Officials at NASA are doing everything they can to ensure Tom Cruise’s new space movie will happen.

News broke earlier this month that the Hollywood movie star would be heading into new intergalactic heights by teaming up with Elon Musk’s aerospace company SpaceX and experts at NASA to become the first person to shoot a movie aboard the International Space Station (ISS).

According to editors at Deadline, Edge of Tomorrow director Doug Liman is helming the as-yet-untitled project, and while plot details are firmly under wraps, NASA administrator James Bridenstine is adamant his team is working hard to get the project underway.

“People ask me about Tom Cruise all the time now,” he said at the delayed SpaceX rocket launch in Florida on Wednesday. “The answer is yes, we would love for Tom Cruise to fly to the International Space Station and make a movie. I’m all for that.

“We’re going to do what we can to make that happen,” Bridenstine added, noting that he was inspired to become a Navy pilot after watching Cruise in the 1986 classic, Top Gun.

“There was a day when I was in elementary school and I saw Top Gun. From that day, I knew I was going to be a Navy pilot. It’s just the way it was. If we can get Tom Cruise to inspire an elementary kid to join the Navy and be a pilot, why can’t we get Tom Cruise to inspire the next Elon Musk?” he asked. “It’s all about the next generation.”

In addition to directing, Liman is also writing the first draft of the screenplay and will produce alongside Cruise.

Doug Liman is to direct Tom Cruise in a movie filmed in space.

Earlier this month, it was reported that the Mission: Impossible actor was teaming up with Elon Musk’s aerospace company SpaceX and officials at America’s National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to make the first-ever feature film to be shot in outer space, and the news was swiftly confirmed by NASA administrator Jim Bridenstine, who revealed it would be filmed on the International Space Station (ISS).

Now, editors at Deadline have revealed that Cruise came up with the idea with his frequent collaborator Liman, who has directed the actor in Edge of Tomorrow and American Made. In addition to directing, Liman is also writing the first draft of the screenplay and will produce alongside Cruise.

However, back in 2018, The Terminator director James Cameron revealed to Empire magazine that he discussed making a movie on the ISS with Cruise many years ago.

“I actually talked to (Cruise) about doing a space film in space, about 15 years ago,” he said. “I said, ‘Tom, you and I, we’ll get two seats on the Soyuz (spacecraft), but somebody’s gotta train us as engineers.’ Tom said, ‘No problem, I’ll train as an engineer.’ We had some ideas for the story, but it was still conceptual.”

Liman and Cruise, who are both pilots, have work on other projects to complete before focusing on the space movie. Liman, who has also directed Mr. & Mrs. Smith and The Bourne Identity, is currently in post-production on Chaos Walking, starring Daisy Ridley and Tom Holland, while Cruise is to reprise his role as Ethan Hunt for two more Mission: Impossible movies, which were due to begin filming before the coronavirus caused the production to shut down. He will also be heading out on a promotional tour for Top Gun: Maverick, which was pushed from summer to December due to the health crisis.

Tom Cruise has reportedly teamed up with SpaceX and NASA to work on the first-ever feature film to be shot in outer space.

The 57-year-old actor is working in partnership with Elon Musk’s aerospace company, along with experts at the American space agency, for the groundbreaking project, according to editors at Deadline.

The movie is in the early stages of development so little details are known. However, Deadline has reported that it will be an action adventure movie, no studio is attached yet, and it won’t be connected to his long-running Mission: Impossible franchise.

Back in 2018, The Terminator director James Cameron revealed that he discussed making a movie in space with Cruise many years ago.

“I actually talked to (Cruise) about doing a space film in space, about 15 years ago,” he told Empire magazine. “I had a contract with the Russians in 2000 to go to the International Space Station and shoot a high-end 3D documentary there. And I thought, ‘S**t, man, we should just make a feature.’ I said, ‘Tom, you and I, we’ll get two seats on the Soyuz (spacecraft), but somebody’s gotta train us as engineers.’ Tom said, ‘No problem, I’ll train as an engineer.’ We had some ideas for the story, but it was still conceptual.”

Cruise is well-known for doing his own stunts, with him famously scaling the Burj Khalifa skyscraper in Dubai in 2010 for Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, and five years later, he hung from the side of a plane during takeoff in Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation.

