Cardi B wanted to wear a dress that made her look like an angel when she announced her pregnancy news.

The rapper is expecting her first child with fiance Offset, and shared her happy news with the world during her performance on Saturday Night Live earlier this month (Apr18).

Cardi looked stunning in a white, custom-made gown by American designer Christian Siriano, who explained both he and the 25-year-old had a particular vision in mind when it came to the outfit she’d wear on the night.

“I’ve been working with her for a while now, and I knew she was pregnant for a long time, but we were kind of like, ‘OK, what are we going to do for this one?’” he said in an interview with Footwear News. “We wanted something angelic and ethereal, and I think that was a great moment for her because she’s not always that way, diplomatically speaking.

“It also felt very real; we fit that the morning of. It was crazy.”

Despite being pregnant, Cardi, real name Belcalis Almanzar, delivered another stunning performance when she took to the Coachella stage on Sunday (15Apr18) wearing a chain depicting the Loony Tunes cartoon character Lola Bunny.

Celebrity jeweller Eliantte Avianne of Avianne & Co. told TMZ that the Bodak Yellow hitmaker came up with the idea two months ago, but only decided to put the order in five days before the gig.

According to the website, the chain and pendant consist of 110 carats of diamonds valued between $350,000 (£247,000) and $400,000 (£282,000).

The New York-born songwriter also commissioned Eliantte in February to create a pendant for her husband-to-be, which featured a diamond-encrusted house complete with graffiti, an oven and two figurines of the Migos member.

Janelle Monae’s stylist has praised the singer for taking risks when it comes to her clothes.

Janelle’s latest music video for song Pynk has got everyone talking this week, thanks to “vagina trousers” worn by Janelle and her dancers. The pink puffy pants, by Dutch designer Duran Lantink, resemble a woman’s most intimate area.

Later in the video, 32-year-old Janelle wears a pair of white Y fronts with the words Sex Cells across the front, and pubic hair sprouting out the side.

Praising Janelle’s bold attitude to fashion, stylist Alexandra Mandelkorn, who worked on the Pynk video, told mic.com: “Instead of creating a character on screen, I now get to work with a person and really help them create their vision or the character that they want.

“Working with Janelle has been such a dream because she does have a clear idea of what she wants and she’s willing to take risks. I get to bring new things to the table, but also she has guidelines of what she likes to stay in. It’s nice to be given some parameters.”

Alexandra has been working with Janelle since November, and has helped to add colour to the Tightrope singer’s usual monochrome wardrobe.

Some of their top looks so far have been the scarlet Christian Siriano suit she wore to the Vanity Fair Oscars Party and the fuchsia Wolk Morais suit the singer and actress wore for the A Wrinkle in Time Los Angeles premiere.

“I think that she is definitely going through a transition of change and those inklings had already begun with this album (Dirty Computer),” Alexandra enthused. “Her people didn’t mention anything specific about her wanting a change, but I can imagine if they saw my work they saw that I am definitely adventurous and I’m not afraid to go big. Knowing her now, she is definitely one who wants to have really avant-garde pieces that other people, I have to say, wouldn’t have the balls to wear.”

Christian Siriano was left with a $50,000 (£35,500) FedEx bill during Oscar season.

The designer launched his career after winning Project Runway in 2008, and has become known for dressing women of all shapes and sizes, famously coming to the rescue of Leslie Jones after she claimed no designers would dress her for her Ghostbusters premiere

His reputation meant that lots of celebrities were keen to wear his designs to the Academy Awards earlier this month (Mar18), and Siriano has now shared exactly how much his popularity has set him back financially.

“It’s so much money to make these custom things and send them around the world. I mean it can be $2,000 (£1,400) to overnight a large box to L.A.,” the 32-year-old explained during an appearance on SiriusXM’s The Michelle Collins Show.

“I want to tell you what my FedEx bill was the month of the Oscars, you really want to know what it is?”

Michelle estimated a total of $58,000 ($41,000), to which Siriano replied: “maybe about $8,000 shy of that.”

The fashion mogul revealed that he delivered “about a hundred pieces” for the actual awards ceremony and the after-parties, which were worn by Hollywood stars including Amy Adams and Whoopi Goldberg.

However, he pointed out that most celebrity stylists “don’t have a budget for shipping,” which is why it was down to him to handle the bill in order to maximise his exposure.

As well as speaking on the radio show, Siriano and his musician husband Brad Walsh also paid a visit to the Bottomless Closet charity in New York, which promotes self-sufficiency among economically disadvantaged women in New York City.

“Today was a great day visiting the amazing women who run @bottomlessclosetnyc!” he wrote in a post on his Instagram page. “They are changing lives for so many. If you are looking for a charity to support this is a great choice!”

Halsey rocked a tiger print outfit to the 2018 iHeartRadio Music Awards on Sunday night (11Mar18).

The singer-songwriter posed up a storm on the red carpet prior to the ceremony held at The Forum in Los Angeles and at one point stopped to plant a kiss on her boyfriend, rapper G-Eazy.

Channelling The Flintstones in her Raisa & Vanessa outfit, Halsey certainly turned heads in a tiger print top and miniskirt with large buckle detail on the front, which she accessorised with Jimmy Choo heels and jewellery from Lorraine Schwartz.

Among the other stars to make a sartorial statement was Cardi B, who sported a dark violet dress from Christian Siriano featuring satin bodice and layered tulle skirt. The Bodak Yellow rapper, who took home Best New Artist at the event, finished the look off with embellished fuchsia satin high heels and chose to wear her signature brunette locks in a chic bob with centre parting.

And designer Christian was thrilled with the final look, taking to Instagram to upload a snap of Cardi.

