Austin Butler had an epic 12-hour audition with Quentin Tarantino to land a part in his film Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

The 27-year-old plays Manson Family cult member Charles ‘Tex’ Watson, one of Charles Manson’s followers who murdered pregnant actress Sharon Tate and four other people in 1969.

Butler described the audition process as “one of the most unique experiences I’ve ever had,” and recalled to WWD that he sent the casting director a tape, not even knowing what role he was auditioning for.

“Normally you go into an audition and you’re there for 20 minutes and you’re gone. I was there for almost 12 hours, and he gave me the job at the end of the day. Which never happens,” Butler said. “We did a handshake deal at the end of the day and he said, ‘Do you want to do it?’ And I said, ‘Yes, you just made my life’ and I gave him a hug. And then I got back on a plane, went straight to the theatre and did a show that night, on a Tuesday.”

The actor, who recently appeared in Jim Jarmusch’s zombie movie The Dead Don’t Die alongside Bill Murray and Adam Driver, recently won the coveted part of playing Elvis Presley in Baz Luhrmann’s upcoming film about the icon and his relationship with his manager, Colonel Tom Parker.

Before news broke that he had beaten competition from fellow actors Harry Styles, Miles Teller and Ansel Elgort for the role of Elvis, Butler told WWD that he had been going backwards and forwards to meetings with Luhrmann for a month.

“We’ve been sort of working together for the last month. I have signed an NDA (non-disclosure agreement), so I can’t talk about it at all, but yeah,” he shared.

Singer Halsey unveiled a controversial new inking on Wednesday (13Feb19) which managed to both delight and confuse her fans.

The Without Me singer, who is currently in Australia with her British musician boyfriend Yungblud, added to her 20-plus tattoo collection with an eye-catching piece inked down the side of her torso of goth rocker Marilyn Manson’s face.

Halsey proudly showed off the tattoo, which is placed on the side of her body, and shows the rocker’s eyes, nose and mouth in black ink, in a photo posted on Instagram

“adelaide today. absolutely obsessed. Manson by mega babe @celiadunne_tattoos”, she captioned the photo which proudly displayed the work done by tattoo artist Celia Dunne.

Fans were quick to react to the new inking, with some praising it while others called Manson “an abuser” and a “nazi”.

“Marilyn Manson has many assault allegations against him on women much less, yet days ago you were wearing a feminist shirt on SNL. It’s beautiful as the art is, how can you represent such a dark man?” read one of the comments on her post.

And when the 24-year-old took to Twitter to announce her new ink, some of her followers mistook the name “Manson” to represent late cult leader and convicted murderer Charles Manson, which she was forced to quickly clarify.

“got manson tatted on my ribs I love Adelaide so much already. Marilyn. not Charles. Sheeesh lol”, she explained.

Meanwhile the Bad At Love hitmaker later posted a video message on Instagram teasing her Sydney fans with the possibility of a surprise show.

The simple video with green text stated: “Sydney… There will be a Valentine’s Day surprise waiting for you from tomorrow…” before directing fans to turn up to venue The Commune, a big warehouse suitable for a pop-up concert on the day of romance.

She concluded the message by saying, “See you there. H xxx”.

Damon Herriman has been cast as Charles Manson in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

The upcoming crime mystery is set to tell the story of a TV actor and his longtime stunt double as they try to find success in the Los Angeles film industry in 1969, with the actor happening to live next door to Sharon Tate, who is later tragically murdered by the followers of cult leader Manson.

While the shoot is already underway, editors at The Wrap have now confirmed that Herriman is to play Manson in the film, joining already established castmembers such as Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, Margot Robbie and Al Pacino.

The Australian actor is best known for his role as Dewey Crowe in FX’s Justified, and has also had minor roles in Breaking Bad and Top of the Lake: China Girl, as well as parts in The Lone Ranger and The Water Diviner.

Empire star Rumer Willis has also been cast as British actress Joanna Pettet, a friend of Tate who had lunch at her house just hours before her murder, while Dreama Walker will portray actress and singer Connie Stevens.

Costa Ronin, Victoria Pedretti, Margaret Qualley and Madisen Beaty have landed parts too.

In addition to directing, Tarantino has written the screenplay and will produce the feature in collaboration with Gravity’s David Heyman and Shannon McIntosh, who previously worked with the 55-year-old on his movies Django Unchained and The Hateful Eight.

The film was originally scheduled for release on 9 August 2019 to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the murders, but is now expected to debut on 26 July.

Lena Dunham was also recently added to the ensemble cast, as well as Kill Bill star Uma Thurman’s daughter, Maya Hawke, and Inglourious Basterds actor Eli Roth’s estranged wife, Lorenza Izzo.
