Salma Hayek decided to star in Marvel’s Eternals after learning Chloe Zhao was attached to direct.

The Frida actress will portray spiritual leader Ajak in the superhero upcoming flick, which follows on from the events of 2019’s Avengers: Endgame.

Explaining why she decided to sign on for a Marvel Studios project in a recent interview for Total Film magazine, Hayek noted that filmmaker Zhao was a big part of the reason.

“The one thing that excited me the most (about Eternals) was the director,” she told the publication. “(Zhao) is amazing. Did you see her first movie? The Rider? I was blown away.”

Hayek is not alone in her respect for the up-and-coming Chinese director, with contemporary western The Rider winning acclaim at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival and landing a mention on former U.S. President Barack Obama’s list of favourite films for 2018.

In addition to getting to work with Zhao and play a superhero in Eternals, the star is also excited to be working alongside an ensemble cast featuring the likes of Richard Madden, Gemma Chan, Kumail Nanjiani, Lauren Ridloff, Brian Tyree Henry, Barry Keoghan, Angelina Jolie, and Kit Harington.

Describing the group as a bunch of “misfits”, Hayek proceeded to joke: “All of them are people you would never have imagined. Except for Angelina (Jolie). Angelina – she was born to be a superhero!”

Eternals is set to be released in February 2021.

Scarlett Johansson’s standalone superhero movie Black Widow will now be released in cinemas in November.

The latest Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) outing, which also stars Florence Pugh, David Harbour, and Rachel Weisz, was originally set to be released on 1 May, but was shelved back in March and delayed indefinitely.

However, on Friday, Disney bosses released an extensive revision of their 2020-2021 schedule and announced Black Widow would open in cinemas on 6 November, replacing Eternals. All other MCU projects in the pipeline have been pushed back, with Eternals now opening on 12 February 2021, followed by Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, a project which has been temporarily halted mid-production, on 7 May 2021, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness on 5 November 2021, and then Thor: Love and Thunder, Black Panther 2, and Captain Marvel 2 in 2022.

Outside of Marvel films, Disney executives have also delayed the release of Jungle Cruise, starring Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt, and Indiana Jones 5, featuring Harrison Ford, by almost a year later than expected. Ryan Reynolds’s action-comedy Free Guy has been pushed back from July to December and Wes Anderson’s The French Dispatch has shifted from July to October.

In a surprising move, they announced sci-fi fantasy film Artemis Fowl, which was due to have a theatrical run from 29 May, will now premiere on Disney+, making it the studio’s first film to skip its cinema release entirely.

Other Disney properties such as The New Mutants, The Woman in the Window, Antlers, and The Personal History of David Copperfield remain without release dates.

However, Disney officials are yet to shift the release of their Pixar animation Soul, with it still being set to open on 19 June, although this is expected to change. They have also kept the release dates for Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story remake on 18 December and Ridley Scott’s The Last Duel on 25 December.

Most big studio releases have vacated their summer slot. One of the last holdouts, the Candyman reboot, was also moved from June to September by MGM/Universal bosses over the weekend, and film experts are now waiting for Warner Bros. officials to shift Christopher Nolan’s Tenet, which is still set for release on 17 July.

Kumail Nanjiani struggled with body dysmorphia after a new diet and exercise regime gave him an entirely new physique.

The Eternals actor stunned the world when he unveiled his new look last year, with fans amazed at how he’d gone from scrawny to buff.

But in a new interview with Men’s Health magazine, Kumail revealed he found it hard to accept his drastically-changed appearance.

“I don’t want to discount people who genuinely have debilitating body issues. I don’t have that. But I did start getting some body dysmorphia,” he said. “I’d look in the mirror and I’d see my abs – and when I looked again, they would fade. I would just see the flaws.”

However, once he went public with his new body, the Silicon Valley star did actually find it helpful to see the reaction from his fans on social media.

“When I saw that reaction was when I was like, ‘Okay, I clearly don’t see what’s actually there,'” the 42-year-old explained. “It’s something I’m trying to be aware of and be better at, because that’s not a good way to be. You want to be easy on yourself.”

Among Kumail’s new workout regime, he had electric shocks to his biceps to get his muscles moving. The actor also tried various ways of eating, such as paleo and fasting, before he began to plateau – at which point he took “all of the lessons I’ve learned from all of them combined”.

Kumail Nanjiani took Bollywood dance lessons to prepare for his role in Marvel’s superhero movie Eternals.

The 42-year-old stars alongside Angelina Jolie, Salma Hayek, Richard Madden and Kit Harington in the upcoming comic book adaptation, which focuses on the Eternals, a group of immortal aliens who have been living on Earth for more than 7,000 years.

In a recent interview on Deadline’s New Hollywood podcast, Kumail revealed that he took Bollywood dance lessons to prepare for a huge scene in the upcoming movie which involves his character, Kingo, strutting his stuff.

“A lot of it takes place in the present day,” he explained. “My character, for instance, is like ‘OK we’re supposed to keep a low profile, no one should know.’ So I become a Bollywood movie star, that’s my secret identity.”

“We’re supposed to keep quiet and I’ve become the biggest Bollywood movie star,” Kumail laughed, before adding that he had to undergo tough training for the Bollywood number alongside more than 50 South Asian dancers.

“I was like, we went from, like, none of us, to so many in one scene!” he joked. “I took months of Bollywood dance classes to prepare for that. It’s really a workout… and you know, there’s like 52 dancers, and 51 of them are professional dancers, and then there’s me!”

The Pakistani-American star hit the headlines last year when he revealed the new ripped physique he achieved through training for the upcoming superhero movie.

Eternals is set to be released in November.

Haaz Sleiman has recalled how everyone cried on the set of new superhero film Eternals after he filmed a gay kiss scene.

The upcoming blockbuster, which focuses on a race of immortal beings created by the Celestials, will not only feature the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s first same-sex kiss, but two of the characters will be in an openly queer relationship.

Sleiman plays a supporting cast member in the movie, who is married to Brian Tyree Henry’s immortal hero Phastos, and the couple have a child together.

He discussed the groundbreaking move by Marvel producers in an interview with NewNowNext and noted he wants audiences to understand his character’s “beautiful and loving” relationship with the first-ever gay superhero.

“It’s a beautiful, very moving kiss. Everyone cried on set. For me, it’s very important to show how loving and beautiful a queer family can be,” the 43-year-old explained. “Brian Tyree Henry is such a tremendous actor and brought so much beauty into this part, and at one point I saw a child in his eyes, and I think it’s important for the world to be reminded that we, in the queer community, were all children at one point.

“We forget that because we’re always depicted as sexual or rebellious; we forget to connect on that human part.”

Eternals, which takes place after the devastating events of last year’s Avengers: Endgame, will see the immortal beings uniting to defend Earth from the Deviants.

The comic book flick, also starring Salma Hayek, Richard Madden, Angelina Jolie, Kumail Nanjiani and Kit Harington, is scheduled to hit cinemas in November.
