Busy Philipps won’t promote products on Instagram if she hasn’t tested them herself.

The Dawson’s Creek actress is known for documenting the ups and down of her life on Instagram Stories, through which she regularly gives her two million followers unfiltered access to unretouched photos and videos.

Thanks to her status as an Instagram celebrity, Busy is often approached by brands to promote their products on her page, but she will only agree to the deal if she has tested the item and approves of it.

“If I haven’t used a product before I always ask (for the brand to) send it because I want to know that the thing I’m going to represent is based in truth,” she explained to DailyMail.com. “I think that one of the reasons why my social media has been successful and why I have been successful is because we have been really picky in terms of the brand deals I choose. I’m just not a person whose interested in lying in order to make money, and I think that the people – mostly women – who follow me fundamentally understand that and get that sense from me.”

The 40-year-old, who is a longtime ambassador for skincare brand Olay, currently stars in the company’s latest marketing imagery alongside comedian Lilly Singh and model Denise Bidot. The campaign is the first to feature the Olay Skin Promise logo, which means the photos have been unretouched, and Busy found the job found empowering.

“For me as a woman who has turned 40, and (has) never done Botox or filler… I have had moments where I’ve seen flawless skin with zero fine lines and thought, “Oh is that what I’m supposed to look like?'” she shared. “Doing this campaign and being involved with Olay has really empowered me to think of my skin as one of my strengths and (to see that) the way it is naturally can be even more beautiful than some thing that’s not real.”

Busy Philipps starring in unretouched Olay campaign

Busy Philipps has appeared unretouched in a campaign for skincare brand Olay.

The actress, a longtime Olay ambassador, stars along comedian Lilly Singh and model Denise Bidot in the American company’s new advertising campaign, the first to be labelled with the “Olay Skin Promise” logo, which indicates that the images have not been airbrushed or retouched.

Speaking to Allure, Busy admitted she was so impressed with her skin in the advertising that she thought she had been retouched.

“I sent an email back that said, ‘I’m confused; I thought we weren’t doing retouching. Could you please send me the unretouched image?'” she recalled. “They were like, ‘That is the unretouched image.’ I’m not afraid to say that I think I look really good!”

The campaign marks the beginning of Olay’s new commitment to stop retouching images throughout all of its advertising by the end of the year, and Busy is thrilled that people will be able to see normal, imperfect faces fronting promotional pictures.

“I think people are so conditioned to see a ‘perfect’ face staring back at them on Instagram,” the Dawson’s Creek star continued. “And the more those (types of retouched) images get out there, the more it reinforces a normal that is not normal.

Busy was particularly pleased to see that her moles, which were often removed digitally from photoshoots early on in her career, remained intact in the Olay imagery.

“My moles are such defining characteristics of my skin – it’s who I am,” she stated. “So to have that message sent to me in the beginning of my career caused a lot of self-doubt.”

The 40-year-old made an appearance on Good Morning America wearing no foundation on Wednesday to promote the Skin Promise pledge, and was excited when she saw her unretouched face advertised on the digital billboards in New York’s Times Square.

Karla Welch was determined for her new collection with retailer Express to “empower” customers.

The Hollywood stylist, who has worked with the likes of Tracee Ellis Ross, Busy Philipps, Elisabeth Moss, and Justin Bieber, has teamed with the fashion brand on a 20-piece capsule collection of everyday basics.

The Express x Karla collection, priced from $19.90 to $128 (£16 – £102), features oversized linen boyfriend blazers, jumpsuits, cropped T-shirts and high-waisted latex miniskirts.

“I actually hate summer dressing, that’s how I went into this. But this is who I am and what I want to wear. I wanted to keep it really limited and small and just what you need,” Welch explained in an interview with WWD. “I want to empower.”

The stylist designed the collection with the Express team at their studio in New York, and also confessed that the pieces are pure nostalgia.

“There’s a bit of Miami Vice and Au Coton from Canada back in the day, and shoulder pads and linen and a neutral palette,” she shared.

The Express x Karla line is now available to buy at select Express stores and online, with a second range set to debut later this year.

Accordingly, Patrice Croci, vice president of brand marketing for Express, noted company bosses were “super excited” about the collaboration, and she teased more upcoming partnerships with influencers and celebrities in the coming months.

