Adut Akech has shared her excitement over winning the Model of the Year award at The Fashion Awards 2019.

The model, who was born in South Sudan and raised in Adelaide, Australia, is quickly building up a reputation as one to watch in the fashion industry, having walked the runway for the likes of Valentino, Givenchy, Prada, and Versace.

At the British Fashion Council’s annual prizegiving on Monday night, Adut was named Model of the Year, beating out other top models Adesuwa Aighewi, Adwoa Aboah, Kaia Gerber, and Winnie Harlow, and she later took to Instagram to celebrate her achievement.

“2019 MODEL OF THE YEAR,” she wrote. “Meet the South Sudanese refugee who comes from nothing, who become (sic) your 2019 Model of The Year last night. I F**KING DID IT!!!”

Adut was presented her prize by British Vogue editor-in-chief Edward Enninful and Valentino creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli and looked stunning in an emerald green Valentino gown.

During her acceptance speech, she told the audience, “It is important for all of us to remember that someone like me winning this award is a rarity… This is for the young women and men who found representation and validation in my work. I want them to never be afraid of dreaming big like I once did.”

Accordingly, a number of the 19-year-old’s celebrity followers praised her win in the Instagram comments, including Lily Aldridge, Irina Shayk, Elle Macpherson, Karlie Kloss, Shanina Shaik, and Elsa Hosk.

Karen Elson wrote, “You did it. You deserve it! You’re incredible,” Natalia Vodianova gushed, “You worked so hard, baby girl. Congrats,” and Amber Valletta added, “So, so happy for you! Well-deserved beauty.”

While Adut’s mentor Naomi Campbell sweetly commented, “So deserved my baby @adutakech. I Love you.”

Naomi was also feted on the night, taking home the prestigious Fashion Icon accolade.

Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show officially cancelled for 2019

Executives have confirmed the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show has been cancelled for 2019.

After months of speculation about the annual spectacle, bosses at L Brands, the parent company of the U.S lingerie label, announced during a call with financial analysts on Thursday that the event will not happen this year.

“As communicated previously, we think it’s important to evolve the marketing of Victoria’s Secret, that is happening in certain respects now and I think there will be more to come,” explained L Brands’ chief financial officer Stuart Burgdoerfer. “And with that said, we’re figuring out how to advance the positioning of the brand and best communicate that to customers.”

The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show has been held each year since 1995 to showcase the brand’s lingerie and sleepwear offerings.

Top models, including Lily Aldridge, Elsa Hosk, Jasmine Tookes, Karlie Kloss, Taylor Hill, as well as Bella and Gigi Hadid, have participated in recent events. However, the 2018 show, held in New York City, had the lowest TV ratings since its inception – causing leaders at the company to rethink the concept.

In a memo sent to employees in May, Les Wexner, chief executive officer of L Brands, indicated that the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show would no longer be broadcast on network TV.

“In 2019 and beyond, we’re focusing on developing exciting and dynamic content and a new kind of event – delivered to our customers on platforms that she’s glued to … and in ways that will push the boundaries of fashion in the global digital age,” he commented.

Earlier this week, Victoria’s Secret posted another quarter of declining sales. The brand has been hit by the growth of contemporary underwear labels like Third Love, Aerie, and Rihanna’s Savage X Fenty, while company leaders have also been accused of failing to embrace diversity and inclusivity in its marketing imagery and shows.

Marc Jacobs has described Gigi Hadid’s wardrobe malfunction during a recent runway show as the “perfect mishap”.

The designer unveiled his latest line at the Park Avenue Armory as part of New York Fashion Week last Wednesday, with the spring/summer 2020 collection reflecting a diverse array of influences from past decades.

Hadid was first seen in the initial parade sporting a light blue dress and pair of mules, but later walked the runway barefoot, with stylist Katie Grand later revealing that one of the model’s shoes had broken during the presentation.

Responding to Grand’s post, Jacobs praised Hadid for remaining calm under pressure.

“A perfect mishap. Sometimes only when something goes wrong does everything go right. Don’t you think??” he wrote alongside a trio of heart emojis.

While in a separate comment, the designer wrote: “What happened with your improv due to a wardrobe malfunction is a testament to your character. Being true to yourself. Able to rise to any occasion and bring joy regardless of the situation. I feel so grateful that this mistake occurred and that it fell into your arms (or feet as the case may be). It’s not often one has the great pleasure of experiencing an ‘honest’ moment.”

Models Ashley Graham, Lindsey Wixson, and Elsa Hosk also uploaded positive comments.

And in her full description of the moment, Grand noted that while thinking of an alternative for Hadid was stressful at the time, she thinks the model looked more “natural” without the original shoes.

