Joan Smalls has been left “overwhelmed” by the support she has received for calling out the fashion industry for not doing enough to support the Black Lives Matter movement.

On Thursday, the Puerto Rico-born model posted a lengthy video on Instagram in which she criticised the fashion industry for simply “jumping on the bandwagon” by supporting the Black Lives Matter movement and urged industry leaders to take action to address the racism and inequality that she has experienced during her modelling career. Smalls said it feeds “the beast of racism and inequality” and called on leaders to give people of colour “a real seat at the table”.

Her fellow models heaped praise on her in the comments, with Kendall Jenner, Imaan Hammam, Lily Aldridge, Duckie Thot, Karen Elson, and Ashley Graham all writing supportive messages. They also spread the word by sharing the video on their Instagram Stories, with Cara Delevingne and British Vogue editor-in-chief Edward Enninful also posting it on their timelines with gushing captions.

Uploading the video on their respective Instagram Stories, Amber Valletta wrote, “Listen up fashion family (praying hands emoji) Take Action,” Alton Mason posted, “I love you Joan! We in this together (sic). Thank you Queen @joansmalls,” while Victoria’s Secret star Jasmine Tookes stated, “Our stories will be heard… Very well said @joansmalls… Couldn’t agree more & have had all of the same experiences.”

Hours later, the 31-year-old, who also pledged to donate half her income for the rest of 2020 towards organisations supporting the Black Lives Matter movement, wrote a message on her own Stories timeline to explain how much the positive reaction has meant to her.

“I’m truly overwhelmed by the support and the love shown. To my friends, to my family and my Gaaaang! I love you more then (sic) you’ll ever know. I was nervous about this and had a lot of sleepless nights, so my heart is def touched,” she commented.

Duckie Thot has called on fashion industry leaders to do more to support the Black Lives Matter protests occurring across the United States.

Following the tragic death of unarmed African-American man George Floyd at the hands of police officers in Minnesota on 25 May, numerous protests were staged across the nation over the weekend in which activists demanded an end to racial prejudice.

Famous faces such as Beyonce, Chrissy Teigen and Halsey have pledged their support by either attending the protests or donating funds to relevant non-profits, and Australian model Duckie, whose family are South Sudanese refugees, took aim at the fashion business in a series of posts on Twitter.

“The fashion industry needs to do more! Yall literally use me to promote your products. Your silence aint it. I want to see the support (sic),” she wrote.

Duckie also criticised Louis Vuitton menswear designer and Off-White founder Virgil Abloh, after he revealed he’d donated $50 ($40) to the Black Lives Matter movement.

“VIRGIL!!! HOW DARE YOU,” the 24-year-old fired. “if y’all are going to run up on anything today, let it be LV and Off-White. he needs to personally feel it.”

Virgil has come under fierce criticism in recent days, and has since shared a lengthy statement on social media explaining his views. The designer has also clarified that he has donated $20,500 to bail funds and other causes.

“I apologize that my comments yesterday appeared as if my main concerns are anything other than full solidarity with the movements against police violence, racism, and inequality,” he penned, before admitting his “anger and rage” over Floyd’s death.

Duckie Thot is a big fan of using cocoa butter and swears it is the key to “glowy” skin.

The Australian model, who is of South Sudanese heritage, has quickly risen up the ranks of the fashion world since launching her career in 2013, having landed work for the likes of Yeezy, Fenty Beauty, Oscar de la Renta, Moschino, and L’Oreal.

Now, Duckie has shared some of her favourite beauty products, and noted Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Body Lotion is at the top of her list.

“After every single shower, I’ll sit there for a good 10 minutes and lather my whole body with cocoa butter,” she said in an interview with New York Magazine’s The Strategist. “It just stays on all day, and your skin looks so glowy. It’s not too thick. Sometimes oil gets on clothes, which is really annoying, but I love the cocoa butter – it just goes on super-nice.”

Duckie went on to explain that she is a big fan of Simple’s Cleansing Facial Wipes for removing make-up, and usually washes her face with Clarins’ Gentle Foaming Cleanser.

“It’s just so thick and creamy, and just a small pump gives you so much product. It’s really gentle on my skin, though I’d say it’s good for all skin types, honestly. It just makes your skin feel really great after you use it. I take it with me everywhere; I use it morning and night,” the 23-year-old said of the brand’s formula.