“Design collaborations with influencers like Karla have been a brand strategy for us,” she added. “For us, it’s about forming strategic partnerships with inspirational women.”

This isn’t the first time that Welch has made a foray into designing. She has launched her own label, named xkarla, and collaborated with Hanes on a collection of white T-shirts. She also created more than 60 custom pieces for Bieber’s Believe world tour back in 2012 and again for his Purpose tour in 2016.

Busy Philipps discovered a workout routine she loves after being told to lose weight for a role.

The actress opened up about the experience in an interview with People magazine, in which she recalled producers informing her she was not going to be cast in a project unless she slimmed down. Though she found the ordeal troubling, it pushed her to adopt a healthier lifestyle.

“In the early 2000s, I was asked to lose weight for a part, which is not an uncommon thing that happens in Hollywood,” she said. “Although, maybe it’s getting better now, I don’t know. I hope so, for young actors starting out. But I was told to lose weight for a part, and they sent me to (celebrity trainer) Gunnar Peterson, and he showed me a way into fitness by introducing me to spin classes, showing me the workouts, all that stuff.”

Being introduced to the celebrity trainer’s workouts led her to find out how much she could enjoy fitness.

“I think people do that, I think you do, you make that decision. You’re like, ‘Oh, I’m not interested in that,’” the Cougar Town star added. “And finding it organically has been incredible for me, but I was like, told I had to, right? So for people who aren’t told they have to, I would just say to be open to the possibility.”

Today, the 39-year-old makes sure to inspire her daughters Birdie and Cricket to have fun while exercising.

“My girls have a different experience because their dad (husband Marc Silverstein) goes to spin class always every day, they know that. I do my workout every morning, they know that,” she said. “I feel like modelling behaviour for younger generations is so important, and that’s part of the reason why I post my workouts on the (Instagram) stories.”

Dolly Parton always sleeps with her make-up on in case of an emergency during the night.

The Hollywood superstar is never seen in public without her signature blonde locks perfectly coiffed and a full face of cosmetics. However, Dolly has now shared that she goes to bed with her make-up on, especially when travelling out of town.

“I clean my face in the mornings,” she commented in an interview with The New York Times. “You never know if you’re going to wreck the bus, you never know if you’re going to be somewhere in a hotel and there’s going to be a fire. So, I leave my make-up on at night and clean my face in the morning.”

In the chat, Dolly also discussed the new Wildwood Grove extension of her Dollywood theme park in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.

But the Jolene singer has yet to go on any of the rides, mostly because she’s worried about messing up her hair or outfit.

“I don’t ride the rides. I never have. I have a tendency to get motion sickness. Also, I’m a little bit chicken. With all my hair I got so much to lose, like my wig or my shoes. I don’t like to get messed up. I’m gonna have some handsome man mess it up, I don’t want some ride doing it,” the 73-year-old laughed.

While most dermatologists agree it is best for skin health to remove all make-up before hitting the hay, Dolly isn’t the only celebrity to follow in her footsteps.

Last year, Kim Kardashian confessed in a discussion with Busy Philipps that she regular sleeps with full glam.

“Oh, all the time,” the reality star said. “Like even if I can’t have glam the next day, I’ll sleep perfectly and maybe I’ll redo my skin, but I try to salvage it for two days.”

Busy Philipps put on her 2007 wedding dress to celebrate reuniting with her Made of Honor co-stars during her talk show Busy Tonight on Wednesday (10Apr19).

The actress revisited the look from her big day while sitting down with Michelle Monaghan and Whitney Cummings, who showed up wearing bridesmaids dresses for the episode.

“I really pulled out my wedding dress from 12 years ago and wore it on my show tonight,” Philipps wrote on Instagram after the show aired. “It basically fit except my stupid upper rib cage which grew after my 2 babies. No one tells you about that s**t. But babies expand your rib cage so, just be aware. This is a PSA (Public Service Announcement).”

Philipps’ stylist Erica Cloud chimed in with a comment on the post, joking: “But we got that zipper up AND the belt was loose so… that’s a WIN.”