“If you see images from the first passage she has thigh-high silver socks and white leather mules, and since we were at the other end of the armoury there wasn’t much we could do other than either fake a non-broken heel or rip off her socks and shoes and send her out barefoot, which we did, and was all the more natural for it,” she explained. “Gigi and all the people from the show thank you all so much for being so patient, beautiful and inspiring.”

Elsa Hosk shares a lot of her clothes with her boyfriend Tom Daly.

The Swedish star has modelled for brands including Dior, Dolce & Gabbana and H&M, and has been a Victoria’s Secret Angel since 2015, but when she’s not wearing high fashion on catwalks and in campaigns, Hosk borrows from Daly’s wardrobe to find her off-duty look.

“I share a lot of clothes with my boyfriend,” Hosk shared to Vogue.com.au. “I buy him a lot of vintage ’50s Hawaiian shirts that I steal when we are on vacation. I also borrow his suits sometimes and he borrows all my super oversized Balenciaga stuff and cashmere Elder Statesman sweaters. Sometimes I get something for both of us in mind.”

The 30-year-old, who has been dating the creative director of District Vision since 2015, believes times are changing in fashion and men and women are able to wear the same clothes.

“I think rules in fashion are going away,” she added. “Men and women can wear the same clothes – people are most beautiful and comfortable when they wear exactly what they want! It’s so cool when women wear traditional mens clothes and vice versa!”

Hosk sat down to chat with the publication to promote her new sustainable denim line with J Brand, and revealed that she was heavily involved in the design process for the 11-piece capsule collection.

“J Brand gave me full creative control which was so much fun for me,” Hosk gushed. “I was very quick in deciding what I wanted to do so I put together a presentation with sketches and inspiration pictures of around ten styles and they chose the ones that they liked the most… After that we made first samples and had many fittings to get the fit, wash and fabric as close as possible to our shared vision.”

Elsa Hosk designs sustainable denim collection for J Brand

Elsa Hosk has created an 11-piece sustainable denim collection for J Brand.

Following on from influencer Stephanie Shepherd’s successful #LittleBlueJean and #LittleBlackJean lines for the California-based brand last year, the Victoria’s Secret Angel has now unveiled the #LittleJean collection.

Hosk oversaw the entire design process, including naming the garments and styling the accompanying campaign, which was shot by photographer Zoey Grossman.

“(J Brand is) known for making the best jeans with extremely flattering fits, so I just wanted to take some of those sustainable fabrics and push the shapes a bit,” she commented. “Anything we can do to help the environment is so crucial right now, and I’m proud to say that all the blue jeans in this collection use 90 per cent less water in production and the rest of the jeans use upcycled fabrics to cut down on waste. All the styles have recycled thread, hardware, and hangtags.”

Hosk’s line features a leather blazer and five jean styles, with prices ranging from $248 to $1,298 (£199 – £1,044).

Pumice stones, which are a natural resource but produce a large amount of waste that is discarded into the sea, were scrapped in favour of man-made eco stones.

And the model also revealed that she used to design her own jeans growing up in Sweden, as some trends hadn’t arrived in the country yet.

“Ever since I was a kid, I was obsessed with jeans and how they fit. If there was a trend that hadn’t come to Sweden yet, I would get big jeans then re-cut and re-sew them. So, when this project came up with J Brand, it was just so exciting for me. They are such an iconic denim brand (the first designer jeans I bought when I came to the U.S.) who are also working on being sustainable which is so important,” the 30-year-old added.

The collection is available to buy from J Brand’s website and Net-a-Porter, and will arrive in London department store Selfridges on Thursday, before launching globally on 1 August.

Stella Maxwell has stunned fans by having a massage while surrounded by snakes.

The model is one of the busiest names in the fashion industry, having walked in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show last month (Nov18), and recently posed for the likes of Moschino and The Kooples.

It seems Stella has now discovered an unusual way to relax, as she has shared photos on her Instagram page showing her undergoing a snake massage.

“‘Entwine in interspecies love to remember your wild divine nature. Get present. Embrace power and embody pleasure’ – Serpentessa,” the 28-year-old captioned her post. “Thank you Serpentessa for the amazing experience.”

In one snap, Stella is seen holding a number of snakes, while in another, she lies on a massage table with what appears to be two boa constrictors on her.

Serpentessa, also known as Gretchen Brown, is based in New York and has been living with serpents for over 20 years. She holds workshops and performs with snakes too, and according to her website, a snake massage lasts for an hour and 15 minutes and costs $297 (£232).

“On the table, the boa constrictors’ soothing undulations dispel any fears or concerns by toning and stimulating your body’s vagus nerve, releasing endorphins and oxytocin. These feel-good hormones relieve stress, create pleasure, and increase your emotional, physical and cognitive resiliencies in today’s stressful world,” the site states.

