Gwyneth Paltrow has defended her bizarre walk onstage during the 2019 Emmy Awards, insisting she “looked normal”.

The Oscar winner was on hand to present the award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series at the ceremony on Sunday, and raised eyebrows when she shuffled slowly across the stage.

Paltrow, who was wearing a vintage couture black-and-white Valentino gown from 1963, defended her unusual walk in an interview on the U.S. talk show Today, saying she didn’t understand what the fuss was about.

“I think I looked pretty normal, too. I don’t totally get it,” she replied, as host Savannah Guthrie noted that she thought the 47-year-old actress was “shimmying”.

She went on to explain that her stunning gown, which featured a black sheer top and a white skirt, wasn’t easy to walk around in and offered her limited movement.

“There was no slit in the back of the dress,” Paltrow shared. “So I didn’t want to chop a slit in it.”

Her stylist, Elizabeth Saltzman, made similar comments to The Hollywood Reporter, and revealed she refused to cut a slit in the 56-year-old dress.

“In 1963 there were no back slits! It was not that she was having this fabulous walk, which she already has. In order to keep the dress authentic, I didn’t want to change Mr. Valentino’s design,” she explained.

Paltrow attended the Emmys with her husband Brad Falchuk, 48, who serves as executive producer on the FX show Pose, which was nominated for Outstanding Drama Series, but lost out to Game of Thrones.

Joey King cried when she tried on her Zac Posen dress for the 2019 Emmy Awards.

The 20-year-old actress stunned on the purple carpet in a red strapless old Hollywood gown which was custom-made by the fashion designer, who knew he had made the perfect look when The Act star “started crying when she tried it on.”

“This is her dream dress and we really captured it and that’s when I know that I’ve done a good job,” he told The Hollywood Reporter. “And I really care a great deal about her. I think she’s really a spectacular actress and a wonderful person and girl.

“I think it’s great to have a young woman who wants to look elegant. It’s rarer and rarer and Joey really understands that and it’s cool. It’s going to take her a long way!”

The collaboration marked a “full circle” moment for the duo, as Posen brought King to her first Emmy Awards last year and they decided to work together on her dress when she was nominated for her first-ever Emmy Award for her role in The Act this year.

And the actress knew exactly what she wanted her outfit to look like.

“She wanted a cool bow detail in the back, something strapless, some skin exposed in the back, and something with an architectural quality to it that remained elegant and classic, which is so refreshing to hear from a (then) 19-year-old. She wants fashion!” Posen gushed. “She knows her references and she knows my clothing now really well, so it’s a real designer Hollywood collaboration.”

King’s stylist Jared Eng also told the outlet that she wanted to channel old Hollywood glamour, “like Audrey Hepburn”.

The Kissing Booth star was nominated for the Lead Actress in a Limited Series prize, but lost out to Michelle Williams.

Kendall Jenner is “so happy” to be back to her natural shade, according to her colourist.

The model shocked fans by debuting a bright blonde look when she opened the Burberry spring/summer 2020 show at London Fashion Week last week and she continued to showcase her new hair colour as she walked in the Fendi and Versace shows in Milan, Italy.

However, just two days after the Versace presentation, Kendall was back to her natural brunette, with her hitting the red carpet for her first-ever appearance at the 2019 Emmy Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday.

In an interview with People, her colourist Cassondra Kaeding shared that the 23-year-old enjoyed her brief stint as a blonde but was glad to be back to her natural shade.

“She loved the blonde but was so happy to be back to her natural hair colour. It will be less maintenance then staying blonde because her natural is dark,” Kaeding said, revealing that she dyed Kendall’s hair “half a shade deeper” than her natural dark brown and it will eventually “soften slightly and match her natural hair colour perfectly”.

The hair expert, who doesn’t expect the model to switch back to blonde anytime soon, spent around three-and-a-half hours switching up the reality TV star’s look.

“When going from light to dark its really just a waiting game. Colour needs times to deposit and I wanted to make sure we took every necessary steps to achieve Kendall’s desired hair colour,” the hair expert explained.

Kendall hit the Emmys red carpet wearing a black latex turtleneck bodysuit by Vex underneath a floral, sleeveless Richard Quinn gown and presented the award for Outstanding Reality Series with her half-sister Kim Kardashian.