During the show, comedian Cummings recalled protecting the actress on set during a particularly rough scene, because she knew the blonde beauty was set to tie the knot the following day.

“We were shooting on an actual swamp,” she recalled. “I spent most of the day holding a net over Busy’s face so that she didn’t get bug bites on her face!”

Busy initially wanted her wedding to be low-key, but production on the film delayed her plans.

“(Husband) Marc (Silverstein) and I were planning a surprise wedding; I didn’t wear a ring and we didn’t anyone we were getting married,” she shared. “We just had invited all of our friends to this surprise birthday party. They thought they were coming to surprise me. But the plan was always that I would show up in this dress… and then we would say, ‘The surprise is on you, we’re getting married right now!’”

She added, “Then I got cast in Made of Honor and how could I say no to a job that’s so good.”

Busy Philipps has hit back at her haters by adding to her tattoo collection with an edgy “f**k ’em” etching.

The 39-year-old actress, who only got her first inking last year (18), went under the needle once again on Saturday, and shared an image of the new design on her Instagram page.

The tattoo, on Busy’s foot, showed a woman on ice skates skating along the words “f**k ’em” in cursive underneath. The Geoff McFetridge illustration was taken from the talk show host’s memoir This Will Only Hurt A Little, which detailed her time in Hollywood, and she explained: “My favourite illustration drawn by @mcfetridge for my book #thiswillonlyhurtalittle (it’s in the A Movie Script Ending chapter).

‘Tattooed beautifully by @dre.dayli in Dallas at @thirdeyegallery last night. And weirdly true to form and as things always tend to be, it really always only hurts a little.”

Tattooist Dre Li added a snap of herself and Busy posing together on her own Instagram page, and captioned it: “Honored to have tattooed the incredible @busyphilipps the other night. As y’all know, she’s a badass and sweetheart. The design is from her book by amazing illustrator @mcfetridge. Thanks for the trust and having me do it, and for the reminder #f**kem Done @thirdeyegallery.”

When one fan praised Busy for having the powerful message tattooed on herself, but asked how she would explain it to her children – Birdie, 10, and five-year-old Cricket – the screen star replied: “I tell them that these are words to live by. Especially as a woman.”

Busy documented the process of getting her first-ever tattoo, the phrase “aced out in her nudes” on her left forearm, on her social media pages last year. Explaining she wasn’t feeling too nervous about being inked, she told her Instagram followers: “I’m not actually nervous. I had two kids with no pain drugs, I’m fine.”

Aly Raisman helping sexual abuse survivors with new Aerie campaign

Olympic gymnast Aly Raisman is hoping to aid survivors of sexual abuse as part of her new clothing line with Aerie.

The athlete is the latest star to join the forces with the brand, which promotes body positivity, and serve as a #AerieReal Role Model – joining the likes of Busy Philipps and Jameela Jamil.

For the venture, Raisman drew on her fight against sexual abuse, a crusade she began after coming forward to reveal she was one of over 100 members of the U.S. gymnastics team assaulted by doctor Larry Nassar. The 24-year-old maintains Nassar began abusing her when she was 15.

Fifteen per cent of proceeds will go towards her organisation Flip the Switch, which she launched as a means of raising awareness surrounding abuse within sport.

The athletic wear collection is designed to encourage “strength, wellness and mindful living”, according to a press release from the label, and includes leggings, sports bras, and T-shirts.

“I’m so grateful and appreciative (to Aerie) because (that 15 per cent) is going to help provide a lot of free training for adults out there,” Raisman tells Fashionista. “When an adult takes the course, they’re better able to understand the warning signs and red flags (of child sexual abuse), and they can save a child from going through that abuse, which is really, really amazing.”

For the star, helping women feel good about their bodies is an important step in lowering the risk of abuse.

“When you’re insecure about your body, it makes you more susceptible for an abuser to be able to groom you and take advantage of you,” she tells the publication.”When you’re confident in yourself and your body, I think you’re able to have more awareness and feel comfortable speaking up if something doesn’t feel right or if someone is making you feel uncomfortable, so to have Aerie spread the message about preventing child sexual abuse and also to be so incredibly body positive makes a big difference.

“I’m just grateful that Aerie is willing to not only have this conversation but to also be very supportive of it.”

