Robert De Niro, Oscar Isaac, and Anne Hathaway have signed on to join Cate Blanchett in James Gray’s drama Armageddon Time.

The star-studded cast, which also includes Donald Sutherland, will appear in the filmmaker’s next outing, which he is directing from his own script. Based on his own childhood memories, the coming-of-age story explores friendship and loyalty against the backdrop of an America poised to elect Ronald Reagan as president.

Armageddon Time is very different from Gray’s recent projects, such as Ad Astra and The Lost City of Z, and in an interview with Deadline, he explained this was a deliberate decision.

“Every film you make is different, but I’m trying to do something that is the opposite of the vast, lonely and dark void of the movie I just directed,” Gray said. “I’m anxious to make something that is very much about people, about human emotions and interactions between people, and I want it to be filled with warmth and tenderness. In some sense, yes it’s about my childhood, but an illustration of familial love really on every level.”

He noted the film is influenced by his transition from public school to the private Kew-Forest School, which counts U.S. President Donald Trump as a former student, in the Queens borough of New York in 1980s.

“What happened with me, very simply, I got in big trouble when I was around 11, though the boys are 12 in the movie, and the story is about my movement from the public education that I got into private school and a world of privilege. This film is about what that meant for me and how lucky I was, and how unlucky my friend was and about that break meant for me and what it meant for him,” the director revealed.

Gray hopes to shoot in New York as soon as he can following the Covid-19 pandemic.

A prequel to The Hunger Games movie franchise is in the works.

Suzanne Collins’s popular young adult novel trilogy was adapted into four hugely successful films starring Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth, and Josh Hutcherson between 2012 and 2015.

Officials at Lionsgate, the studio behind the franchise, announced on Tuesday that they would also be making a movie adaptation of Collins’s upcoming prequel novel, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, which is due to be released on 19 May.

“Suzanne’s new book has been worth the wait. It offers everything fans could hope for and expect from The Hunger Games while also breaking new ground and introducing an entirely new canvas of characters,” said Joe Drake, chairman of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, in a statement.

The new novel follows an 18-year-old Coriolanus Snow, who would eventually rise to become the tyrannical ruler of the dystopian nation of Panem, and the central villain of the original Hunger Games series.

Snow, who was portrayed by Donald Sutherland in the franchise, is chosen to be a mentor for 10th annual Hunger Games, for a young girl from District 12, the future home of Lawrence’s heroine Katniss Everdeen.

Collins, who will also serve as an executive producer of the new film, added, “Lionsgate has always been the cinematic home of The Hunger Games, and I’m delighted to be returning to them with this new book.”

The prequel adaptation will serve a reunion for some behind-the-scenes crew. Francis Lawrence – no relation to Jennifer Lawrence – will return to the director’s chair after helming Catching Fire, Mockingjay – Part 1, and Mockingjay – Part 2, while Nina Jacobson, who produced all of the films in the franchise, will produce the latest film, along with her partner Brad Simpson.

Collins will write the film’s treatment and Michael Arndt, who previously helped write Catching Fire, will adapt the screenplay.

Sarah Paulson made a sartorial statement at the 2018 FX All-Star Party on Thursday night (15Mar18).

The actress stepped out to celebrate with her various American Horror Story colleagues at the SVA Theater in New York City, where she posed up a storm on the red carpet in an unusual grey outfit.

Sarah sported a dark grey A-line skirt with matching blazer that was worn over a sheer bralette from Christian Dior, and topped off her look with sparkly hoop earrings from Fallon and black satin Manolo Blahnik high heels with silver buckles.

The 43-year-old also made a point of taking photos with her American Horror Story: Cult co-star Billie Lourd, who wore a shimmery green and black dress for the night.

Billie, 25, topped off her ensemble with opaque tights and emerald green satin platform heels and chose to sweep her hair up into a cute knot.

Evan Peters, who, like Sarah, has appeared in all series of the American Horror Story anthology, attended the event in a grey suit with black and white dotted shirt, while Adina Porter donned a tangerine silk halterneck number and Cheyenne Jackson opted for a casual vibe in jeans and a brown leather jacket.

Meanwhile, the castmembers of FX show Trust also assembled for the bash. The series is set in 1973 and centres on the abduction in Italy of John Paul Getty III, then-heir to Getty Oil, and features Donald Sutherland as J. Paul Getty, and Harris Dickinson as his grandson.

Both actors were in attendance at the bash and were joined by co-star Brendan Fraser, who rocked up in a patterned suit, blue shirt, and cowboy hat.

The Americans co-stars Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys joined in on the action too, with the real-life couple certainly getting dressed up for the party.

Keri showed off her legs in a pair of olive green shorts which she paired with a black blazer and white shirt, while Matthew wore jeans and a navy suit jacket.
