, which she also co-produced, about the sexual harassment scandal surrounding former Fox News CEO Roger Ailes.

Megyn informed investigators she had been one of the victims of late chairman’s inappropriate behaviour before he was fired from his role in 2016, and she recently revealed that watching her real-life story come alive onscreen in Bombshell made her tear up.

“I do wish I had done more, even though I was powerless… what if I had thrown myself on the fire back then?” the former Fox News reporter reflected in a tearful Instagram video last week.

And after watching Megyn’s video confession, Charlize admitted she was “incredibly emotional”.

“I felt that that was an incredibly sincere moment from Megyn,” the 44-year-old told Deadline. “It hit me really deep. I felt something really real in her saying that.”

The Oscar-winning actress explained she was very moved that Megyn acknowledged she may have been able to do more to help fellow victims.

“We (as women) shouldn’t even be in that situation in the first place,” the leading lady declared. “We want more than that. We want a world where that’s not even asked. Where we are not even in that situation where we have to choose what we’re going to do in the first place. And I just don’t think that is too much to ask. I think that is a human right that we should all have.”

Bombshell received three nominations for the upcoming Oscars on Monday, with Charlize earning a Best Actress nod for her role as Megyn and co-star Margot Robbie being recognised in the Best Supporting Actress category.

Charlize Theron needed medical treatment after lowering her voice to play Megyn Kelly in Bombshell proved to be “very stressful” on her vocal cords.

The critically-acclaimed drama chronicles the real-life female Fox News employees who exposed the sexual harassment of CEO Roger Ailes back in 2016, and stars Charlize as the former Fox News reporter.

However, the 44-year-old was so determined to nail her portrayal of Megyn, she was willing to risk her health to get the sound just right.

“It was very stressful on my vocal cords to do Megyn Kelly’s voice in Bombshell,” the Oscar-winning actress told W Magazine for their Best Performances 2020 issue.

“Megyn has a very deep register, and I started having a really hard time. I ended up having to go see a specialist. Poor me,” Charlize quipped.

She also explained that she was more than happy to wear unfashionable nude-coloured tights to play the controversial Fox News reporter, after being told to do so by a fellow Oscar winner.

“Colleen Atwood, our costume designer, has won four Academy Awards, so when she tells me to put the nude hose on, I put the nude hose on,” she laughed.

The South Africa-born star’s dedication to the role has paid off, and her performance earned her nominations for the Golden Globes and the BAFTA Awards.

Charlize, who also produced the movie, is tipped to score her third Oscar nod when the contenders are announced next week.

Bombshell, which also stars Margot Robbie and Nicole Kidman, is now showing in U.S. cinemas.

Charlize Theron had her hair cut and coloured just two hours before walking the red carpet at the 2020 Golden Globes.

The 44-year-old attended the Hollywood event on Sunday wearing a stunning black and green couture dress by Dior, and complemented the look with a fresh trim on her now-iconic pixie cut.

However, her longtime hairstylist Adir Abergel later shared his impressive work on Instagram, revealing that he had very little time to transform Charlize’s platinum blonde to more of a golden hue.

“Golden Globes goddess. Love collaborating with the most amazing team. We got to cut and color and style your hair in less than two hours. Love you @charlizeafrica,” he wrote alongside a picture of the Oscar-winning beauty.

Fans of the actress were quick to comment on Charlize’s new ‘do, with one writing: “Wow wow! In two hours? Reminds me of Twiggy in the ’60s absolutely flawless.”

Another commented: “She’s always hair goals. I’m cutting mine off this week.”

Charlize was up for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama at the annual ceremony for her role as former Fox News reporter Megyn Kelly in Bombshell, but lost out to Renee Zellweger, who scooped the award for her portrayal of Judy Garland in the biopic Judy.

She later presented her That Thing You Do! co-star Tom Hanks with the prestigious Cecil B. DeMille Award.

Meanwhile, Charlize took to Instagram on Tuesday to thank the team at Dior for creating her one-shouldered emerald green dress, which featured an exposed black bustier.

“Oh no! My bra is showing?!” she joked. “Shoutout to my incredible team for making me feel so good for the #GoldenGlobes.”

Margot Robbie studied Reese Witherspoon’s character from Legally Blonde to prepare for her role in Bombshell.

The 29-year-old Australian actress plays the young and enthusiastic Fox News staffer Kayla Pospisil in the new movie, who is a composite character created by screenwriter Charles Randolph to highlight the widespread sexual harassment and abuse conducted by late network chief Roger Ailes.

Margot told Variety that she struggled to understand the conservative character, but was inspired by Reese as Elle Woods from the 2001 comedy, as she was “incredibly smart” but “underestimated because of their looks”, just like Kayla.

“Every day, I’d do the monologue from Legally Blonde,” she added.

The Oscar-nominated actress also did some secret social media sleuthing to further understand her character’s political leanings, and created a fake Twitter account to work out what motivates “young millennial conservative girls”.