“Congratulations to my girl @iamcardib on your win tonight! Looking so chic in our Fall2018 tulle party dress! Dance hard tonight and celebrate,” he captioned the photo.

Other celebrities who got dressed up for the night included Rita Ora, who donned a peach-coloured top and pair of jeans from Nina Ricci, and Jenna Dewan Tatum, in a Zuhair Murad gown which she matched with Stella Luna heels and Jennifer Fisher jewellery.

Iggy Azalea flaunted her figure in a black Brian Lichtenberg dress with thigh-high split which she paired with Gianvito Rossi heels, while Bebe Rexha dazzled in a black high-neck dress from August Getty Atelier, Jimmy Choo pumps and bling from Norman Silverman.

Meanwhile, Camila Cabello divided fans with the sheer black top and red, blue and black patterned skirt she sported to the star-studded bash, as did hip-hop star Kehlani, who opted for an oversize belted coat made from shiny gold and cream fabric.

Ashanti, Ashley Greene, DJ Khaled, Chance The Rapper and Hailey Baldwin were also in attendance.

Tess Holliday: ‘Lack of change in attitude towards plus-size women is frustrating’

Tess Holliday finds it “really frustrating” that there are only ever one or two plus-size models in designer runway shows.

The 32-year-old is one of the most famous curvaceous women in the industry, and is doing her utmost to aid a change in the fashion world – to make plus-size part of the “norm”. However, while some designers, such as Christian Siriano and Kate Spade, are embracing a new outlook, others aren’t – and that was plain to see at the recent New York Fashion Week.

When asked by InStyle what watching a runway show filled with size zero models feels like, Tess replied: “When you look at the runways you see one or two plus-size models in some of the mainstream, straight-size designer shows. But we know there’s way more models than just the one or two that we’re seeing. That’s really frustrating…

“When you look at the round ups of New York Fashion Week street style, you tend to see a certain type of person represented. You’re definitely not seeing marginalised bodies and people of colour as much as you wish you were.”

And it’s not just a problem in America, but an issue with designers worldwide. Revealing her thoughts on the under-representation of plus-size women, Tess urged designers and retailers to realise the “buying power” of that market.

“I’m grateful that some of these designers are at least showing 12 and 14, but I think that it’s frustrating because I want it to be available for more plus-size women globally,” she vented. “I want to see more representation, I want to see them doing it in a really thought-provoking way and actually understanding how to dress our bodies. And yes, it is complicated, but we’re a huge percent of the market and we have so much buying power, and we’re just constantly being ignored.”

Christian Siriano has celebrated 10 years in fashion with a photoshoot featuring a diverse group of stars, including Coco Rocha, Selma Blair and Danielle Brooks.

After winning Project Runway in 2008, where guest judge Victoria Beckham praised his designs as a breath of fresh air, Siriano was given a cash injection to get his company going.

Over the last decade, he’s built up a reputation for dressing models and actresses of all shapes and sizes, famously coming to the rescue of Leslie Jones after she claimed no designers would dress her for her Ghostbusters premiere, and is thrilled to be able to cater to so many women.

“It’s so hard to predict what will happen because there are everyday challenges that sometimes overshadow the big, beautiful picture, but today it’s really nice to see all the clothes from over the years together in one place and all these beautiful, different types of women modelling them,” Siriano mused to Elle magazine on the set of this 10-year anniversary shoot.

Along with model Coco and actresses Selma and Danielle, plus-size beauty Candice Huffine and Hawaiian transgender rights activist Janet Mock are also among the women to pose in Siriano’s creations.

“When you first start, you’re like, ‘Oh my God, can I even do this? Can we keep it going? Is it going to continue?'” he recalled of the early days of his label.

He’s quick to point out that he’s never felt like “he’s made it” in the business but did admit to feeling proud of his achievements. And while he hopes to have longevity in the industry, he knows he has a long way to go.

“The hardest part is that all of us – all brands that haven’t been in business for 50 years – we’re kind of held at the same calibre as Dior and Gucci but we’re not,” the 32-year-old stated. “We can’t be because we don’t have the budgets, we haven’t been in business for 50 years. We all hang in the same retailer and we’re scrutinised in the same way, which is quite hard because it’s very different.”

Christian Siriano will always jump at the chance to create a dress for Kelly Clarkson.

The designer outfitted the singer for the Grammy Awards on Sunday night (28Jan18), which came three weeks after he created her black dress for the Golden Globes.

Christian has become one of the most in-demand designers since winning Project Runway in 2008, but he says he’ll never be too busy when it comes to Kelly’s wardrobe needs.

“When Kelly’s stylist, Candice Lambert, sends me a text that says, ‘I need a dress for Kelly,’ the answer is always yes, no matter what we have going on in the studio,” he divulged to The Hollywood Reporter.

Kelly rocked the red carpet at Madison Square Garden in New York in a floor-sweeping black gown, which featured gold brocade detailing and a cape-like finish. She also carried a white rose in support of the Time’s Up movement, to end sexual harassment in the workplace.

The colour theme was directly influenced by the 35-year-old’s latest album, Meaning of Life. And although she missed out to Ed Sheeran for the Best Pop Solo Performance prize, Kelly was a winner in the style stakes.

“After making her Golden Globes gown, we immediately started on Grammy options for her,” Christian shared. “I think what we decided on tonight is cool – rock ‘n’ roll – but also still elegant and chic. Her album theme is black and gold, so we decided to play off of that.

“Kelly is a dream client. She takes my advice, appreciates all of the hard work we put into each dress, and is excited each time to try something new. It’s probably the seventh or eighth gown we have created for Kelly and I can’t wait to do more. I love her music, her spirit and, of course, that incredible voice!”