However, while filming Mission: Impossible – Fallout in 2017, he broke his ankle while jumping from one rooftop to another in London during a scene with co-star Henry Cavill.

Tom Cruise will shoot his space movie aboard the International Space Station (ISS).

On Tuesday, editors at Deadline reported that the Mission: Impossible actor was teaming up with Elon Musk’s aerospace company SpaceX and officials at America’s National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to make the first-ever feature film to be shot in outer space.

NASA confirmed the news later that day, with NASA administrator Jim Bridenstine revealing that the movie, or at least part of it, will be filmed on the ISS.

“NASA is excited to work with @TomCruise on a film aboard the @Space_Station,” Bridenstine tweeted. “We need popular media to inspire a new generation of engineers and scientists to make @NASA’s ambitious plans a reality.”

The ISS is a habitable artificial satellite and research laboratory in low Earth orbit which is a joint project between space agencies in the U.S., Canada, Europe, Russia, and Japan.

Back in 2018, The Terminator director James Cameron revealed to Empire magazine that he discussed making a movie on the ISS with Cruise many years ago.

“I actually talked to (Cruise) about doing a space film in space, about 15 years ago,” he said. “I had a contract with the Russians in 2000 to go to the International Space Station and shoot a high-end 3D documentary there. According to Deadline, the movie will be an action-adventure story and won’t be another instalment in the Mission: Impossible franchise.

Pregnant singer Grimes is a big fan of eating butter-soaked toast for breakfast.

The Canadian star, who is currently expecting her first child with boyfriend Elon Musk, has opened up about her diet and favourite foods in a new video for Harper’s Bazaar.

Noting that she typically stays up most of the night and wakes up about midday, Grimes began by detailing her recipe for an “incredible” snack.

“Lately, I’ve been waking up (and) making this thing called butter toast, which is where I melt like a stick of butter on a plate and put toast in it, so the toast is completely saturated in butter,” she explained. “And then I put a little bit of jam on it and eat that. It’s actually incredible. This butter technique is great.”

While pregnant, Grimes has cut back on caffeine and typically has a Go Cube or cup of matcha to help wake herself up in the morning. The Genesis hitmaker has also been eating more fruits, vegetables, and fortified cereals, even though she’s not much of a fan.

“I basically hate everything besides carbs and fat. I actually dislike vegetables, pointedly. But they’re important to eat. Like, broccoli, what the f**k? it’s actually disgusting, I don’t know how anybody eats that,” the 31-year-old laughed.

Elsewhere in the chat, Grimes shared that she loves to eat Japanese noodles, hot dogs, spaghetti, and dumplings, and never restricts herself.

“I don’t do cheat meals because I don’t believe in dieting. There’s a lot of bad s**t in society about body image and stuff. I try to eat what I want,” she insisted. “But my comfort food is Miss Vickie’s Salt and Vinegar chips. Specifically, binge eating Miss Vickie’s Salt and Vinegar chips while watching TV is one of the best experiences you can have.”

Grimes is pleased her hair is finally growing back after years of colourful dye jobs.

In a new video tutorial for Vogue.com, the Genesis singer shared that she has been using bleach to lighten her locks since the age of 11, and in recent years, has experimented with a rainbow of different dyes. Grimes ended up frying the ends of her hair during her last bleach attempt, however, she’s noticed a change in her tresses since becoming pregnant.

“I’ve had a lot of regrowth,” she said. “I burned my hair off right before I got pregnant, but it’s kind of been solving the situation.”

Grimes, real name Claire Boucher, confirmed that she is expecting her first child last month. Her boyfriend, Elon Musk, is believed to be the father.

And while pregnancy has been beneficial for the health of her hair, it’s been a different case for her skin.

“I don’t know if everyone has this but when I got knocked up my skin turned super red and is just constantly covered in… stuff,” the 31-year-old commented of her struggles with rosacea. “Doing make-up is way harder when you’re pregnant for some reason.”

Elsewhere in the chat, Grimes insisted that she will allow her child to experiment with cosmetics.

“I’ll definitely let my kid use make-up. I’ll definitely let my kid dye their hair,” she smiled.

Grimes and technology entrepreneur Elon have been in a relationship since 2018. He is already a father of five from his previous marriage to Canadian author Justine Wilson, whom he divorced in 2008.
