Tess Holliday regrets letting her body issues prevent her from wearing a swimsuit for 11 years.
While the plus-size model is a body positivity champion nowadays, the 34-year-old confessed in a candid Instagram post that she regretted missing out on “countless moments” with her 13-year-old son Rylee because she couldn’t face baring her body at the beach or the pool.
“I’ve been a Mom for thirteen years, and early on with my oldest son, there were countless moments I missed out on. Why? Because I was too afraid to put a bathing suit on,” Tess wrote alongside a photo and video of her swimming with her three-year-old son Bowie.
“Being seen in public somewhere that I couldn’t hide my fat body in a cardigan was my worst nightmare. I don’t have any photos of me & Rylee at the beach or playing in the pool because I didn’t own a bathing suit from the ages of 13-24,” the model lamented.
However, she’s focused on creating a better example for her sons, and is working on changing her mindset to be more confident about being in a swimsuit.
“Bowie will never know what it’s like to have a mom who doesn’t love her body,” Tess shared.
Telling her followers that every body is a beach body, she urged people to stop using the “toxic diet culture language like ‘beach bodies'”.
“Don’t let fear keep you from enjoying your life, you deserve beautiful experiences, and beautiful photographs to remember them by!” she concluded her positive post.