“I didn’t understand her to begin with,” she explained to Variety. “But my process is to do a ton of research, consider every single option, know every single situation, scenario, thought and motivation inside and out, so I can step onto set and then let it all go.”

Margot revealed she was urged by Bombshell director Jay Roach to watch footage of Katherine Harris, Florida’s former secretary of state, to perfect her dialect in the movie. The Republican politician became famous during the aftermath of the George W. Bush v. Al Gore presidential election of 2000, and was also played by Laura Dern in Roach’s HBO movie Recount back in 2008.

“I just love the sounds of her vowels – they’re incredible,” Margot shared.

Bombshell, which also stars Charlize Theron and Nicole Kidman, is in cinemas now.

Charlize Theron found it hard to empathise with Megyn Kelly while preparing to play the journalist in Bombshell.

The Oscar-winning actress portrays the former Fox News reporter in the upcoming movie, and she revealed in an interview with Adam Driver for Variety’s Actors on Actors series that she had to work hard to understand Megyn.

When he told Charlize that one of his favourite things about being an actor was because it forces him to “exercise that muscle” of empathy, the 44-year-old agreed, and confessed she struggled to make the journalist likeable.

“This was definitely a reminder for me, at this part of my career, of just going like, ‘That muscle needs to be worked a little harder.’ Megyn Kelly made it really challenging for me,” Charlize explained. “For me, it’s a very personal connection that I have to find with the person that I’m playing, that has to make sense. I have to get to a place where I can actually say to myself, ‘This makes sense to me. I relate. I understand.'”

She went on to add that she understood why many people disliked the Fox News anchor, who has in the past made controversial comments about children wearing blackface, body-shaming, and race relations in the U.S.

“Megyn Kelly can be incredibly polarising. There are things about her that live in the extreme. People either love her or they hate her. And she makes no excuses for that,” Charlize shared. “There’s a part of her that is so amplified – she comes across really abrasive sometimes, and somewhat aggressive and cold. All of these things that are not necessarily qualities that make you want to hug a person.”

Margot Robbie was “pretty rattled” by the time she finished reading the screenplay for Bombshell.

The drama focuses on the female employees of Fox News who made allegations of sexual harassment against chairman and chief executive Roger Ailes in 2016, and the Australian actress plays Kayla Pospisil, a composite character based on the accounts of multiple real women.

The I, Tonya star knew she wanted to be part of the film because of her immediate reaction to Charles Randolph’s script.

“I was pretty rattled by the time I got to the end of the script, to be honest,” she said on The Big Ticket podcast. “And I knew long before I finished the script that I wanted to do it and be a part of it, just because I thought it was important to tell, and be a part of, and support in any way that I can. I hadn’t, for once, thought of the character first. I thought of the content and the messaging before kind of aligning myself with the character. That came next, was starting to understand Kayla.”

It took a while for Robbie to understand the point of view of Kayla, a religious Republican who has long dreamed of working at Fox News, so she took to Twitter to help gain some insight.

“Twitter was extremely helpful. I would follow these young, conservative girls who are very vocal with their beliefs and their political points of view. And that was fascinating because they’re my age,” the 29-year-old explained. “In some ways, we’d have a lot in common. And then, in other ways, I was like, ‘We are living on totally different planets.’”

Robbie was recently nominated for her supporting role at the Screen Actors Guild Awards and Golden Globes.

Bombshell, which also stars Charlize Theron and Nicole Kidman, is in U.S. cinemas now.

Nicole Kidman initially didn’t recognise Charlize Theron following her physical transformation into U.S. newswoman Megyn Kelly on the set of Bombshell.

The film revolves around the real-life female Fox News employees who exposed CEO Roger Ailes’ sexual harassment, and features Theron as Kelly and Kidman as TV journalist Gretchen Carlson.

The Monster star, who also serves as a producer, has heaped praise on the film’s hair and make-up experts for making her look so much like the real deal that her co-star Kidman was left confused.

“It was chaotic, the way we shot it,” Theron recalled on breakfast show Good Morning America. “Jay Roach, the film’s director, wanted to shoot 360 (degrees) at all times, so it felt like a real newsroom, and so we were always scattered (around the set)…, and so I think for a second she (Kidman) just couldn’t put it together that it could be me, and it was from afar.

“But the prosthetic work, the make-up and hair in this film is really top notch. We got to work with incredible people.”

Kelly was not directly involved in the movie, but she appeared to give her approval to Bombshell in an Instagram post after recently viewing the film for the first time.

After insisting she would have made a number of edits if given the opportunity, Kelly admitted reliving the trauma of her past – which she detailed in her 2016 memoir Settle for More – was an “incredibly emotional experience”.

Theron admitted she hasn’t been personally contacted by Kelly, but she is grateful to have had the opportunity to tell part of her story onscreen.

“Of course it must be incredibly emotional to go on this journey again and to rewatch it, so I’m just grateful to all of these women that we have this story,” the Oscar winner shared. “I wish it never happened to them, but I think this story is and will be part of a historical moment that really changes things for women.”