Raisman is also thrilled to be part of Aerie’s self-acceptance campaign, revealing it has helped her build confidence.

“I think the fact that Aerie doesn’t retouch anything has been really empowering for me and helped with my confidence,” she says. “When you’re doing a photoshoot and you’re in a bra and underwear, you’re seeing yourself in all different angles, and that created a lot of awareness of how much time I spent worrying about how I look. I’d spend time worrying about really stupid things that don’t matter. As long as I feel healthy, I have energy and I’m happy, that’s all that really matters.”

Busy Philipps’ beauty and self-care regime has evolved since she launched her late-night talk show last year.

The actress has had to meet the demands of hosting Busy Tonight and credits her stylist and new role as an Olay ambassador for allowing her to look flawless while doing it.

“I really believe in trying to keep it as natural as possible…,” she tells The Hollywood Reporter. “I do get a fair amount of facials. Like I really do, but also I think that’s part of when I’m doing a show or working – and this has been most of my career – you’re wearing so much makeup, you’re sitting under lights all day, you’re putting powder on top of powder on top of powder.

“You just need to get that deep clean. You need to get your skin really clean every couple of weeks.”

And the star has learned a few helpful beauty hacks while juggling the show’s hectic schedule.

“My makeup artist Kindra Mann, who has been doing my makeup for years now, bought this little mini refrigerator for our glam room at Busy Tonight, and she keeps these rollers in there,” she adds. “There’s, like, a jade roller and a rose quartz roller, and she’ll, like, roll my face and under my eyes in the morning and it is very refreshing.”

The 39 year old has also benefited from her partnership with Olay, noting the brand’s products are perfect for prepping to appear on camera.

“Skincare truly is something that I do feel very strongly about,” she tells the publication. “I’m a person who has lots of beauty marks and moles. So I know that protecting my skin is important to my health. Then, of course, there’s the superficial reason, which is that I’m an actor and a person in front of the camera, and I don’t want wrinkles. When Olay sent me the product and I started trying it and utilising it in the day-to-day, it was so incredible.”

The blonde beauty has also used the show as an opportunity to share her style preferences and express herself.

“It’s incredibly important to always be true to myself and the essence of who I am on the talk show,” she adds. “It was actually a piece of advice that Stephen Colbert gave me, which was, ‘Don’t ever stop being you, because that is the thing that people have responded to. It’s the thing people want, and your job is to put that into the world in the purest way you can when you do a talk show’.

“I thought that was such amazing advice from him and I really try to implement that in many different ways.”

Lady Gaga went for a milkmaid chic look as she honoured her longtime hairstylist Frederic Aspiras at The Daily Front Row Fashion Los Angeles Awards on Sunday night (17Mar19).

The 32-year-old singer dressed to impress for the occasion in a Rodarte dress, which featured a classic silhouette given a modern edge thanks to being made of black and white leather. The ensemble featured puffy sleeves, a large white bow on the torso and a white triangular ruffle on the long skirt.

Gaga completed her look by styling her platinum locks in retro waves, and went all out with her make-up, wearing bright orange lipstick and a matching eyeshadow, with diamond encrusted fake eyelashes adding the perfect finishing touch.

Sharing a snap of her outfit on her Instagram Stories, Gaga wrote: “On my way to present best hairstylist of the year from The Daily Front Row to my best friend and hair artist for a decade @fredericaspiras.”

As Gaga and Frederic arrived at the event, they posed up a storm on the red carpet – air kissing, holding hands and, at one point, Frederic swept Gaga back into a dip.

The Oscar-winning singer wasn’t the only famous face to make an appearance at the awards.

Kate Hudson looked incredible in a sparkling red dress which showed off her post-baby curves, while Courtney Love also opted for red as she sported a figure-hugging silk number.

Busy Philipps went for a dramatic look in a plunging black shirt and wide-legged silver trousers, finished off with slicked-back hair, while Jaime King sported similarly wet-look locks – the perfect accompaniment to her black trouser suit, teamed with a mint green velvet cummerbund and cute bunny clutch bag.

Cara Santana, Malika Haqq and Shadowhunters actress Katherine McNamara also pulled out all the stops for the occasion.