Elsewhere in the chat, Duckie shared that she can’t get enough of Apple’s AirPods, the Savage x Fenty Padded Eye Mask for when she is travelling, and more unusually, champions fibre supplements from Metamucil.

“I drink the powder with water in the morning; it’s a cleanser, an inside cleanser. I feel like it’s great to have with breakfast, and it just gets you going for the day. It helps me feel more active,” she praised.

Prabal Gurung took fashion editors on a hippie trail for fall 19

Prabal Gurung fused together his Eastern roots with his Western life for his fall/ winter 19 collection.

Recruiting an army of famous models for his New York Fashion Week show on Sunday (10Feb19), including Bella Hadid, Ashley Graham, Winnie Harlow, Duckie Thot, Candice Swanepoel and Taylor Hill, the Nepali-American designer took inspiration from the Hippie trail – the name given to the journey between Europe and South Asia, mainly through Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, India and Nepal from 1957 to 1978 – by members of the hippie subculture.

Stand out looks included Amanda Murphy’s hot pink and red belted smoking jacket, worn over slouchy dark trousers and a yellow and pink swirled top.

Graham modelled a similar print top, this time in yellow and turquoise, which was matched with a padded turquoise jacket, flowing skirt, and shin-high boots.

The colourful hippie pieces gave way to glam eveningwear when Hadid stepped onto the catwalk, wearing a low-cut, floor-sweeping black gown, which had black and white ruffling around the neckline and shoulders.

A shimmering brocade dress complete with pink feathers also brought the glam factor, while multicoloured feathers were utilised on a cute cocktail dress.

In his show notes, which in keeping with the brand’s pledge to be more sustainable, Gurung shared on Instagram rather than printing, he explained how he was influenced by his roots and trips back to Nepal.

Tory Burch also showed in the Big Apple on Sunday, and surprised fashion editors by taking her cue for F/W 19 from Black Mountain College – an experimental college founded in 1933 which closed two decades later.

“I’ve always been obsessed,” she said. “It really formed the trajectory of modern art in America. But what I loved about it was its progressive attitude. It wasn’t about gender or race. It was about sheer creativity and the confluence of all these different artists coming together. It’s where modern thinking should be today.”

The result of her obsession was an eclectic collection of clothes, which featured tailored looks as well as floaty, feminine dresses.

The colour palette was mainly muted, though there were splashes of yellow, red and orange in among the blacks, greys and whites.

On Monday, Carolina Herrera, Proenza Schouler and Anna Sui will all be a part of the catwalk schedule.

Duckie Thot was involved in a car accident shortly before the 2018 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.

The Australian model, who is of South Sudanese heritage, has quickly risen up the ranks of the fashion world since launching her career in 2013, having landed work for the likes of Yeezy, Fenty Beauty, Oscar de la Renta, and Balmain.

Her latest gig saw her walk in the Victoria’s Secret extravaganza in New York City last Thursday (08Nov18), but she has now taken to social media to reflect on a scary incident which took place in the hours prior to the event.

“Firstly, I’d like to apologise for posting a little late – I had to take some time for myself to process the week. 48 hours before the VS fashion show, I got into a car accident on my way to a workout session. Thankfully, I walked away without a scratch,” the 23-year-old wrote in a post on Instagram. “The incident put a few things into perspective for me; no matter how hard you’ve worked for something or how deserving you may feel, it can easily be taken away. I’ve dreamed of walking for @victoriassecret for as long as I can remember – watching women who inspired me year after year, I someday saw myself doing the same thing. God was watching over me in that car and he carried me through Thursday, I couldn’t have done it without Him.”

Duckie went on to comment that she had the “utmost respect” for all of the women she walked alongside at the spectacle, with the show including stars like Adriana Lima, Kendall Jenner, and Gigi Hadid.

In addition, the star thanked British model Leomie Anderson for her words of support, and the entire Victoria’s Secret team.

“It’s been a true honour to do this show, I am so blessed to have had this moment. Lastly, I’d like to thank my guardian angel, my little sister Sarah – every step I took was for you,” she concluded her note.

Candice Swanepoel is walking in the 2018 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.

The supermodel will return to the runway just five months after giving birth to her second son Ariel, whom she welcomed with fiance Hermann Nicoli in June (18).