The 50-year-old actor became the first openly gay black man to win the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series award at the annual ceremony on Sunday.

And the Pose star did not disappoint on the Emmys purple carpet, wearing a Michael Kors custom-made pantsuit, black leather platforms and a black asymmetrical hat exclusively handmade by Stephen Jones.

Porter shared a sneak peek at his outfit on Instagram and told his followers that he was living his truth.

“Y’all just don’t know what this moment means to me. Here’s to celebrating 50 years of life, 30 years of hard work and learning to embrace the JOY! This isn’t for me… It’s for US!” he wrote.

Jennifer Lopez has given her approval to Emilia Clarke, after the star paid homage to her iconic Versace dress at the 71st Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday.

The Game of Thrones star wore a navy Valentino gown with a plunging neckline – much like the revealing tropical green print gown that turned heads when the Love Don’t Cost a Thing star sported it to the 2000 Grammy Awards.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight on the red carpet ahead of the ceremony, Emilia, 32, confirmed she was channeling the 50-year-old singer/actress with her 2019 Emmy Awards look.

“I think that J-Lo in Hustlers is the greatest introduction of a character I have ever seen,” the star gushed. “I heckled in the cinema. I’m English, I don’t do that, but I did! So J.Lo is my inspiration for this evening. I plan on channeling her all night long.”

Jennifer stars as Ramona, a veteran stripper who sets up an initiative to scam wealthy men when the sex industry bottoms out during the financial crisis of the late 2000s, in the movie.

Ahead of the ceremony, Emilia also wrote online: “@emmys2019 WE BE ROLLLLLIN! @jlo just as heads up you have inspired this years lewk (sic).”

And sharing a clip from the interview on social media, the On The Floor singer was full of praise for the actress, writing: “When the Mother of Dragons meets #Ramona. #dead #HustlersMovie I love u @emilia_clarke #daenerys.”

The evening gave the British actress a sweet reunion with her former co-stars, as Game of Thrones scooped the prize for Outstanding Drama Series at the prestigious ceremony.

Taraji P. Henson was originally supposed to wear her Emmy Awards dress to the 2019 Met Gala.

The Empire actress took to the purple carpet at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday wearing a plunging pink Vera Wang dress with a red cape.

However, in an interview with Variety, Henson revealed she had been planning to wear it to the 2019 Met Gala in May, but she had to skip the glitzy event after her friend, director John Singleton, passed away.

“You know this is the dress I was supposed to wear to the Met Gala. John Singleton passed away and I had to go to his funeral. It was the day of the Met. And Vera was so gracious and so beautiful and I love her so much and I promised her, I was like, ‘We will wear this dress,'” she said.

However, the gown had been designed by Wang with the Met Gala’s theme, Camp: Notes on Fashion, in mind, so the ensemble had to undergo some changes to make it more appropriate for the Emmys.

“But we had to un-camp it. It was very campy. The train was three times as long and we had butterflies and embellishments on the train. We had to un-camp it,” the 49-year-old smiled.

The designer posted a picture of Henson rocking the look on her Instagram page and wrote in the caption, “To my dear friend Taraji. You float. You glide. You also alwAys keep it cool (sic). You rock! Love you much. Wang Gang family!”

Henson was just one of many celebrities who worked the pink and red trend at the TV awards show. Mandy Moore wore a Brandon Maxwell gown with a pink off-the-shoulder top and long red skirt, her This Is Us co-star Susan Kelechi Watson opted for a red gown with pink sleeves by Badgley Mischka, Marisa Tomei sported a pink and red dress by Ralph & Russo, and Catherine Zeta-Jones donned a hot pink Georges Hobeika number.

Viola Davis has won praise for swapping her sky-high heels for chic sneakers during the 2019 Emmy Awards.

The Oscar-winning actress walked the purple carpet with her husband Julius Tennon on Sunday night, and looked stunning in a black and white one-shoulder custom Alberta Ferretti gown, which she matched with a pair of black Stuart Weitzman stilettos.

