Marc Jacobs has married his fiancee, Charly Defrancesco.

The 55-year-old fashion designer tied the knot to his longtime love, who he affectionately calls Char, in an intimate ceremony in New York City on Saturday (06Apr19).

The couple, who wed just one day after Defrancesco’s birthday, partied the night away with a star-studded reception at glitzy midtown restaurant, Grill Room.

Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell, Gigi and Bella Hadid, Emily Ratajkowski, fashion editor Katie Grand and singer Rita Ora were among the guests. Celebrity stylist Rachel Zoe was also at the bash, and she later shared videos from the party, which featured a cabaret-style performance from a group of dancers.

Jacobs and Defrancesco wore matching diamond and onyx penguin pins on their big day day, a sweet gift from Prada and Miu Miu design director Fabio Zambernardi.

“Penguins have only one partner and mate for life. A great example of faithfulness and fidelity. So grateful to you and love you so much dear Fabio,” Jacobs explained on Instagram, alongside a snap of him wearing the pin on the trousers of his tux.

The couple got engaged one year ago when the fashion designer surprised his model beau by popping the question during a dinner date at a Chipotle restaurant on Defrancesco’s birthday.

Before proposing, Jacobs organised a flash mob performance set to Prince’s 1986 hit Kiss, then got down on one knee.

The designer explained that the pair, who both have April birthdays, always celebrate at the Mexican fast food outlet, and told WWD, “It’s his (Defrancesco’s) favourite restaurant. We have an annual (tradition). Every year for my birthday we go to Chipotle.”

Marc Jacobs’ fiance Charly Defrancesco is hoping to tie the knot in Chipotle.

The couple got in engaged in a branch of the Mexican fast food chain in April (18), after Jacobs organised a flash mob-inspired dance amongst a group inside the venue. Following the routine, which was performed to the hit song Kiss by Prince, the designer got down on one knee to ask his partner to marry him and later uploaded the footage of the romantic moment to his Instagram account. And now the couple have started to think about what they want from their big day, Defrancesco has revealed he would be more than happy to return to the site of the proposal.

“I know Marc really, really wants it at the Rainbow Room or the Boom Boom Room but I’d be happy getting married at Chipotle,” the candlemaker told People at The Fashion Group International Night of Stars Gala on Thursday (25Oct). However, he is confident that the pair will not get carried away when it comes to wedding planning.

“We don’t want it to become bridezilla or anything like that but we do want to make it festive and a night we can all be with the people we love,” he smiled.

Following the happy news, many questioned why the fashion mogul selected such an unusual venue to pop the question, but Jacobs insisted that though he was hoping to ask the killer question at a more glamorous location, there was a simple explanation behind the choice.

“It’s (Charly’s) favourite restaurant. We have an annual (tradition),” he previously told WWD. “I wanted to take him out for a romantic dinner on his birthday and he was like, ‘No, I want to go to Chipotle.’ So I knew I had to (propose) somewhere where he wouldn’t suspect that I was going to do that.”

Marc Jacobs Beauty has unveiled a new campaign to celebrate Pride 2018.

The New York-based brand’s #GratefulNotHateful initiative went live on social media on Friday (22Jun18), with the intention of extending the occasion beyond Pride’s iconic parade.

“You don’t have to wait for a parade, you can find ways to do that every day of your life, and someone will hear,” the 55-year-old designer explained in a statement.

The campaign is inspired by Jacobs’ everyday outlook, and the hashtag accompanies images and videos that feature him in addition to models and social media stars who are members and supporters of the LGBTQ community.

He can be seen posing in one of the photos, in which he sports powder blue eyeshadow and dramatic black eyeliner.

Jacobs’ make-up artist Glam Boy Jay, models Hunter Schafer, Ariel Nicholson and Tracey Norman – the first African-American transgender model – as well as YouTube star Manny Gutierrez also feature in the campaign.

Like the fashion icon, all wear Marc Jacobs Beauty’s Highliner Gel Eye Crayons showcasing all the colours of the rainbow.

Content is available to view on all official Marc Jacobs Beauty social media accounts, with brand executives also donating $100,000 (£75,00) to LGBTQ-orientated charities such as Sage, Le Refuge and the Ackerman Institute for the Family.

Jacobs recently celebrated his engagement to longtime boyfriend Charly Defrancesco, who popped the question in a Chipotle Mexican restaurant in early April (18).

The entire proposal was filmed and uploaded to the designer’s social media pages, showing every detail of the flash mob-inspired dance.

“And this happened…’Charly Defrancesco will you marry me?’ #flashmobatchipotle #moves,” Jacobs captioned the video. “THANK YOU everyone for making this happen (sic). And to my Ride or Die fiance @chardefrancesco I LOVE YOU (heart emoji).”

John Targon has exited Marc Jacobs’ team after less than three months.

The Baja East co-founder and co-designer was hired as creative director of the contemporary division just two and a half months ago, but the brand doesn’t believe the partnership was beneficial for its future success.

“John Targon is a talented designer and we appreciate the work he has done here. Ultimately working together did not make sense for the brand and we wish him the best,” the Marc Jacobs International said in a statement released to WWD.

The designer officially joined the company on 2 February (18) as the first public hire of new chief executive officer Eric Marechalle, who made the move from Kenzo in July 2017, and it was understood that he would be responsible for overseeing the lower-priced portion of the contemporary division. However, he has not released a statement of his own regarding his departure.

But according to a source, Targon’s departure was a result of a personality clash between him and Jacobs.

“It was a difference in vision. It seemed like it came down to a control thing with Marc, and there wasn’t space for another star,” they told Page Six.

The insider also alleged that the 55-year-old wanted to take “the reigns” in the wake of his recent engagement to fiance Charly Defrancesco, which has left him feeling “superpositive (sic),” and also added that he had parted ways with many of shoe-design team after selling an “underwhelming amount” of footwear last year.

However, a representative from the American label hit back and insisted that: “Anything about Marc and his presence at the company . . . is untrue. He continues to be extremely committed to the company as artistic director.”

Marc Jacobs knew fiance Charly Defrancesco would be caught off guard by his Chipotle proposal.

The American designer proposed to his long-term boyfriend last week (04Apr18) as the pair visited the Mexican restaurant chain to celebrate Charly’s birthday, where Marc orchestrated a flash mob-inspired dance to the hit song Kiss by Price before getting down on one knee.

Though many have questioned why he selected such an unusual venue to pop the question, Marc insisted there’s a simple explanation.

“It’s (Charly’s) favourite restaurant. We have an annual (tradition),” he told WWD. “I wanted to take him out for a romantic dinner on his birthday and he was like, ‘No, I want to go to Chipotle.’ So I knew I had to (propose) somewhere where he wouldn’t suspect that I was going to do that. And then I organised a flash mob to be there, but he didn’t know anything about that. So I was successful about that.”

Marc celebrated his own birthday on Saturday night, after Charly organised a surprise party to commemorate his new fiance’s 55th on 9 April. The event featured an array of celebrity attendees including Naomi Campbell, Lil’ Kim and Sofia Coppola who all descended on subMercer in New York City for the bash.

The fashion icon was also greeted by Debbie Harry, who was wheeled out sitting atop a three-tier birthday cake to lead the Happy Birthday singalong.

Though the original plan was for the Blondie frontwoman to emerge from the cake, alterations eventually had to be made.

“I couldn’t fit inside, it was too small,” she admitted after the party.

The celebration was even more of a surprise for Marc, who had been tricked into believing he was on his way to The Mercer Hotel for a dinner with 10 of Charly’s closest friends.