With many of her fans worried that mothering duties could make her a no-show for the lingerie brand’s annual extravaganza, Candice confirmed she would be returning to the fashion show with a post on her Instagram stories, as reported by editors at Vogue Australia on Monday (15Oct18).

The fashion show is taking place in New York in November, following a two-year hiatus abroad with stints in Shanghai, China and Paris, France. It was also recently confirmed that Victoria’s Secret had tapped Mary Katrantzou to create pieces for the event, taking over from Balmain’s Olivier Rousteing, who was 2017’s designer.

Another model returning to the catwalk is mother-of-two Behati Prinsloo, who took a break from the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show following the birth of her daughters Dusty, two, and Gio, eight months.

“I’m coming back this year. I missed two years, so I’m really excited to walk this year,” she divulged during a recent appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen.

Lais Ribeiro, Martha Hunt, Stella Maxwell, Leomie Anderson and Devon Windsor are also returning, while there will also be plenty of new faces such as Duckie Thot and Winnie Harlow.

“I can’t believe this!!” Winnie exclaimed on Instagram, following her casting. “Thank you for giving me all the energy and kindness in that room! Thank you for allowing me to walk for VICTORIA’S SECRET!”

Other models include Georgia Fowler, Grace Elizabeth and Kelsey Merritt, the first Filipino model to walk in the show.

Anwar Hadid and Presley Gerber have been tapped for Topshop’s new It campaign.

The models, who come from two of fashion’s most powerful families, are joined by Duckie Thot in the images, as well as Dilone, Birgit Kos, Cara Taylor, Adonis Bosso and Sofia Mechetner – eight names that Topshop bosses predict will soon be dominating the style scene.

“We’ve called the campaign Topshop It to introduce our customers to a new kind of expression,” David Hagglund, creative director of Topshop and Topman, told Vogue. “Topshop It will mean different things to different people, but to us it means always experimenting, pushing boundaries, staying true to our roots and taking it to the top.

“We wanted to bring the brands to life. Topshop It is a celebration of what makes us unique. It is eye-catching, full of vibrant colour and has a youthful spirit.”

Showing off the high street retailer’s autumn/ winter 18 offerings, the crew of models pose in jackets, jumpers and other winter warmers.

Anwar, the younger brother of Gigi and Bella Hadid, is seen confidently standing in a pink jumper layered over a black shirt, leather jacket and dark trousers, while Presley, who has the same chiselled features as his model mum Cindy Crawford and sister Kaia Gerber, has been styled in a triple denim look.

Other key items include a floral embroidered leather look skirt, a fluffy coat in the season’s hottest colour, yellow, and a pair of trousers featuring western-style buckles all the way down the legs.

Duckie Thot has opened up about her dedicated skincare regime.

The model has been making waves in the fashion world in the last couple of years having fronted campaigns for Fenty Beauty, Moschino and Oscar de la Renta, on top of numerous runway appearances for luxury brands.

Most recently, she has been announced as one of the models that will walk in the 2018 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show and has also been tapped as L’Oreal Paris’ newest brand ambassador. In order to look and feel good both on and off the catwalk, Duckie ensures she puts plenty of effort into maintaining a flawless complexion.

“Honestly for me skin is life,” the 22-year-old insisted in an interview with InStyle U.S. “Looking after it is the most important thing. I always do a mask at nighttime, a sheet mask or an overnight mask twice a week. I’m all about hydration.”

Adding that “great skin” is the feature which makes her feel most beautiful, the Australian star explained that her career means her face needs a little extra nourishment.

“We work such long hours, sometimes 12 to 16 hours a day, but for your skin to be able to take all that make-up, hydration is key,” she warned. “I know it sounds a little lame, but it’s my best tip, honestly. Drink lots of water.”

Duckie has been particularly busy with shows this fashion month, walking for labels such as Jeremy Scott, Christian Cowan and LaQuan Smith, but Balmain’s spring 2019 collection has been her favourite so far.

“Balmain was pretty good, right? Olivier (Rousteing, designer) came through with that one,” she smiled. “But it’s too hard to say which is most beautiful. I haven’t had time to look through all of them yet.”

However, Duckie has now landed her biggest contract to date – a gig with French beauty giant L’Oreal.

Duckie, 22, follows in the footsteps of celebrities such as Eva Longoria, Camila Cabello, Elle Fanning, Amber Heard and Andie MacDowell in working with L’Oreal.