However, eagle-eyed viewers spotted that the 54-year-old had changed out of her heels into a pair of silver platform sneakers when she appeared on stage to present the Emmy for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series, which was collected by Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage.

Fans took to social media to sing the praises of Viola, who were impressed with her decision to rock the casual footwear at such a big event.

“Viola Davis is wearing a red carpet gown and sneakers, because she can,” one wrote on Twitter, while another added: “Viola Davis stole my diamonds and sneakers aesthetic and she’s doing it way better than I do.”

“Viola Davis presented in her gym shoes. I have no choice but to stan even harder,” a third user commented.

And it’s not the first time that Viola, who missed out on the Emmy for Best Lead Actress in a Drama Series to Killing Eve’s Jodie Comer, has gone low-key with her footwear.

The How to Get Away with Murder star changed out of her heels following the Academy Awards in 2017, after scooping the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Fences.

She arrived at the ceremony in a red off-the-shoulder Armani gown, with yet another pair of Stuart Weitzman pumps, but changed into a white suit and gold Stella McCartney platform brogues for the Vanity Fair Oscars party.

Natasha Lyonne and her boyfriend Fred Armisen dress up as famous characters when they attend the Emmy Awards.

The Russian Doll star, who has been dating the Saturday Night Live comedian since 2014, revealed in a new interview with Variety that they pick a theme for their red carpet outfits every year.

Discussing her choice of a vintage off-the-shoulder dress that she wore in 2015 to the prestigious awards ceremony, Lyonne explained that she had to complement her beau’s outfit, as he was sporting an ensemble inspired by Nightmare on Elm Street villain Freddy Krueger.

“It needed to pair well with Fred, my boyfriend, who was nominated. And he wanted to go as Freddy Krueger. The flashes of fringe at the bottom of the dress really felt like something that Freddy Krueger could have destroyed with his claw,” she shared.

Armisen, 52, wore a black tailored suit to the Emmys, along with a white shirt and red and green striped tie in homage to Krueger’s iconic striped sweatshirt. He also wore a fake gloved hand with razors, and cheekily posed in pictures with his hand on Lyonne’s shoulders.

The pair have attended the Emmys in theme ever since, and in 2016, the comedian walked the red carpet impersonating Frankenstein, with the duo arriving at the ceremony in a funeral hearse.

Elsewhere in the interview, the 40-year-old confessed that the chic white Gucci look she wore to the premiere of Orange Is the New Black’s final season last month was something she wanted to be buried in.

“It’s a real dream outfit. I’d be fine to be buried in that!” Lyonne laughed. “It had all the elements: a collar that popped, a white leather blazer with gold buttons and a leather tie. So it really was in the sweet spot of everything I enjoy.”

Christina Hendricks is tired of receiving criticism for wearing prints or bold colours on the red carpet.

The actress, known for her roles on Mad Men and new show Good Girls, always looks glamorous when she steps out for red carpet events and is a favourite among designers such as Zac Posen and Jenny Packham. However, Christina has now shared that she is often called out by fashion critics for choosing unconventional ensembles.

“I’ve fallen in love with dresses with bold prints or unusual finishes and been warned I’ll be criticised,” she told Variety, adding that she is now determined to brush off negative opinions. “I don’t care anymore. We need interesting and unique fashion choices on the red carpet.”

Over the years, Christina has tended to opt for figure-hugging gowns in jewel tones when attending awards ceremonies. But one of her top outfits choices had to be the lilac Posen gown with flowing train and feather trim which she wore to the 2010 Emmy Awards.

“This dress is everything – I felt like Ginger Rogers,” the 43-year-old shared of the eye-catching design. “(It’s) so Old Hollywood, romantic and playful and the construction was flawless. A dress has never fit me better.”

Other memorable looks for Christina include the emerald green Tadashi Shoji gown with plunging neckline and finely pleated sleeves that she sported to the 2008 Emmys as well as the red silk Marchesa dress with gold embellishment which she donned for the 2014 TV event. And although she usually wears colour on the red carpet, she is still a fan of the black lace dress from Christian Siriano that she chose for the 2013 Emmy Awards.

“I’m always encouraged to not wear black on the red carpet, but this dress was perfect,” she smiled. “I wish I could wear it again and again.”
