Chris Hemsworth hopes that the upcoming Marvel blockbusters will bring audiences back to cinemas once the coronavirus pandemic is over.
The 36-year-old, who has played the Norse god Thor since 2011, is gearing up to star in the fourth film, Thor: Love and Thunder, which was due to being production this summer.
However, production on numerous films has been halted due to the pandemic, which has led to the closure of cinemas and the postponement of film releases, with Marvel Cinematic Universe blockbusters such as Black Widow and Eternals getting pushed back.
Hemsworth believes that these superhero movies are the key to reigniting the industry once the cinemas reopen.
“Films (like Marvel) that you can best appreciate on the big screen, those will draw people out of their homes again,” he told the Philadelphia Inquirer.
He also said he understood the critics of Marvel movies, including Oscar-winning director Martin Scorsese, who slammed the big-budget flicks for eradicating the competition.
“I hear those concerns, too. That (the MCU) takes up so much real estate, (and) is there enough room for the other things to exist, the art house films and the smaller films we love and admire equally,” Hemsworth explained.
Right now, the Thor star is enjoying a break from his intense Marvel schedule as he self-isolates in Australia with wife Elsa Pataky and their three children.
“I’ve wanted to just stop being controlled by a schedule,” he said. “So to be home now with the kids full time, and to be able to go ‘Wow, this is truly what’s important.’ It would be a real miss if I didn’t use this opportunity to soak up that time.”

Elsa Pataky couldn’t imagine her life without exercise because it acts as the “glue” that holds everything together.
The 43-year-old actress opened up about her approach to wellbeing and fitness in an interview with InStyle and confessed that her daily workouts are something she couldn’t ever sacrifice.
“I could not imagine my life without exercise. For me it is the glue that holds everything together: my health, my happiness, my relationship,” she said, adding that she’s been interested in exercise since her teens.
“It was then that I started to learn everything I could about training and nutrition,” she explained. “Since then, I have trained consistently, though there have been times when I was less active – such as when I had my children. So I also know how hard it can be to start exercising again after you’ve had a break.”
The Fast and Furious star shares three children with husband Chris Hemsworth – seven-year-old daughter India and six-year-old twin boys Sasha and Tristan – and she said working out with the Thor hunk keeps their marriage alive.
“The best way to stick to training is to do something you love and, if you can, do it with someone you love. My husband Chris and I are always looking for opportunities to keep active together doing things we enjoy,” she shared. “Having three kids makes it a bit more complicated, but we always find a way. It enriches all of our lives.”

Elsa Pataky has no regrets about getting a matching tattoo with her brother-in-law Liam Hemsworth’s now estranged wife Miley Cyrus.
Back in 2016, the Fast & Furious star and the Wrecking Ball singer celebrated their close bond by getting matching tattoos of a simple wave symbol in black ink on their arms.
Elsa, who is married to Liam’s older brother Chris Hemsworth, has insisted she has no regrets over the matching ink, despite Miley and Liam separating last summer after a short-lived marriage.
“I don’t regret any of them, they’re symbols and I love having them and it reminds me of those moments,” the 43-year-old told Vogue Australia.
The Spanish actress and Miley were also joined by friends Kalani Miller and April Munro for the special tattoo session, which was shared on Instagram at the time by Sydney-based artist, Lauren Winzer, who revealed that the simple ink was designed by Australian surfer Kelly Slater, who is dating Kalani.
Elsa didn’t comment further on the breakdown of her brother-in-law’s marriage in the Vogue interview, but has previously shared her thoughts on Liam and Miley’s very public breakup.
While speaking to reporters at an event in November, the mother-of-three said the 30-year-old actor was “taking it well”.
“He’s a strong guy and he deserves the best. I think he deserves much more,” Elsa stated, before adding that Avengers: Endgame star Chris was comforting his younger brother.
“Family is always there to protect you. He and his brother are so close and he’s really been there for him to give him the strength he needs,” she shared.
Liam has moved on from the split and is currently dating model Gabriella Brooks. Miley is now dating Australian musician Cody Simpson.