Even though many would not be able to bear the thought of having snakes on them during a massage, a number of Stella’s celebrity pals shared positive messages on the post.

Fellow Victoria’s Secret star Elsa Hosk wrote, “Amazingggggg,” while model Ruby Aldridge commented, “My favourite post of yours.”

Lais Ribeiro was apprehensive about wearing high heels during the 2018 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.

The brand held its annual lingerie extravaganza on 8 November (18), featuring supermodels such as Kendall Jenner, sisters Gigi and Bella Hadid, and many Victoria’s Secret veterans including Candice Swanepoel and Adriana Lima, who also announced her retirement during the show.

This was Lais’ eighth time walking in the event, and though she has perfected her model walk in the highest of heels, she was a little nervous on this occasion due to a recent injury.

“I’m a little scared because I broke my toe about a month ago!” she explained to HollywoodLife.com before the show. “And I didn’t wear high heels yet, so we will see on the runway (sic)!”

The event aired on U.S. television on Sunday (02Dec18), and the likes of Shanina Shaik, Winnie Harlow, and Stella Maxwell all tuned in at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show Viewing Party at Spring Studios in New York.

The pack was led by Elsa Hosk, who this year was given the honour of wearing the prestigious Fantasy Bra. And having been selected to wear the garment at last year’s show, Lais was delighted for her fellow model.

“I was just so happy, I didn’t have a chance to tell her anything yet but I’m really happy for her, she worked so hard,” the 28-year-old gushed. “It’s so special, so emotional, so I’ll have a talk with her before she walks!”

Luckily, the Brazilian star was equally enthusiastic about the outfits she had to wear on the night.

“Both of my looks are pretty great,” Lais smiled. “One is black with a cape and wings with stars. The other is like a feather, it’s so light. It gives you (freedom) to blow a kiss, whatever!”

Bella Hadid focused on going to bed early, eating well and maintaining her happiness in the lead up to the 2018 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.

The annual lingerie spectacle screened in the U.S. on Sunday (02Dec18), nearly a month after the actual event took place in New York.

Speaking about Bella’s VS prep, trainer Joe Holder revealed just what goes into making the model look so good.

“During these times (preparing for the VS Fashion Show), she’s focused on going to bed earlier, eating better, etc and maintaining her happiness,” Joe told Hollywood Life. “I think that then shines through and everything else she does training wise.”

As for her actual training, Joe is adamant Bella put in the work for their sessions. Praising her hard work ethic, the fitness guru pushed his model client when they hit the gym together.

“We focus a lot on controlled conditioning (moments of accelerated heart rate) and then targeting the core and posterior chain via complex movement patterns that included the usage of weights,” he said. “Once that was done, it was about a lot of specific targeting of certain areas via controlled isometrics and smaller banded movements.”

On the big night, Bella wowed in an array of barely-there outfits, including a pretty pastel green bra and panties set which she finished off with delicate matching wings.

The 22-year-old was absent from the official Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show viewing party on Sunday, though plenty of her colleagues made it to the New York bash, including Elsa Hosk, Taylor Hill, and Stella Maxwell.

Elsa Hosk shares details of surprise Victoria’s Secret Fantasy Bra reveal

Elsa Hosk has reflected on the moment she learned she’d be wearing the coveted Fantasy Bra at the 2018 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.

The expensive undergarment is the highlight of the annual lingerie extravaganza, and models including Gisele Bundchen, Heidi Klum, and Claudia Schiffer have all previously been given the honour of wearing it.

This year, Elsa was chosen to wear the bejewelled Dream Angels Fantasy Bra, and Victoria’s Secret bosses organised an elaborate set-up in order to reveal the exciting news.

“Well, it was a fake shoot that Victoria’s Secret set up. They basically faked the shoot so they could interrupt it and bring out the bra to surprise me,” the Swedish model recalled to PopSugar U.K. “While I was in the middle of the shoot, they told me, ‘Someone’s here to see you.’ Then, someone came out with a big tray with a box on it, and I just kept thinking, ‘What is going on?’ Because in my mind, I didn’t think I was going to get the bra – I thought, ‘It’s going to someone else.'”

Elsa mistakenly believed that the box contained a cake in celebration of her 30th birthday, which she celebrated on 7 November (18). However, when she realised it was the $1 million bra, she “freaked out”.

“I fell to the floor just shaking and screaming, ‘Oh my God!’ It was all so crazy, and I was so excited,” she laughed.

The piece was designed exclusively for the brand by Atelier Swarovski using over 2,000 diamonds and responsibly sourced topaz. Victoria’s Secret is also offering customers the chance to purchase a similar version of the Fantasy Bra for $250 (£194) at select stores from 29 November.

The 2018 Victoria’s Secret Fashion show took place in New York City on 8 November but is airing in the U.S. on the ABC network on 2 December.