Chris Hemsworth and his wife Elsa Pataky fast for 16 hours every day.
During an appearance on Spanish talk show El Hormiguero on Tuesday, the Spanish actress was asked about fasting, one of the practices she recommends in her upcoming lifestyle guide STRONG: How to Eat, Move and Live with Strength and Vitality, and she revealed the couple stay fit by going without food for 16 hours each day.
“My husband and I do 16 hours of fasting every day,” she said. “I think it’s the best anti-ageing trick, not taking anything in 16 hours to let your body rest.”
Describing the regime as “very healthy”, the 43-year-old explained that in Australia, where the couple and their three children have lived for years, they eat much earlier than in Spain.
Intermittent fasting has become quite a popular trend in recent years. The 16:8 plan involves fasting for 16 hours and restricting the daily meal intake period to eight hours. For many people, this means not eating anything after dinner and skipping breakfast.
Her comments have sparked backlash on social media, with one user writing, “It’s embarrassing, she is prompting people to have severe nutritional problems. This is anything but healthy,” and another posting, “Elsa Pataky giving health advice. In which university have you studied to recommend fasting and guide on tips to be healthy? Fake news is bad, but fake health news is dangerous.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Pataky shared that she prefers to exercise outdoors and gets in a workout while walking her dogs.
“What I mean is that why not take advantage of going to the beach to take the dogs to, instead of walking, go do leg presses and work the a*s,” she explained. “I do it very much, people look at you, but what else is it? That’s how you work glutes.”

Chris Hemsworth once annoyed his wife Elsa Pataky by using her $400 (£320) La Mer face cream on his sunburn.
The Avengers: Endgame star has opened up about how he is a huge fan of skincare products in an interview with U.S. GQ magazine after stealing his actress wife’s moisturisers on a regular basis.
However, one incident with the luxe beauty staple left Chris in the bad books.
“She uses a lot of La Mer products, which, you know, cost a small fortune, so she’s less than happy when I use that face moisturiser over my whole body,” the 35-year-old told the publication. “I found out the hard way when I used her $400 cream for a sunburn one time. That wasn’t the best option.
“My shoulders were sunburnt one time and I lathered up my shoulders with some La Mer products not realising how expensive they were. She wasn’t really that impressed.”
As well as being an excellent remedy for sunburn, Chris quickly became a fan of La Mer, and now tries to include it in his own skincare regime.
“It smells so delicious, I wanted to eat it,” the Australian hunk joked.
The Men in Black: International star also relies on coconut oil as a much cheaper moisturiser for his sun-ravaged skin.
“Especially when it’s really dry and I’m surfing a lot, spending a lot of time in the sun,” he shared. “It’s better for sunburn or dehydrated skin – and much cheaper – than La Mer.”
The skincare company was started after founder and German-born scientist Dr. Max Huber suffered burns in a lab accident, and he created a remedy – called Creme de La Mer – using fermented sea kelp, minerals and natural ingredients that became the base of the iconic skincare line.

The actress, who plays new MIB recruit Agent M in the spin-off of the hit franchise, embraced the sci-fi theme when she stepped out at the AMC Lincoln Square in New York City for the film’s debut in a silver Rodarte dress with high-low hemline.
Taking to Instagram to share a slideshow of images of her posing on the black carpet, Tessa thanked Rodarte designers Kate and Laura Mulleavy for embracing her vision and supporting her over the years.
“@Rodarte dressed me for my first big premiere years ago & 4 last night’s debut of @mib_international they made this dress special for me. Luv u (sic) so much @kateandlauramulleavy . Endless thanks. & to the dreamy team that got me ready,” the 35-year-old wrote in the caption.

Elsa Pataky can’t go a fortnight without working out.
The Madrid-born actress and wife of Thor star Chris Hemsworth has enjoyed working out since she was a teenager and is still in stunning shape after the birth of three children, thanks to her regular workouts, yoga sessions and stretching. And in an interview with Women’s Health, she revealed that not getting in a sweat session have a negative effect on her energy levels and state of mind.
“I can’t be without training for more than two weeks – I just get really nervous and my energy starts to go down,” Elsa told Women’s Health. “When you start working out and your body’s changing and you’re achieving your goals, that’s such a great thing.
“So, I think that’s the motivation (to exercise) – feeling better and just being happy with you and knowing that you’re healthy,” the 42-year-old continued. “If you know you’re taking care of your body and you’re doing it for a reason, you can put aside the, ‘I can’t do it.'”
While she puts in the time in the gym, Elsa shared that she’s a fan of “exercise-snacking” – pumping out a few squats or doing some stretches to “feel strong” and energised whenever she has a spare moment.
The fitness devotee and Hollywood star Chris, who is well known for his buff body, have now launched Centr, a holistic programme that delivers a curation of the couple’s A-list workouts, recipes and wellness inspiration.
“The reason we created this program (was to bring together) all the people we think are really good in fitness, nutrition and mindfulness,” Elsa smiled. “I think those three things are very important to keep healthy and happy.”
